Alien life certain to exist on Earth-like planet, scientists say

If life exists on that planet, then we should invade it. I can't wait for being a space invader.
Tell my pops i'm out, earthbound with the crew
he said buttafly, may the boogie be with you
all these thread's about an earth-like planet are about to make my head implode
Wouldn't it be crazy if everything there evolved to look like life on Earth?
It would pretty much confirm that life here was spread by a comet.
Uh, no it wouldn't.
Are you saying that if we found anything from this

to this

it would confirm panspermia?

If we found them and their DNA was as similar as the DNA of all life on earth, yeah.
I'm not disagreeing that less time passes aboard the vehicle, I'm just pointing out that one light year is how long it takes a light-speed vehicle from an outside perspective to move that distance.
As it stands you can turn on a light one light year away and then sit there for a year and see it arrive.
The way you had it laid out you'd turn on the light one light year away and then wait significantly longer than a light year.
Likewise if you were to launch a vehicle at light speed one light year away, it would take one year to reach you.
That goes against everything I have ever heard about light speed travel. Also remember a vehicle can not travel at the speed of light, only 99.9%.
Millions of galaxies composed of billions of stars, with even more planets orbiting them. Extraterrestrial life is very likely to exist on some of them.
If we found them and their DNA was as similar as the DNA of all life on earth, yeah.
It wouldn't confirm it, but it'd be one hell of a coincidence if it wasn't true.
Millions of galaxies composed of billions of stars, with even more planets orbiting them. Extraterrestrial life is very likely to exist on some of them.
It's Guaranteed to, Even things you wouldn't normally think as 'alive' tend to migrate towards one another and form structures... like Beads for a ridiculous example, So why wouldn't other elements on some of the trillions of planets that exist in the universe
And to the beads reference, There's a video out there that shows a bunch of random beads, some one shade, others another shade, tossed in a container and then vibrated, and they eventually formed patterns with one another, sticking to their own shades
I suppose elements and liquid just... do that, and eventually get more and more complex over Millions of years
Humanity will never leave the solar system.
Deal.

NO.

Our probes already have. Check.
Our probes already have. Check.
Probes are not people AFAIK
Probes are not people AFAIK
i dont think you are very smart my friend
Probes are not people AFAIK
Psht. It can still happen in principle.
If we sort out all our other problems first, it could eventually happen.
For now I'm perfectly content with exploring the solar system and beaming radio signals to other stars.
Our probes already have. Check.
a 1,500 pound probe traveling at 70,000 Miles per hour, which is 52,000 Mph faster than any human has ever been, and most of its speed came from sling shotting around planets, even then it took 30 fucking years. 30 Years to go the distance Light from Earth would take 5.5 Hours to reach, and this planet is 20 Light YEARS
it isn't going to happen. Ever. And the Oh Super Secret technology we haven't discovered yet isn't a valid argument, it's the law of damn physics that stops that argument in its tracks
Even if you built a ship capable of the speed of light, those very small hydrogen atoms that are scattered throughout space you'd collide with would be like .50 cal bullets

Yeah? And?
It wasn't even specifically designed to leave the solar system. We could do much better with today's technology, but even then there wouldn't be much point considering how long it'd take.
Just leave it until technology progresses.

yeah technology won't improve or anything nothing will ever change laws of physics can't change them nuh uh
It's obviously planet Irk. Earth will be invaded by the Irkin Armada! (rate informative if you got the reference)
Listen I highly doubt it'll happen in our lifetime or even our grandchildren's lifetime, but I think it's perfectly possible.
We just have to be prepared to wait a lot (as will the people in the ship eventually)

Well you can't do that anyway because nothing with mass can travel at the speed of light
And yet you still think its possible to just Hop Skip Tra la la your way to that planet in a few generations time? Never in a Million years. Or at the very least 70,000ish at Voyager's speed
Even if we launched when we were neanderthals we'd still not be there

if by "Hope Skip Tra la la" you mean "inertial confinement fusion rocket" then yeah
How do we know the organisms on the planet will be edible? Will our crops grow on it?
They'll likely be edible, but it's a question of whether our body can take the different type of nutrients in it, I'd imagine there are different ones anyway
What if this planet just found out that our planet had life, And they had the exact same discussion.
Also, what if there's dinosaurs on this planet.

facepunch too?
yeah that would be nice
bud369 flaming bud369
mods banning eachother
garry suing garry
so much fun

I think we may have noticed a notable civilization, they would have to have shit like...satellites so maybe we would have seen those.

Seen satellites? On an exoplanet? From our solar system?
surely you jest

I guess it is a long shot
I guess it is a long shot
I think if they had satellites, we'd be getting their radio transmissions anyway
Keep in mind the timescales of these things though, we only developed radio 110 or so years ago, and it was a while before it became as widespread as it is these days.
How fast does radio signals move? Slower or faster than light?
Wouldn't the radio waves take a long fucking time to get to us?
