damn, I want one of those mos def or gros whatever edition bananas
Damnit, they took away my favorite fruit.
I hope we can find a way to kill the fungus.
The goldfinger banana could be a way its very similar to the Gros Michel but is said to be more resistant, It does not oxidate so the banana does not become black over time. Apparently the main contender for replacing the Cavendish.

We need to freeze some banana seeds (?) somewhere so that we can rebuild the species in the future once the parasites give up

cavendish banana seeds are infertile, so this would be pointless.
But they were perfectly created for us by god, how can some unsightly plague just wipe them out??????
Because 'god' is unhappy with your sins and is taking away your precious fruit.
Also your an ape.

[editline]5th April 2014[/editline]
seriously tho i hope this doesn't affect brazilian crops.
of the 5 most common bananas on brazil, only the nanica(dwarf cavendish) might get affected, the rest aren't part of the cavendish group, i guess if it happens folks will switch to the prata :v:

This makes me sad and I feel like I should keep the last banana I have left in a bag some where in the basement so I can tell my grandchildren that there's an old moldy extinct banana in the basement.

Now we have to remake the banana scale!
But now i need 5 of them to make a bannana milkshake :/
The weight of a Goldfinger is, according to the pdf I provided, 192-220 grams. The average weight of a Cavendish is 125 grams. So I figure you would need less of them!
I cannot wait to taste one!
