For anyone else curious about this, Rock Band 3 actually lets you plug a real guitar into it, and play the songs in the game note for note. There's a lot more epic things to do with it but that's the gist of why it definitely deserves a mention.
Im sorry but rdr wasnt the best game of the year. sure it was fun but I think gta4 was better and mass effect 2 should have won. even though I really liked bayonetta and super meat boy.
What really surprised me is how they captured the almost surreal atmosphere of the SNES ones. The sheer vastness of the background environments makes for great eye candy.

Haha, that was awesome. I really loved the jumping between foreground and background elements.
New Vegas is barely worth playing, also ME2 isn't that much different from ME1.

It definitely did reinvent itself. It added a new instrument and the whole pro guitar thing. Of all the items on the list RockBand 3 is the one I agree with the least (well in reality New Vegas is something I agree with less even), but after thinking about it some more I can see why it's on there.

Do you mean a real guitar or just a replica? Can I get my electric guitar that I have right now and play with it? if I can then I will buy it right now.
yeah pretty good games the past year
and uh, i'm glad to see the importance that game lists take in your lives
piss poor list
Cause the sequels were the best games?
Half-Life anyone?

What bugs be is they say the put thought into making it simple or accessible when easy mode moves at a mind-bogglingly dull pace and yet makes you use all 5 buttons. I have trouble handling 4 without getting finger cramps, so I can't imagine what my family members who fail half of Guitar Hero's songs on easy would do.

what
if anyone says this, I immediately think that they haven't played either of them.
Didn't like Civilization V much, spent like £40 on it played it for 2 days and I was bored. Felt like I did everything and the Online wasn't good, it was laggy and slow paced.
As much as I like RDR, I have to disagree. It's far from the best game of the year.
Also, I lol'd at "forming relationships (especially with horses)". Any sort of positive feelings I felt for my steed ended the moment it wandered into a river of its own accord. Anything that stupid deserves to die.
Do you deserve to die then?
SMB being better than Minecraft?
Tell me they can't be serious.
Was I the only one who didn't enjoy Mass Effect? It was cool at the beginning, but gun fights just felt so boring, the space exploration was a joke. You just loaded between different squares of land, most planets you could even explore since most were there for no reason had 2 things on them and even then they were either mini quests that served no purpose or useless data logs.
I read up on ME2 and all the things I liked were replaced or removed and other gameplay mechanics were entirely redone.
Gamasutra seems to think the story counts as "so bad it's good". They like quirky things like that.
Bayonetta's story is not bad. It's BALLS TO THE WALL AWESOME! BALLSOME! Or, rather, TITS TO THE WALL AWESOME! TITSOME!
what

Huh. That's funny.

But I mean come on I must be a fucking retard so who cares right?
Good god what is Civ 5 doing on that list? I bought that game when it came out, several months later I'm still crashing every 3-4 turns and we got an update that fixed the AI.
Good fucking job Sid Meier
I never crashed in Civ 5 :\
It was also one of the very few strategy games I actually enjoyed.

You must not be the norm

if it crashed every 3-4 turns for everyone, it wouldn't be on the list dummy. just because you have problems with it doesn't mean that everyone has the same problems as you
Isnt Red Dead Redemption a remake of Red Dead Revolver? I'm still dissapointed it did not get released on the PC.

Redemption is a "spiritual successor" to Revolver. There's some similar story elements, but I think that's just elements common to the genre, not anything like a true remake or sequel.
Mass Effect 2 is way to low and should arguably be #1. Bayonetta should not be there. Super Meat Boy is a questionable addition and should definitely not be #2.
site that's about game development, not game playing
The top sure doesn't reflect that.

I killed Mr Kelley and he is back in Red Dead Redemption. Shit is messed up.

you obviously haven't looked at the Firaxis forums
I think ME2 deserved 1st or 2nd place. Bayonetta has no place on the list.
Red Dead Redemption should have been 3rd or something. Great game, but not number one. And the ending sucked.
I think Black Ops and Medal of Honor should be on that list.
