yes because Shaniqua is a common white person name and not in anyway related to stereotypes about black peoples names.

backpedal to the max.
so are cops always just doing their jobs or are they getting carried away or what?
Obviously a riot has to be stopped but have we already forgotten that people like Rodney King were beaten in such a way? We're not really that far from when that happened and apparently attitudes haven't changed much at all either.
I think you have a few bad apples with cops just like you do any group. But by large they are just people doing their jobs. To say that a cop shouldn't go into a high crime area because the majority of people in that area are of a specific race is to say that justice should not be blind.

But I didn't say that.

That's your opinion.
I really hate Shaniqua's (THIS NAME CHOSEN COMPLETELY AT RANDOM) big lips and all that watermelon she eats. Man, why are they all so violent and stupid?
That's your opinion.
so you were using a stereotypical black name as a metaphorical white person?
Okay, see, I don't really believe you and I feel like you're being highly disingenuous.

and apparently it isn't JUST MY OPINION. Apparently, it's quite a wide opinion that you used here. One you're certainly aware of.
I think you have a few bad apples with cops just like you do any group.
There shouldn't be any "bad apple" cops. That's what screening and training are for. If some idiot who likes to blow kids away manages to get a badge and a gun then that fuck-up is on his entire department. There has to be accountability and the Ferguson PD has shown none.
Do you understand the reasoning behind these numbers though? Or do you just look at the numbers and say "this is definitely discrimination"?

Except if you actually read any of those links, like the one on the death penalty, for example, they would explain to you that arrests and punishments are disproportionate in a way that transcends the racial demographics of crime. Too much to ask I guess.

This conversation is getting really fucking tiring, isn't it? How many times does it have to be pointed out that even if it is just a few bad apple cops doing it, they're protected by the cops as a whole. Brotherhood of blue is a real, real concept, it's a sincere and disgusting form of camaraderie which has cost us our justice systems balance.

So it's MY fault that your mind goes to stereotypes when a simple fictional name is mentioned?
So it's MY fault that your mind goes to stereotypes when a simple fictional name is mentioned?
Everybody move on; he's just trolling at this point.
So it's MY fault that your mind goes to stereotypes when a simple fictional name is mentioned?
no but you are responsible for the words you choose. You choose a word that is commonly, very commonly it seems, used to make a point around a stereotype. Your use of those words is on you, and you are responsible for understanding what the words you used meant.
You can't really be so obtuse to think I'm a racist for hearing a commonly used stereotypical name(Used in jokes, humour, and serious critiques) and thinking of the connected connotation to it and that you're some sort of white knight using shaniqua to refer to white people?
[editline]17th August 2014[/editline]
I mean, you must be blaming me personally for that stereotype even existing at this point, I'm to blame for your use of a word that has specific connotations ruining your otherwise perfect point.
[editline]17th August 2014[/editline]
you're totally innocent in your use of a stereotype, you're right, how could anyone ever think you could be responsible for your own fucking words?!
In my opinion, it changes from a simple shoplifting to a robbery when you use aggression to steal. He confronted the store owner and threatened him when he was confronted for stealing. Totally a different ball park than a kid lifting a pack of gum when someones not looking.
We all got a glimpse into your insight with your "Shaniqua" quip.
Shaniqua is a real name.
Shaniqua is a real name.
yes it is
but it's still used as a stereotype
your point
yes it is

I don't see how it's any worse than using "Bob Smith" to describe white people.
I don't see how it's any worse than using "Bob Smith" to describe white people.
because john smith or bob smith or whitey fucking mcgee aren't as common stereotypes as "Shaniqua" used for comic effect.
It being a real name doesn't change it's weird to use it as a stereotype for arguments sake
it also doesn't change that it's a more common black person name than a white person name and Silence was trying to say he wasn't using it to describe a black person.

Jesus christ, can you drop it? Don't we have more important shit to be talking about?

And all you've done is derail the fuck out of the thread and strawman his point. I know it was meh but he still has a point.
Jesus christ, can you drop it? Don't we have more important shit to be talking about?
People don't really seem to care about the institutionalized racism that's prevalent but sure, let's go back to that because yes, it is more important
This is at the gas station he robbed

maybe I did, my bad, I can accept that
I'd also like to point out though, that ANY attempt to make this conversation about the underlying factors that have been causing some of these things are quickly ignored, made to sound irrelevant under false pretenses or brushed aside. Any talk of instituionalized racism, problems with the police, or general qualms one might have with the horrible system that's in place today is made to sound secondary to the direct actions of impoverished people who are already on the short end of the stick.
Maybe I derailed it, but it felt like no one wanted to talk about anything of value already. You were more quick to attack me for derailment than you were to rerail the conversation with a statement of value, so I'm not the only here guilty of not being on topic, or wanting to be on topic.
In the video it just looks like the person shoplifted. You know, sneak something out without being seen doing it.
I can't say I've ever seen an incident of shoplifting called "robbery" before.
When you grab that clerk by the neck and intimidate him while taking something its robbery. Must of missed that part

Maybe issues go deeper than "some guy who likes to blow away kids"
TBH what Zimmerman did was great
No it was stupid regardless of which narrative you support.
If you think Zimmerman was a brave neighborhood watchman pursuring a criminal thug through the streets of his neighborhood, it wasn't a great move because according to testimony he was ambushed by Martin, who had only his fists. What if he had a gun or a knife? And if Zimmerman was the jumped up wannabe cop who was "sick of these punks" walking down sidewalks in the subdivision where they live then it wasn't a great move for reasons that should be obvious.
The hero worship still surrounding this dumbass is astounding.
Intimidate the cashier? There's also the fact that many stores just have a policy to give in to robbery demands regardless of weaponry. Especially common with banks, you can just walk in with a note demanding money and they'll give it to you, none of that Hollywood-style screaming and shooting.
whats worse is that with a lot of those really low budget stores when the management gets attacked it takes the cops like an hour to respond too
In the video it just looks like the person shoplifted. You know, sneak something out without being seen doing it.

He shoved the person in the store. It's strong arm robbery. It's using force, not a weapon, to steal. Shoplifting is when you pick up and item and leave without paying for it. If you have to assault someone to steal the item then you have committed a more serious crime. You can see on the video the reason he did it is because he was much larger than the other person who tried to stop him.
I see what happened to him as karma, what goes around comes around. He obviously preyed on those smaller than him, people who couldn't fight back. Well, he got preyed on by an even bigger predator.
Wouldn't be surprised at all if the guy did attack the police officer.
Considering he robbed a fucking store and the way he acts pretty threateningly in the video.
He propably thought the cop who shot him was after him because of the crime he had just committed, obviously.
Also, when most people read 'teenager' they propably think of some innocent little kid. This guy's a physically adult male, muscular and well above average in height.
