Before iOS 2 came about, jailbreaking was the only way to get third party applications that worked and added cool things to the phone. Apple have, and still do, fight jailbreaking hard as they know it is competition against their services. iOS 2 releases, much fanfare over a feature Apple have been suppressing for the past year.

Half the shit that comes on say a HTC phone running Android is added to improve user experience on that phone. You can remove that optionally or just replace it with ease. Uh, okay, first, they fight jailbreaking because of two main things. First, it's exploiting their operatin g system which they obviously want closed. You're [i]supposed[/i] to fix security issues. Second, piracy. Do you know how much people jailbreak so they can pirate apps? A metric fuckton of people do. People constantly see I'm jailbroken and ask if I can get them free apps.

You can do a lot with Apple's restrictions on it, and you can do even more when you remove those restrictions. Android users do it too, it's called rooting. Google & Microsoft both have had their asshole moves, too.
