"If we can't punish you for breaking our laws in other countries, we'll buy your freedom so we can" I thought we abolished slavery
link to a movie on youtube and you'll have done the same thing they're extraditing this guy for
This was a site dedicated to the systemic distribution of links to pirate films and TV shows. It wasn't "Hey dude here's a cool movie check it out" this was the equivalent of aiding and abetting on the scale of thousands.
I can't wait for the book of his, likely written in a similar tone to Howard Marks' Mr Nice. Obviously varying situations, but still likely a shared detest for the US legal system.
Abuse of a system again America?
Unfortunately they aren't abusing the system, they have these legit powers. The treaty needs to be rewritten.
I'm disgusted at how Britain isn't standing up against this, and that the US is doing this. One country's Laws should not overwrite another's.
US government pays the UK a lot of money to do it.
Oh shit, I was drinking at the age of 18, that's illegal in America, do you think I should worry about being extradited?!
Reminds me of the Dimitri Sklyarov case some time ago. Dude found out how to change the setting in Adobe PDFs that disallows printing. He was extradited to the US and faced trial for like, years. My dad still has a "Free Dimitri!" tshirt.
thanks I spat coke all over my monitor and I need a new one now jesus christ what the fuck am I reading
thanks I spat coke all over my monitor and I need a new one now jesus christ what the fuck am I reading
You're going to get extradited for using drugs.
Sad case.
in which case, Google is aiding and abetting hundreds of millions. you can't have this both ways.
Google has a legitimate purpose to index and search the internet in general, a byproduct being the fact that it also indexes such facilitating sites as torrent sites, etc. Additionally, Google has taken steps to at least make it harder for people to abuse its system to get access to illegal content. With their position it is a sheer impossibility to avoid all illegal contents and are doing their damndest to punish it (adsense will be removed on such websites, supporting DMCA takedowns, etc) and promote legal content through prioritized search results. If you want to get into it even deeper, Youtube has a complete system to identify and shoot down infringing content from simple music use to show uploads. tl;dr Google does the best it can, this infringing site actively facilitated

He was just directing people to where they could find it, he was not hosting any of it himself... Its the same as someone asking you where they can find an area they can trespass in, and you get arrested for telling them where they might trespass

If a publication was solely "Here are chopshops, and over on west street you can find drug dealers in the 3rd building and this warehouse by the coast is completely unguarded and full of electronics", do you think it should or would be allowed to remain in publication? If you do, you're a damned fool. The entire purpose of the website was to facilitate illegal infringement. This isn't even TPB, where you can fly your swedish flags and claim freedom of communication. Its sole purpose was to assist in infringing copyright. That's it. Period.

Oh wow guys, this is horrible, maybe if we complain about it on facepunch for long enough, something will change.
Extridition is fucking evil. America is just making random examples of people to show that they want people to think that noone is safe.
I agree, don't let them three dumb rater get you or America down.
God bless America... [editline]25th March 2012[/editline]
Oh wow guys, this is horrible, maybe if we complain about it on facepunch for long enough, something will change.
Especially if we don't ever discuss it outside Facepunch...
Guys, it's not like the U.S came in and took him and forced the U.K to extradite him. It says there right there in the article that "A U.K judge" ruled him to be extradited. Don't blame it all on us, even if it is kind of stupid.
