Slug back a couple shots of whiskey and pour out a Lone Star, because it looks like True Detective season three is DOA. That news comes courtesy of Vulture, which quotes an interview with new HBO programming head Casey Bloys saying that another season of the show is highly unlikely.
http://www.vulture.com/2016/05/true-detective-season-three-nic-pizzolatto.html?mid=twitter_vulture
Never watched it, all I've heard is that the first season was fantastic and the second season was dreadful.
Never watched it, all I've heard is that the first season was fantastic and the second season was dreadful.
Didn't watch season two, but only the first half of season one was good (pre time skip). They had all this supernatural (or at least a spooky, not supernatural cult) buildup over the whole season and then [sp]it just ended up being one guy and it was resolved really quickly.[/sp]
I watched Luther thinking it was this show. Best mistake I've ever made if what you guys say is true
new HBO programming head Casey Bloys saying that another season of the show is highly unlikely.
I don't like this new guy one bit. More like Casey Blows
Didn't watch season two, but only the first half of season one was good (pre time skip). Season 1 is great, some of the best TV ever made, and Rust is a hell of a character to watch. Season 2, I only made it one episode in because it just failed to grab me. Season 1 had me hooked from the first few minutes in. Season 2 didn't grab me at all.
Oh well. :/

This is very sad. Crime shows on the level of True Detective are so rare.
I watched Luther thinking it was this show. Best mistake I've ever made if what you guys say is true
season 1 is debatable one of the best miniseries ever aired on television, and imo season 2 gets a bad rep because it could never have lived up to that standard, it's still an enjoyable show on its own
The first episode of season 2 is arguably the worst of the season, but it seriously picks itself up on the second one. at least there making Fargo Season 3 the only other real good detective show
Season 1 was fucking amazing, Season 2 was O-K but really couldnt be in the shadow of Season 1 I think they should give it one more shot TBH, I think they just had a swing-and-a-miss with the locale/cast of S2
Season 1 was a creepy [sP]pedo murdering cult thing vs Season 2 was just a basic mob story [/sP]
[sp]did you like, miss at least two episodes? it was made abundantly clear that there was a much larger conspiracy involved, and the protagonists only caught one cog in the machine[/sp]
And that's lame and uninteresting. And again all that spooky shit went no where. Rust was just high. And it got resolved way too easy. The series had a lot of interesting ideas, shots, visuals, and foreshadowing with zero payoff. Remember Woody Harrelsons kids and how much shit was hinted at with them and then... fucking nothing?
Rust was just high.
was he?

Season 1 was great, Season 2 went in different directions which I didn't like and there were a few episodes that didn't go anywhere, I liked the conclusion a lot though.
I actually almost kind of preferred season 2. I understand and appreciate that season 1 was overall much better made and the writing was a lot more tight , while season 2 was a bit of a mess with trying to do too many things at once, and season 1 is still fucking great, I liked that the overall style and the stuff that the plot was dealing with made it almost feel like a really really long Michael Mann movie.

To be fair it seems like Pizza topping said everything he wanted to say with both seasons.

[editline]26th May 2016[/editline] Nah, you are
How is that lame and uninteresting? You make it sound like the only way it would have satisfied you would have been a bullshit happy ending where every loose thread is tied up neatly. You are the worst sort of person when it comes to plot reviews: everything has to be explained explicitly with nothing left to the imagination, character development and emotional payoff are meaningless because the only things that matter are the chronological events. "All the spooky shit went nowhere", do you know what atmosphere is? Do you walk out of a church saying "all that religious looking shit went nowhere". But no you are right especially with the kids [sp]all that stuff couldn't possibly be used to show Woody getting mad paranoid and falling apart as the case goes on, or the weird effect his job was having on his family; no that spooky shit should have had a payoff with the children being the murderers sent by the old gods who Rust was actually communicating with the whole time we thought he was high, with an additional doctor who sci fi bullshit explanation so you could have some fucking closure [/sp]

[editline]26th May 2016[/editline] Nah, you are
ok so what you're doing here is parroting /tv/'s shitposting on the show when it aired True Detective s1 is the best television ever made, ever. It's flawless. All of the spooky shit DID go somewhere. It set the tone of the show, the setting (the South, spooky abandoned churches, small communities) was hugely important to everything. If you don't think a cult of rich child molesters is creepy then there's something wrong with you. s2 is hot garbage
Both seasons are genius. Best series I have ever watched
You mean up until [sp]that bit where they kill one of the main characters in one of the laziest moments ever just to try and wrap it up.[/sp] Season 2 was a fucking joke.
The pacing felt fine to me, but I do remember the bits [sp]in the motel near the end[/sp] were kind of boring. And I thought the wrap up was completely in line with what they were going for as a neo-noir story.
Unpopular opinion time: I didn't think the first season was that special.
Unpopular opinion time: I didn't think the first season was that special.
Yeah; the fact that Rust is the writers self-insert doesn't help.
