The problem I see with the US is that they are so over extended, that any new equipment can become a huge drain on the budget. Logistically, imagine supplying new rifles or equipment to all the bases the US Army and Marines have all around the world. The only chance someone has at duking it out with the US armed forces is going all asymmetrical or unconventional. There was this war game, in which a US General or high ranking officer posing as OPFOR with all the knowledge of US army tactics was able to overcome all the technological gaps between a fictional 3rd world army and the US army. Can't remember the name of said war game right now. For example, he sent messages through letters via motorcycles, swarmed us ships with small boats, etc.

That's why I specified, our navy is so spread out that if they focused all their ships in on region they could overtake us.

US military doctrine is pretty much built upon lightning response times to threats, Chinese supremacy in the East China wouldn't last more than a few days.
