There is nothing wrong with Sony blocking CFW users from playing online. There is everything wrong with them removing features from consoles or suing people who modify their own property.
Yeah removing Linux was a dick knee jerk reaction to Geohot finding something in it. They shouldn't have done that really, but it was locked down to hell and back anyway. At least with the CFW release, if it does come out that is, we could end up with unrestricted Linux. Suing the people who are doing it is going overboard again, but they handled damage control so badly they need some way to scare people, even if it makes them look retarded in the process.
That's what people do with money. Use it.
Money which he'd been sent to use for his legal fees. I admit this is conjecture for now, but it'll come out eventually.
Money which he'd been sent to use for his legal fees. I admit this is conjecture for now, but it'll come out eventually.
Are you stupid or really stupid? Geohot started asking for donations in february this year. He (supposedly) planned and paid for this trip in November.
Are you stupid or really stupid? Geohot started asking for donations in february this year. He (supposedly) planned and paid for this trip in November.
note "supposedly"
note "supposedly"
Alright, I'd like to see you plan and pay for a trip and hotel to a different continent in less than a month time.
Money which he'd been sent to use for his legal fees. I admit this is conjecture for now, but it'll come out eventually.
wait, you admit you don't know if you're right, but you counter by saying that eventually we'll know you're right wut
Pretty much yeah, Geohot has never done anything for me
So your opinion is automatically the only correct opinion? My god, you a special case of "special"
Money which he'd been sent to use for his legal fees. I admit this is conjecture for now, but it'll come out eventually.
GeoHot's lawyers already confirmed none of the money he spent was from donations. The trip he took was out of his own pocket.
Jaykray, Geohot has not broken rules. He bought a piece of hardware legally, and he owns it legally. He can legally mod it if he wants to. There is nothing wrong with modders and hackers and really, this childish way of dismissing them? Come the fuck on. Sony is leveling a life destroying lawsuit against a guy who bought something, and through legal transference of property, can now mod that piece of property and you're saying sony is in the right? Who cares who's done more for you, Sony is breaking the law to tell people that they can't legally own their property at all, that Sony still owns their console even while it's in your house.

Sony, by being illegal. Hackers, by going online and downloading games/cheating.
Both sides are shooting themselves in the foot I guess. Sony, by being illegal. Hackers, by going online and downloading games/cheating.
You're acting like GeoHot is a huge hacker and is promoting hacking and is the hacker overlord
I'd be kind of upset if a company sued me for modifying my legally purchased property as well
Not to derail, but I find it amazing that any post you make you always get funny ratings.
Jaykray, Geohot has not broken rules. He bought a piece of hardware legally, and he owns it legally. He can legally mod it if he wants to.
Let me just quote the System Software License Agreement, as it was made in december 2009:
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the System Software, or create any derivative works, or otherwise attempt to create System Software source code from its object code.
Yes, he did break rules. Tough shit.
Sony is breaking the law to tell people that they can't legally own their property at all, that Sony still owns their console even while it's in your house.
Sony created the PS3 hardware, software and PSN, what has Geohot contributed to its development to justify calling it 'his' console in the sense that he can do with the software whatever the fuck he wishes?
Both sides are shooting themselves in the foot I guess. Sony, by being illegal. Hackers, by going online and downloading games/cheating.
Yeah because everyone who runs CFW is an obvious pirate or will cheat in games. This retarted.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, you may not reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble any portion of the System Software, or create any derivative works, or otherwise attempt to create System Software source code from its object code.
If I bought it, I should be able to do what I want with it.
Not to derail, but I find it amazing that any post you make you always get funny ratings.
He's Zeke. He ALWAYS gets funny ratings.
Yeah because everyone who runs CFW is an obvious pirate or will cheat in games.
And Sony is obviously a monsterous money grabbing corporation because they don't like having their console hacked.
And Sony is obviously a monsterous money grabbing corporation
Uh, yeah. I know you were trying to be sarcastic, but, this is actually an accurate statement.
If I bought it, I should be able to do what I want with it.
But you aren't. Fact. [editline]30th March 2011[/editline]
Yeah because everyone who runs CFW is an obvious pirate or will cheat in games.
Seeing what happened to the Wii, I think at least more than 50% of CFW users use it to pirate.
Both sides are shooting themselves in the foot I guess. Sony, by being illegal. Hackers, by going online and downloading games/cheating.
Yet another person who thinks hacking and piracy and cheating are one in the same! Yay for more ignorance! [editline]30th March 2011[/editline]
Let me just quote the System Software License Agreement, as it was made in december 2009: Yes, he did break rules. Tough shit. He didn't sign to make him in agreement to the contract you have quoted there. So, uhm... no? [editline]30th March 2011[/editline]
But you aren't. Fact. [editline]30th March 2011[/editline] Seeing what happened to the Wii, I think at least more than 50% of CFW users use it to pirate.
And you're defending so called "fact"? Cool, I too think you don't really own that house you live in, there's a hidden clause you never knew about that means your house is really my house. See? You don't own it Do you see the issue with not actually owning property you buy? Are you going to continue telling people it's okay they don't own what they buy? You think? Cool, I LOVE that statistic.
If you purchase something you have legal right to it. He didn't sign to make him in agreement to the contract you have quoted there. So, uhm... no?
By buying and using it, you're agreeing to follow the rules given to you by Sony. You don't follow the rules, you get punished.
By buying and using it, you're agreeing to follow the rules given to you by Sony. You don't follow the rules, you get punished.
You just pulled some major bullshit there You don't agree to anything through the simple purchase, except, that you now own what you paid for. That's not the way contracts like that work. Punished? Life ruining law suit clearly being the logical next step to someone hacking a fucking badly made piece of software. [editline]30th March 2011[/editline] Please, continue defending a corporation who's only real goal is to make money(I am 100% behind this goal) and has no qualms of any sort of damage that this leaves in it's path(100% against this). Please, keep telling me that when I've purchased something, I've signed an imaginary contract! Please, I love reading shit that would make lawyers baww in laughter.
He's Zeke. He ALWAYS gets funny ratings.
I'm only trying to be funny half the time, it's actually quite annoying
PS3 was the last console to be hacked, it's not badly made.
Really? A root key that basically leaves every single one of their consoles irreparably opened? And where did I mention any of the others as if they were better? Don't start some console argument where I'm not trying to for fucks sakes. And yeah, the 360 was hacked, and so was kinect, and microsoft even released drivers to make hacking the kinect easier. And what has that brought us? What good is there in saying you can't hack something? They're going to do it anyways. They're not causing serious damage to the business(If you're trusting Sony's word on how much "damage" geohotz has done to them, then I'm sorry, you're too far gone) so what's the fucking point to all this?
Yet another person who thinks hacking and piracy and cheating are one in the same! Yay for more ignorance! Cool, I LOVE that statistic.
No I'm not defending it. I'm saying it is there and it exists and that is, unlike what you assume, without any evaluation. As your post I quoted here and before show, you seem to forget a thing: What you think "should happen" is not what the lawyers and corporations deal with. Your example obviously is out of place since anyone buying a house with a "hidden" clause in the contract is an idiot. [editline]30th March 2011[/editline]
You just pulled some major bullshit there You don't agree to anything through the simple purchase, except, that you now own what you paid for. Your example obviously is out of place since anyone buying a house with a "hidden" clause in the contract is an idiot.
Yes and anyone buying a house like that would be an idiot, but what you're all saying is that by buying their console, I've agreed to some rule, that I haven't agreed to. Don't imply to me that by purchasing a product, and never actually having signed anything, I've agreed to ANY sort of contract. That's a falsity. Shall I call a lawyer? I have one on speed dial and it's free for me, so do you want me to check that out? Because I guarantee you, you haven't "signed" a contract then. And if anyone took the time to read the article in question, he's not guilty because they assert he never signed the EULA, or the TOS agreements because he never went online with his console. So how the fuck is he prosecutable under something he isn't under?
and has no qualms of any sort of damage that this leaves in it's path(100% against this)
Well then releasing CFW to the public is also what you are against.
But the ToS state that by using the PS3 you agree to the ToS.
How does that work exactly? If you aren't confronted with any way to agree to it verbally or contractually, they can't really entrap you into an agreement, not to mention the number of problems that brings up when you have friends play on your PS3 or what not. Do I need to explain why simple use of a system "forcing" agreement seems, and is very wrong? [editline]30th March 2011[/editline]
Well then releasing CFW to the public is also what you are against.
Why? Because it causes "damage"? What damage? How is that damage inflicted? Why is that damage bad?
Yes and anyone buying a house like that would be an idiot, but what you're all saying is that by buying their console, I've agreed to some rule, that I haven't agreed to. I still have mine from the SNES and even THEY state that you shall not tinker with the soft/hardware. They can't prosecute him for the stuff that has to do with the PSN, that's probably right.
By buying and using it, you're agreeing to follow the rules given to you by Sony. You don't follow the rules, you get punished.
I don't remember signing my rights away when I bought it from play.com
