I know you were playing devils advocate but there really actually is. For example, the first time I watched Repo! The Genetic Opera, it was online. It was instantly one of my favorite movies. From there, I bought it on DVD. If not for my pirated copy of the movie, I would never have discovered it and therefor, would never had bought it.
I never got a chance to buy Red Alert 2 :smith: So I bought 3 instead.
This. I mentioned it earlier, it got ignored, but yeah, Microsoft rather than being the evil company so many like to portray them as, is actually encouraging the user base to hack and mod and find new ways to do things. Hacking and modding are not bad things.
Microsoft isn't really that special. Nintendo and Sony also didn't care when people were hacking their controllers for use on the PC.

What should i do now  No really i agree, i actually bought so many videos. I think it was some leaked shit from Phone Booth i ended buying a collectors edition of it.

Again, they have released a feature for their controllers that people probably wanted. Nintendo and Sony probably didn't make a big deal out of it because there wasn't really anything to be done.

I mean games super meat boy and shank pretty much feel when i put the controller in.

My 360 controller uses it as a charging dock for some reason, I also can't find the drivers for it. So anyway, you were asking about my point. I'm very sorry for not mentioning this in my earlier post, but Microsoft bricks consoles if they detect hacks or pirated games. Sony and Nintendo does this too. My point is that all companies don't encourage hacks whenever it comes to consoles, but they don't really care when people hack controllers.

Charge and play kit's don't work

Microsoft shifted their stance once they looked at what good can be done with modding, and Sony should have taken a page out of their book.
Pretty much yeah, Geohot has never done anything for me, Sony has, so from my point of view Sony are better. Obviously people have different opinions.
What did Sony "Do for you?" Make a console? Hate to break it to you, but that's not "for you"
Microsoft brick the console if it's modded specifically to take pirates games, but lately they've been encouraging people to hack the Kinect, so your point is invalid.
Because I can totally hack Kinect to pirate games on it, right?
Maybe. You can certainly hack Kinect to do things other than it was intended to do. I'm pretty sure people are actually inventing games and such on it, and Microsoft is essentially giving them mod tools to help them out. Once they realized the potential of the product they let the community go crazy with it, because they realized it will sell Kinects, and the pros will heavily outweigh the cons. Like I've been saying, Sony should have done the same thing. It's not like GeoHot was intending it to be used for piracy, so I think saying it can be used for piracy and therefore is evil is an invalid argument. The internet can be used to pirate games and movies and music let's sue everyone who uses it.
Because I can totally hack Kinect to pirate games on it, right?
I believe there was a statistic published recently that ended up on facepunch that only 8% of the internet users in the US pirate. I guess those untold damages really aren't so untold.
I took SP only games as an example since they tend to suffer the most.
Just Cause 2 Proof that if you release the best demo of the decade people will buy your SP-only game in droves
Just Cause 2 Proof that if you release the best demo of the decade people will buy your SP-only game in droves
Dead Rising 2 Case Zero. Dead Rising 2 sold like crack.
:woop: :woop: everybody loves an underdog
Dead Rising 2 Case Zero. Dead Rising 2 sold like crack.
Case Zero was pure evil :argh: i just had to buy the full game after it. Fucking assholes.
Case Zero was pure evil :argh: i just had to buy the full game after it. Fucking assholes.
If games started selling themselves like that, a cheap or free 2-4 hour demo or something like that before the real game comes out to build excitement. I think it worked well in the past, why not try again
Jaykray, Geohot has not broken rules. He bought a piece of hardware legally, and he owns it legally.
He owns the console, he however does not own the software. He has been granted a license to use the software through the purchase of the console, and in using that software, he must conform with the ToS laid out by Sony.
He can legally mod it if he wants to.
Not without express permission from Sony. However, even if he chooses to forego permission from Sony, it is illegal under the DMCA, as it expressly prohibits any modification to software that is encrypted in any form.
Sony is leveling a life destroying lawsuit against a guy who bought something
And this is where it is wrong. Sony should not be taking legal action against Geohot, however they are required to protect their interests.
and through legal transference of property, can now mod that piece of property and you're saying sony is in the right?
Legal transfer of property does not apply in this situation, as the lawsuit brought against Geohot is in relation to the software, not for modifying the console itself. Sony's OS on the Playstation is, and will always remain their property, and nobody has a free license to do what they want with it (whether or not this is right or wrong is another story).
Sony is breaking the law to tell people that they can't legally own their property at all, that Sony still owns their console even while it's in your house.
If Sony was breaking the law, the judge would've stopped any litigation at step 1, however this has not occurred.
Can you preach anything more wack and incorrect?
...dude you're in for it now.
...dude you're in for it now.
That's fine. Most of Facepunch are just going to preach it's illegal because they think the lawsuit is wrong (which it is wrong, but not illegal).
Fuck off Geohot, I hope you lose.
Fuck off Geohot, I hope you lose.
If Geohot wins, we consumers wins. :argh:
Too bad the judge probably doesn't give a fuck. Courts always take the side of big business. The American legal system is like a steaming pile of dog shit: everyone acknowledges it smells like shit, but no one wants to be the one to clean it up.

But you can't really deny that some people do pirate and hack.
why would you support Sony? i seriously don't understand, it's like some of you want to have less rights as a consumer
Can you preach anything more wack and incorrect?
right, cause consumer rights and freedom of the internet is wack i'm not even going to bother, you'll say the same things you said the last time we argued about this and we'll get no where. I'm not likely to start sucking up to corporate rights anytime soon, and you're not about to start acknowledging consumer freedoms also, what was "wack" about what I "preach"
I only support GeoHot because of Sony's bully tactics pretty standard disgusting corporate behaviour, too bad it works in their favour
