• Russia to be kicked out of G8 and have sanctions placed on them unless they pull out of Ukraine.

I wonder how this could affect natural gas exports to Eastern Europe. We're pretty much dependent on Russia when it comes to fuel. Then again, a lot of projects are under way to solve that problem. Oh, Zillamaster already asked that. Still, this is Russia's #1 weapon in foreign politics. They always use it in one way or another.
В стране заводы стоят, а он в колледж собрался.
And remember No Russian.
Here's the biggest issue. Who are we gonna get the huge amounts of Natural Gas from.
The United States (where flagdog says you're from, so what I assume you meant by "we") is the #1 producer of natural gas in the world, slightly ahead of Russia (close enough that we trade places every so often). America would be fine without Russian gas - with reduced supply, our exports would actually be worth more. Europe, however, would be kind of fucked. Norway might be able to help a bit if they ramped up production, but they'll have to buy from Iran or other Middle-East countries instead. Which might be better than buying from Russia anyways.

Here's a map which sums up how important Russian gas is in Europe: [t]http://beyondthe.eu/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/GazpromDependence.gif[/t] Even our electrical grid was changed during the Soviet era, so extra substations and power lines have to be created in order to import energy from Western Europe or Scandinavia. The Baltic States are an energy island.
To all non Putin dong sucking Russians on FP, best of luck to you from here. It's a damn shame that this'll probably happen because Putin's a grubby little man. There's not much I can do or really say as an American, besides wish you luck and keep your spirits up with how supporting FP can be.

Well, unless a big war starts the majority of us is safe. Shit is hitting the fan, but I am still going to univercity, working and drinking with friends. They probably sent contract military to invade Ukraine, so even if, by chance, we have a Russian serving in Russian military, he is most luckily a typical recruit (every male has to server 1 year after he reaches 18) and won't see any action or anything ever.
Are Russians worrying in general/what are they doing at the moment?
Yeah, because I'm sure he would want to work in a factory rather than continue his education.
That is quite a common joke, hence why I made it on Russian: it is culturally specific.
Nothing ever comes out of the G8. It's a political show.
To all non Putin dong sucking Russians on FP
As in, sucking someone else's dong? :v:
Are Russians worrying in general/what are they doing at the moment?
We are currently in process of not giving a fuck. We wanted to start a public not giving a fuck campaigh, but nobody gived a fuck so we didn't. There are some active people that rally against the invasion. There was a ~500 people protest near some Moscow official building and there is a big buzz in the media.

Russian media is basically: We don't have any military power in Ukraine, but we are ready to use it. :v:
Don't think it's gonna happen. G8 is the last platform that's left to speak with the Russians except from ambasssadors.
Yeah but OMON moved them.
Because all kinds of protests are illegal unless goverment agrees that it's not dagerous.
I really really really really really really really wish Putin or Lavrov or ANYBODY would finally say something about this mess the quietness is incredibly alarming
Because all kinds of protests are illegal unless goverment agrees that it's not dagerous.
No, no these protesters had fascist ties.
Unreliable as fuck. Foreign currency here might be subject to... measures, let's put it like that. The Duma spends its free time probing public view of foreign currency and if its flow can be regulated somehow. Best thing is to invest in something more... corporeal, but what.
Caviar.
Because all kinds of protests are illegal unless goverment agrees that it's not dagerous.
According to this article anti-war protesters are being particularly targeted while pro-intervention demonstrators are allowed to continue.
Moscow police Sunday arrested hundreds protesting against military intervention in Ukraine, a rights group said, after President Vladimir Putin won approval from senators to send troops into the crisis-hit country. Ovdinfo, a rights group that tracks arrests at demonstrations, said 352 were detained at two anti-war protests in central Moscow. Police gave a much lower figure of 50 people detained for "attempts to violate public order", the Interfax news agency said. Demonstrators held up peace signs and posters saying "No to war", while some also held Ukrainian flags and ribbons in the national colours of yellow and light blue. .... Authorities meanwhile allowed rallies in several cities in support of Putin's policy on intervention, even closing central Moscow boulevards to traffic to allow a march. Moscow police said 20,000 people took part in a pro-war march as television footage showed people walking with Russian flags as well as yellow-and-black nationalist flags and posters with slogans such as "Bravo Putin!"
I have no idea on how credible that paper is though, but if true it wouldn't really come as a surprise to me.
No, no these protesters had fascist ties.
So obviously invading the country and not allowing a democratic vote to occur is the bet way to counter fascism. Also invading the country and then voting on whether they should invade the country.
If you couldn't identify that sarcasm you have impressed me.
Considering you have been rooting for Russia for the entirety of this I wouldn't be surprised if you denied that the purges ever happened.
No, no these protesters had fascist ties.
They didn't exist. According to state media, that is.
This G8 is gonna be held in Sochi if I remember correctly. hmm....
This G8 is gonna be held in Sochi if I remember correctly. hmm....
That's kind of ironic, Russia being kicked out of G8 while it's being held in Russia, of course if it will happen.
goodluck russian/ukraine lads
Are Russians worrying in general/what are they doing at the moment?
Honestly, i don't really care. Politics are hard and boring, I have a lot of more important problems to worry about. And in case of big war and draft: i'm an artillery lieutenant by the way, so I hope I will stay somewhere far from the hellfire and will just deliver it there instead :v:
Worth noting that if this actually happens then there will be TWO G7s :v:
