Gamasutra's Top 10 Games of 2010, or "A List Worth Reading"
So you are telling me, that a very good game gets number 9 and a retarded "Super Meat Boy" gets on the second place?
mass effect 2 has done absolutely nothing new for any genre while super meat boy has actually broken through the generic platformer forumula and presented a commercially successful (this is what's critical here - we're not talking about some cult classic that only a few people like, this thing sold well) alternative to generic shit. No matter what your opinion of meat boy is, it's a fucking accomplishment for what it is.
and the reason smb is so fantastic is that anyone that puts the time into it can quite easily enjoy it despite the huge frustration it gives the gamer; the drive to actually succeed at a specific level and to attain the satisfaction of beating it make it all worth it, and drives the player to go all the way through and beat the whole fuckin' thing.
SMB is great. ME2 is...ehh... okay. I'd be more impressed with ME2 if the story was better. It was garbage in comparison to the first, really.

7: Fallout: New Vegas
"So maybe it needed a little more time, but in a year of big blockbusters, a project with a little subtlety, a richly-realized world and a thoughtful, multilayered story came much appreciated."

Why is Fallout 3 up in 2010?
I disagree with said list.
Sorry but what is Mass Effect 2 doing below Minecraft.
Minecraft is currently a buggy laggy though interesting gem, while mass effect 2 was a work of fucking cinematic genius.
I really don't see how New Vegas comes before Mass Effect 2.
Bad list. Minecraft should not even be on there.

Gamasutra is big on the "innovation" aspect. ME2 is, more or less, ME1+1 - it's not massively different from other games. Minecraft is the only major game like Minecraft.
I hate most of these lists that rank things of the decade.
The top 10 are always the most recent. Some still have the magic of a 'new release' game.
Uh, this is just a "2010" list, not a "2000-2010" list.
oh that makes more sense, disregard my previous statement for this list.
Why is red dead redemption number 1
Actually why the fuck is it even on the list in the first place
Same with Bayonetta
Minecraft is overrated.
Let me fix this statement for you.
Minecraft gets too much attention for the bare minimum of work put into it. We can't really say there's that much content in Minecraft right now and that Notch is a super coder.

Really? Because I see Rock Band 3 and New Vegas are ahead of Minecraft.

Oh yeah big on the innovation aspect that's why starcraft 2 is 5.
SMB doesn't deserve such a high place. I played it for two days and don't want to play it again. It has no storyline and levels are rather unimpressive too.

I didn't say innovation was the only factor.
You guys are really being nitpicky on this list. Just remember, on this list, you're mostly arguing that one game should be higher or lower - I haven't seen anyone bring up a game that isn't on the list that should be. That seems to be a lot better than most other lists are doing.
Sites should stop making lists like this, and rather make "this year's games you should check out" sort of lists, because it's very hard to actually set one game over another if both are good, and people are always going to hate you because they have a different opinion.
I really want to play Red Dead Redemption, but I have no consoles, when's it gonna come to the PC? :ohdear:

At this point, after so much time with no announcement, probably never.
If ME2 is number 9 it's because it's a sequel.
If ME2 is number 9 it's because it's a sequel.
Actually, I was just looking at their list from last year, and Mass Effect might be lower because Dragon Age got first place last year, and they didn't want to show too much favoritism.
technically minecraft hasn't even been released yet, it's still in beta
heh heh

SMB is deserving of its position because it's a kick in the pants to today's gamers who have been coddled and spoon fed the same shit over and over and over

I agree with the games on the list, but not the order of the games.
I agree with everything BrickInHead has said on the last page. I liked ME2, but it wasn't that great. Everyone elevated it to near god status, when in reality it offered nothing new over ME1. It's a fun, solid game, but besides some minor changes I think ME1 is vastly superior in almost every department.
And as gman003-main has said, Gamasutra focuses on more innovative titles. SMB, while being a platformer, has managed to make enormous success in an essentially dead market. They managed to release a tough as nails platformer akin to the early 90s in this generation of games. And all of this was done in a two man team. That's why it's on the list, because it's a huge accomplishment not only for platformers, but for indie games as a whole.
RDR deserves GOTY just for that ending.

I'd say Donkey Kong Country Returns was also a very challenging platformer with great visual style.

Indeed it is. Very fun "reboot" of the DK series. Can't wait to get my hands on a copy. Played it over at a cousin's house during Christmas had had a blast.
How are uh....any of those games better than Mass Effect 2? Lol, New Vegas better than ME2, what a joke.
Minecraft alpha is ranked higher than me2? I mean, I'm all for representing the smaller developers, but me2 is probably the highest overall quality game released this year.

Notch is a preety good coder, and he puts all the work he can into the game.
I dont like the concept of Minecraft though, anyway

What really surprised me is how they captured the almost surreal atmosphere of the SNES ones. The sheer vastness of the background environments makes for great eye candy.
