Venezuela HATES America and has oil as leverage. They won't give into US demands as easily.
Doesn't the fact that they "hate" America seems like a negative though? I mean lets be honest here, this isn't a team sport, this is an international intelligence scandal. I'm all for Snowden taking up asylum in a country that wouldn't just immediately blackbag him and send him on his way back to America but I feel like he could have done far better than Venezuela with it's history of cracking down on the press there and general antagonistic attitude.

Putting out and securing uncomfortable truths backed by proof would be the biggest damage they could deal to the US. It would even hurt them if they went sensationalist to the degree where people would start to distrust Snowden's leaks (obviously not being able to analyze the primary source in depth). They might want to paint the general situation in their favor just like the US, but as long as Snowden's safe and his data stays available I don't see a practical issue.
I would say to go from Moscow to Vladivostok and then fly straight over the Pacific and avoid Europe altogether. The only issue is that he would be forced to fly over Japan...
http://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1286997&p=41367292&highlight=#post41367292

I think that this NSA stuff is all a cover up. He's really trying to find a country that will respect his girlish figure.
