Because not literally everyone in america has a weapon on them at all times????????????? do you actually believe this????????????
Uhm what the hell are you going on about [editline]17th August 2014[/editline]
Shoplifting.
the word robbed makes it seem a whole lot worse
Because muh sweet lil angel. :(
I'd just like to point out to the people rating this agree that both Martin and Brown, regardless of their alleged responsibility in their respective deaths, were in fact peoples' sons. Zimmerman received a fair trial, there's no reason to disrespect the grieving parents.
Peaceful protests wouldn't have turned into a riot if police hadn't started beating protestors up. People aren't animals and they don't do things arbitrarily.
Police are people too and aren't animals and don't do things arbitrarily Unless you're saying police aren't people too
It's the police's job to deal with looters, not private citizens. However, the police have chosen to treat everyone on the streets like a looter. I mean I can tell the difference between someone holding a sign and someone breaking a storefront but apparently the police in ferguson cannot because they've been teargassing and firing rubber bullets at both. Do you still think the police response is just about "looting?"
Yeah, you clearly don't understand how the real world works. ONCE THE FIRST ACT OF VIOLENCE HAPPENS, the police cannot take the chance that the rest of the protest turns violent. They must disperse everyone in order to stop more violence from occuring. You also have crowds of "protesters" walking towards areas where people are shooting LIVE ROUNDS at police and civilians. You want the police to say "well guys, let's let this crowd of innocent people walk right into live bullets."?
Police are people too and aren't animals and don't do things arbitrarily
I agree; they have a very established tradition of treating all black people like potential criminals.
I agree; they have a very established tradition of treating all black people like potential criminals.
"Just like black people have a very established tradition of acting like potential criminals?" See, I can throw out un-validated and very narrow minded lies and rhetoric as well....
I agree; they have a very established tradition of treating all black people like potential criminals.
Yeah right man? Fuck the police, fight the power, one day we'll rise up and overthrow our oppressors, then we finally won't live in a police state where the pigs can push us around. You sound like a fucking conspiracy theorist.
"Just like black people have a very established tradition of acting like potential criminals?" It's a common mistake I see people make. [editline]17th August 2014[/editline]
Yeah right man?
Only superficially; the difference is that the things I'm saying are correct and the things that you're saying are incorrect. Yeah, I see people make this mistake too. Don't worry, you'll grow out of it eventually.
REALLY???? If they don't do things arbitrarily, then what was the reason for looting Shaniqua's hair salon and running out with arm fulls of hair extensions?????? That had sooooo much to do with why they were protesting in the first place right?????
Ha ha, it's funny because black women are all called Shaniqua! What a knee-slapper! Oh ho ho! Oh, Lordy. We do have some laughs.
Ha ha, it's funny because black women are all called Shaniqua! What a knee-slapper! Oh ho ho! Oh, Lordy. We do have some laughs.
Nice to see you notice that, but not the fact that there was no reason to loot a hair salon. But you have no excuse for that do you?
"I could present a valid argument but I won't because I'm right and you're wrong."
are you trying to say black people AREN'T incarcerated at a highly disproportionate rate?
"I could present a valid argument but I won't because I'm right and you're wrong."
The ACLU has a host of studies and resources detailing discrimination in the justice system but I guarantee you that nobody is actually going to read any of that. do u understand my frustration???
Here is a fact sheet from the NAACP on criminal justice disparities. http://www.naacp.org/pages/criminal-justice-fact-sheet Its more about the whole criminal justice system rather than police, but it still shows some important info.
Nice to see you notice that, but not the fact that there was no reason to loot a hair salon. But you have no excuse for that do you?
you mean i noticed you being extremely racist towards the minority you're apparently more than fit to judge worthy of being shot at and gassed? if you're not even going to try and argue that some of the rioters aren't black and you're just going to resort to racial stereotyping, do you even have a leg to stand on? don't try and turn this on me when you're the one being a racist shitbag [editline]17th August[/editline] you should really stick to making jokes about people who are different
how do you rob a store in america when you're unarmed ???
Intimidate the cashier? There's also the fact that many stores just have a policy to give in to robbery demands regardless of weaponry. Especially common with banks, you can just walk in with a note demanding money and they'll give it to you, none of that Hollywood-style screaming and shooting.

You know, sneak something out without being seen doing it. I can't say I've ever seen an incident of shoplifting called "robbery" before.

Or do you just look at the numbers and say "this is definitely discrimination"? http://www.nationalgangcenter.gov/survey-analysis/demographics
The most recent figures provided by law enforcement are 46 percent Hispanic/Latino gang members, 35 percent African-American/black gang members, over 11 percent white gang members, and 7 percent other race/ethnicity of gang members.
You're angry that more blacks are on the receiving end of the criminal justice system, but ignore that they participate more in gang cultures than whites. Now, this is mostly due to socio-economic factors, but all in all, you can't expect police and law enforcement to ignore gangs and the hundreds of deaths they cause each and every month. The bottom line is that you're upset at a system that's just doing it's job and trying to get rid of the crime that causes people to live in fear, instead of being upset at the culture that recruits and drives people INTO these situations.
Now, I haven't been keeping up with the whole thing all along so I may have missed this, but weren't there people saying Brown was shot in the back? Then out comes this story that he was rushing at the officer when he was shot. It seems like the easiest way to verify either side is to check if he was shot in the back, because if he was, then it seems less likely he was attacking the officer at the time of the shooting.

That's just the word of the cop, is it not?
Is there any proof that Brown "rushed" the officer? That's just the word of the cop, is it not?
at least two eyewitnesses
at least two eyewitnesses
There were eyewitnesses claiming the opposite as well. This shit is why it should be mandatory for every police officer to wear a camera. Keeps both parties honest.

I've never said anything about a specific race unless it was brought up by another poster. YOU are the one who went straight to racial stereotype, not me. I never said the riots were all one race either. You are implying that I've said that. You act like you know me, but you don't have a clue.
Is there any proof that Brown "rushed" the officer? That's just the word of the cop, is it not?
As far as I know there's no substantial evidence for either side. This article is the first time I've seen anyone say he "rushed" the officer, but that was my original point - cursory examination should be all it takes to prove whether or not he was an active threat when he was shot. If he was shot in the back, the officer is undeniably in the wrong.
So you don't see a feedback loop here between bad socio economic statuses and a failure of the criminal justice system?
In a way, yes, I do. I see that bad socio economic statuses drive people to crime, which bring in more attention from cops, who only do their jobs by arresting people. It is a vicious cycle that needs to stop. It IS destroying communities. But to say that the justice system is the sole reason for this is full on bull shit. You can't lay the blame at one factor, and you can't expect cops not to do their jobs.

Obviously a riot has to be stopped but have we already forgotten that people like Rodney King were beaten in such a way? We're not really that far from when that happened and apparently attitudes haven't changed much at all either.
We all got a glimpse into your insight with your "Shaniqua" quip.
Based on your own assumptions. I never mentioned race in that post. How could you draw the conclusion that I was speaking of a specific race?
