don't fall on ur ass with all the backpedalling!!!!
global warming is a hoax guys
riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?
I believe it's not hoax. But I think our effect on it is greatly exaggerated.

what kill'd da mankind? DA ICE CAPS
bro, volcanoes, you know those carbon dioxide/methane releasing monstrous motherfuckers? seriously that Icelandic volcano released more co2 in one eruptions than we have in the last 50 years!
We're responsible for this, silly.
Because a volcano eruption have never happened before in history
This is a chilling thought
"As the sea ice retreats in summer the ocean warms up (to 7C in 2011) and this warms the seabed too. The continental shelves of the Arctic are composed of offshore permafrost, frozen sediment left over from the last ice age. As the water warms the permafrost melts and releases huge quantities of trapped methane, a very powerful greenhouse gas so this will give a big boost to global warming."
Aye that's fine, I didn't wanna fucking live in lowland Scotland anyway I guess I'll have to live on a mountain or some shit now but it'll be worth it if it stops fucking raining so much.

Yeah it's massively exaggerated,

Except for the part where it's not.

How come there is no arctic Noobs who studies this? It's always the Arctic pros and Arctic expert.
I wonder what would happen if this was said by an Arctic Amateur.

so you're telling me only one person is saying this, and i'm supposed to take it as fact?
so you're telling me only one person is saying this, and i'm supposed to take it as fact?
Why do you find that a hard thing to do?
This thread started off well.
Ooh this is exciting, I'm going to get my copies of An Inconvenient Truth and The Day After Tomorrow. I love climate change as a theme.
I believe it's not hoax. But I think our effect on it is greatly exaggerated.
Moreso than our emissions, it's the cutting of forest that's causing global warming.
And media exaggerates and sensationalizes, scientists do not.
The world is heating up, humans or not. We're just speeding up the process tenfold, at a speed which animal life can not adjust.
A result will be less diverse, weaker ecosystems and a less sustainable future for us humans.
If the amount of retardation in this thread is at all representative of the views of the population, then we're all fucked six ways from Sunday.

To be a little bit optimistic, I don't think so. The general population appears concerned enough about what's going on with the planet, but the problem is that not enough people are doing anything about it, and this goes quadruple for the governments. While I do think our effect on this process is somewhat exaggerated (or, at the least, not understood well enough for us to give a definitive statement), we are DEFINITELY accelerating the process to some degree, and we have the technology to start trying to slow things down. Not stop, because that's impossible, but slow down.
I believe it's not hoax. But I think our effect on it is greatly exaggerated.
By who? By media, or by science?
Depending on the media, yes, it could be "exaggerated", the same way everything on the media is exaggerated.
But science? No.
For hundreds of thousands of years, the levels of CO2 in the atmosphere naturally oscillated between about 180 ppm and 280 ppm. (ppm = parts per million) Then, starting at about the time of the Industrial Revolution, CO2 has been steadily climbing up, and is now at about 400 ppm.
CO2 levels suddenly jumped up an entire amplitude right when we started using tons of technology that emits CO2.
But no, we only have a tiny effect on the planet! :downs:
Back in '07 "experts" stated that the polar ice would totally melt on September 22nd 2012.
2 days to go folks.
"Experts" also said that by 2006, there would be no snow.
Now don't get me wrong, I don't doubt Global Warming. Its there, and we are sure as hell are speeding it up, but I seriously doubt its getting that hot that fast.
[t]http://www.natice.noaa.gov/ims/images/sea_ice_only.jpg[/t]
We're losing it at alarming rate, that is true. Its melting away faster then its growing, that is true.
But its not going at the insane rate that everyone thinks it is.
We seriously need to pull up our pants and start looking at Hydrogen and Biofuels, and ways to power more big-cities with Nuclear energy as opposed to coal.
What I'm trying to say out of this rambling:
The sea ice is disappearing, but not at the rate as most would suspect. However, that does not mean we can just waste our time and not start working on a better energy plan.

The problem is, as stated in this article that the problem will essentially hit a point of criticality where the methane in the seabeds are able to thaw and essentially fuck shit up.
On another ocean related note it would be cool to use the methane that would be released could be an excellent source of power for us, but to use it would probably cause a massive release of actual methane into the atmosphere, and even if we successfully got a ton of it, it would still be releasing massive amounts of CO2 during combustion.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Methane_clathrate
Its not us you have to convince though, its the majority of industrialists around the world that don't seem to acknowledge the impact their factories and plants have on a global scale, or just don't care because, you know, money.
This is really alarming, I hope we can switch from fossil fuel power to clean power real soon.
As far as I know, the opinions of the experts are divided into two major camps:
1) We fucked up and caused global warming
2) The long-range periods of global temp rising and falling could swallow all we did and not notice, we didn't fuck it up yet.
Who to believe?
This is really alarming, I hope we can switch from fossil fuel power to clean power real soon.
Hopefully, and then the oil and coal companies would fall apart, I wish brand new nuclear power plants were being build in the cities and mid-sized towns, would be much better than having a disgusting coal plant spewing shit in the air.

No, we need to be using less fuels.

Nuclear power is a nightmare to maintain.
I think this is the actual source
http://archive.org/details/ESWadhams
It's an interview with Peter Wadhams on a radio show.
Considering the eventual drastic water level rise it's a somewhat quieting thought that 90% of the world's nuclear power plants are built in coastal areas.
So uh..
what does this mean? I'm serious here I don't want to be scared into thinking the world will flood by the news, can somebody give it to me straight
I believe it's not hoax. But I think our effect on it is greatly exaggerated.
nobody cares what you believe when the facts directly contradict your beliefs
