Diablo 3 introduces a real life money auction house system for ingame loot and gold

I think this will work best if the auction houses are region-locked based on IP. Would prevent the massive numbers of farmers in Asian countries from hurting the "economy" for the western world, no?
God dammit, now all the rich kids will be the most successful.
My objective is to play the whole game without spending my own money, get the best gear and then start auctioning off all the epic loot I get.
There will be some rich faggots who simply don't want to play the game but get the best gear.
The only problem I see with this is no seller is going to want the in-game gold, so everything will cost real money and if you want to make your character good or competitive you'll have to spend money.
On the other hand you might be able to make some of it back by selling stuff yourself.

In WoW, gold farmers used compromised accounts to sell gold.
Not buyin' the game after this and a few other things.
Interesting concept, good players can make a fortune from this.
I hope Mann Co. can do something like this so I can get rid of those stupid hats, duplicate weapons, and crates for real money.

You can, you can try and put efforts into trading so that you'll get Unusuals and those sell like silver. I never liked the looks of Unusual hats though.
What if the devs camouflaged themselves as players and started selling high-valued items.
I'ld do this :v:
Guys. Us regular gaming folk, realisticly, won't be able to make a lot of money, if it all. The entire market for what's doable in loot will be swamped by other players and (chinese) farmers selling in bulk. Those "epic loot" items that will be worth money will probably be hours of work for a small % to get it.
I forgot to mention this in my post too. Fucking chinese farmers are gonna spam the market with good items at affordable rates, all competing with one another and could seriously fuck up the balance of the market
And with people willing to spend a little bit of cash, could make the game incredibly easy
Oh hey, I was gunna buy Diablo 3. Guess not now.
I think this is a great idea.
I never got into trading simply because hacking was so rampant in D2 that it wasn't worth the risk to me.
With this official Blizzard control over it, the risk seems minimized enough that I might actually get into it.
Plus, I can still play the game normally, even without using auctions. Finally, what do I care how the other guy got his gear? Whether he found it himself or bought it, he has it, that's the important thing.
People might say Blizzard needs to make it harder to get the gear, so farmers can't flood the market. But that means it'd be that much harder for everyone to get anything, just so farmers can't get it. Screw that.
But I guess it's all about your focus. Mine is on grinding for my own gear mostly. I don't think I'll ever have enough gold or spare gear to trade for anything worthwhile. So being able to get my own loot drops is of primary importance.
For those of you who intend to mostly trade, I guess this isn't such great news. It means that you will have a lot more competition in the market and the values will be lower.
wouldn't this, you know, destroy any sort of progression in the game?.
Buys game, buys best items with real money, kills everything.
Do these people think?, at this point why even bother balancing anything.
Brb, quitting job and buying Diablo 3.
I remember the days when everyone used to take the piss out of Entropia Universe....
Now, in one form or another many other games are doing the same :)

Some people actually pay others to powerlevel their WoW characters.

What does that have to do with my game? Whatever you do in your game, or some other guy in his game, has nothing to do with my experience in my game. I don't get why people are upset by this.
They just need to make sure they monitor bots heavily. And I wouldn't be surprised to see Blizzard taking a 25% cut of the sales.

well why even bother having side quests that give the player XP, Gold, and Gear when he can just buy all the things he'll ever need, why even attempt to challenge the player when he can just buy the best gear in the game so nothing will ever pose a threat to him, why even bother laying out an adventure and telling a story if the player can essentially breeze right to the end.
What the fuck is the point of doing any work at all pacing the game if you just give the player the golden key to the armory at the start?.
I might become a chinese farmer if we can do this.
Making money by playing games? Yeayah! That's in my center of interest.
That's the point, make the replayability not a fun-factor but an actual game, people will keep the game alive, blizzard will swim in cash.
Absolutely brilliant marketing, kudos to their staff for finding a new way to win the market.
As long as you can't buy hats I'm cool with it.
Ohgodohgodohgod imma be rich

How dare you shit talk Griswold.
He was a cool scottish brosmith in Diablo 1, I liked him.
Then he becomes a zombie and dies :frown:
Also, modding will be prohibited as said by Blizzard.
Makes sense, people would make overpowered weapon mods and sell it for a lot of money.
I love how they took modding support out for this shit. Even when they expressed great gratitude for the modding community at one of their conferences. Fucking back stabbers.
Get ready for lots of botting.
I'm worried about profiteering business-likes coming and ruining the community that will probably already be hurt by the legal Asian gear farmers. I expect this to turn out like EVE
I'm scared to see how this will be :ohdear:
Stop turning Diablo into WoW. I play Diablo to play Diablo, and played WoW to play WoW. I mean its nice to have an auction house, but thats not Diablo. Trading was a core aspect of the game, where there was no set currency, aside from SoJs, and until HRs came out, but even then those weren't the game specific currency. I liked having to trade my shit for someone else's. Auction houses should stay in WoW and other big mmos like that. They are destroying Diablo... No attributes, no skillpoints, auction houses, pvp arenas instead of clicking next to everyone's names and running out and beating the shit of each other, only 4 people to a game because anymore is too "chaotic"? But, who knows how it might change by the time it releases. :smith:

I understand attributes and skillpoints. But complaining about an AH? If you want to personally trade - do a personal trade. If the thought of in-game commerce pisses you off so much, ignore it. I also don't see the issue in having specific locations for PVP. There is no difference besides balances in the map.
Go have an autistic bellyache over in the D2 Battle.net chat like all the other people who can't get over the fact that change isn't always bad.

Yeah, change isn't always bad, but in this case it is. I could ignore the auction and do player trades, sure, but who is going to want to do that when they can make a few bucks selling their gear? It doesn't piss me off, it just makes me upset that they are adding more and more WoW features into Diablo. The arena isn't such a great change because Diablo PvP has always been about clicking the swords and running out into a big mob of people. There is a huge difference between that and going into a set match against a set amount of people. I love going into duel games and having to fight a different amount of people all the time, or even just the fact that you could be doing something else, and someone decides to hostile you. Sure that sucks for someone new to the game, or someone who doesn't have as good of gear, but it just adds another challenge to the whole thing. Also, I'm not autistic and I don't see how that comes into play at all, but thanks for throwing that insult in there to back up your argument, it really worked!
