As a Canadian, I think it's really cool.
As a Canadian, I think the British monarchy is completely irrelevant to our society and would like to see it removed from our political process and constitution completely.
Americas two-party system consisting of "vote for this person" surely has existed pretty much as long.
Its not a 2 party system by government, its a 2 party system by effect from the people, they only vote for the 2 major parties because no one knows what anyone else does, because our history has dictated that a majority side with one or another for the problems of the decades (such as slavery/civil war). We have many different parties, but, again, none of them matter.
corg is die
Your barking up the wrong tree ZombieDawgs, don't be so ruff on the queen
As an American, I've always found it amusing that many modern European nations still have kings and queens.
Don't worry, we find your government pretty hilarious too.

But campaign financing rules and the 'bipartisan' presidential debates keep the two-party system in place
Can we not turn this into a debate about governmental systems and just continue to mourn the royal corgi?
It's what Monty would have wanted
God damn it, they're on to us
[editline]9th September 2012[/editline]
Not really, couldn'tve been't been the Irish, there wasn't a shooting, car bomb, anything set on fire or even a riot.
Not even a broken beer bottle was found. So it couldn't have been them.
It's what Monty would have wanted
But not what Cider would've wanted at all.

Gooby pls.
shit
do Canadians have to pretend they care
we had to pretend for the royal wedding
Yes, we do. Not doing so is punishable by public execution via Guillotine.
So now the question is what kind of flowers are appropriate for a corgi funeral.
Can we not turn this into a debate about governmental systems and just continue to mourn the royal corgi?
But that's exactly why I made the "monarchies are dumb" comment.
(That, and because they are)
I bet the Germans did this.
Slander!
Personally I think we should all live in republics. Monarchies are archaic, at best. Even "constitutional" monarchies.
The outer form of the state is really not entirely too important. As most modern states are essentially on the same level. Monarchies just have a set up secondary executive might with little to no real powers. Essentially what most presidents in European countries are.

I would much rather be a citizen than a subject none the less.

corgi was really an assassin
dont believe everything the headlines tell you
I bet it was the Irish,
or maybe the immigrants,
or Scotsmen,
or really anyone who has ever been negatively depicted in the Daily Mail ever.
They conspire against us, I tell you!
[sp]So how was my British joke? I tried, after all, it cannot be that bad for and American[/sp]

Could of been the long time revenge of the Catholic Church.
I don't care about having a Queen becuase neither she nor any member of the royal family have any political power, they mainly exist for show.
Besides Jubilees are fun and christmas just wouldn't be christmas without the Queen's speech.

They have political power, they just never exercise them. But even if they don't - why have them when they're such an economic burden?

They're not an economic burden, they bring in a hell of a lot of tourists.

Watch the video I posted above and you'll see just how wrong you are in that.

Theres no way we would ever get rid of them, the people love them economic burden or not. They give people something to look up to, something to go out in the street and support, they bring people together.
Maybe they are a economic burden but we've had a monarch for over 1000 years now and we're still here, the royal family keep out of politics so who cares.

Because you did it yesterday isn't really a logical reason why to do something today.

I don't expect you to understand. Logic hasn't got anything to do with it, they give us something to channel our patriotic feeling into. The same way you americans worship flags and the word 'freedom'.
We like them so they stay.
