No, were known for having British tourists go missing or turn up dead in the bush
I thought that from that stupid movie, Wolfcreek.

I think you mean reenactment
I'll probably get showered with dumbs for this, But....
You shouldn't say this guy deserved to die. He probably had very bad metal issues and couldn't help it. He should atleast be able to die without all of this stuff going on and people celebrating that he died!
he couldn't have possibly prevented himself from kidnapping and raping a six year old, a seven year old, and an eight year old?
die

Why don't you.

die
With the way people treat known pedophiles even if they don't commit any acts of rape there is a massive amount of animosity towards them, which makes it less likely people like him will ever seek out help.
Nothing justifies what this man did but maybe things would have turned out differently if he didn't have a reason to fear outing himself as a pedophile.
Isn't the title an oxymoron?

Wolf Creek was a fictionalisation of a real event, very fictionalised, but but British tourists regularly do turn up dead in the desert
This is the more well known one. It's thought that he killed many more people but they haven't found the bodies

I don't think that this whole "wow paedophiles totally deserve to die" thing is going to make any real paedos turn themselves in before they do anything bad - you're basically asking them to do something they know will condemn them to a life of shame, misery, and persecution

we force people to do things by making said things illegal
if only it were legal to murder, nobody would do it, ever :downs:

I'm not saying we should let these things happen, I'm saying that we shouldn't be saying things like "lol what a sick fuck it's a good thing he died" when we're trying to prevent more people like him from cropping up. Would you go to the authorities if you knew they simply would not want to help you, but would be more than willing to lock you away for life, or even just straight-up kill you off the grid? I'd be terrified myself - on the one hand you've got these impulses you think might be wrong, but on the other everybody who tells you that they're wrong is basically out to make your life a living hell, and most definitely will do so if given the chance to.
It's like if Frankenstein's monster just up and says "well I guess you guys are right, I'm just gonna let you kill me" when a mob comes after him armed with torches and pitchforks. It's just not in their best interest to stop and turn themselves in, there's no incentive to quit before they do something they'd regret.
while I'm not condoning his actions, and he is probably a pretty weird guy, the reporter was being pretty a big asshole.
He broke one of the biggest rules of journalism.
A reporter is never allowed to show personal opinion or feelings towards the reported topic. The only exception is if the topic was meant for opinionated writing in the first place. While it's quite obvious that this the man he is doing a story on is an absolute creep, some things you just have to keep to yourself, for the sake of your job.
