Ahaha you can't be serious. I knew english since I was 13 and english is my 3rd language, first being latvian and second being russian. English is really easy, especially if you compare it to something like russian or german.
you learned english, therefore english can't be too hard is this what you're saying [editline]23rd December 2010[/editline] why else would you bring out the fact that you speak it to counter the claim that it's not an easy language
English incorporates any foreign word and doesn't give a fuck. Other languages don't take foreign language words because it sullies the purity of the language. Because it's so adaptive and does actually evolve rather than shun foreign languages, English is likely to become the world language and stay there. Plus the internet helps. Think back to the invention of the printing press and how it standardised English in England. The internet standardises all languages and most people who get into the net have to learn English to make the most of it.
you learned english, therefore english can't be too hard is this what you're saying [editline]23rd December 2010[/editline] why else would you bring out the fact that you speak it to counter the claim that it's not an easy language
Because english is much easier than people claim it to be.
Because english is much easier than people claim it to be.
You're free to believe that but I don't understand why you'd go around claiming it without anything to back it up.
Maybe we should ban Chinese or at least there money.
You're free to believe that but I don't understand why you'd go around claiming it without anything to back it up.
How can you back up a statement in which language is easier or harder?
-this post has been redacted by Chinese Department of Language Purity-
More like -這個職位一直由中文系絕密純淨的語言- [editline]23rd December 2010[/editline] Also, isn't English one of the hardest languages to learn?
So is chinese, at least the chinese vocabular, It doesn't have verbs, plurals, singulars, sex denominations (he, she), and it's pretty straightforward, The chinese script however is hard to learn as every character has a different meaning and pronunciation, most scripts being distincts, but easy to learn once you get used to it. [img_thumb]http://palmgoon.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/the_more_you_know2.jpg[/img_thumb]
Yeah, the speakable chinese is rather easy, but the writing part totally kills it.
If you ran an authoritarian country and were concerned about pro-Western sentiments threatening loyalty to the state, you'd use the preservation of cultural identity as an excuse to squelch external influence.
who really fucking cares, english is a shit tier language anyway also china is currently trying to standardize their OWN language because of regional differences, and involving a terribad language like english isn't going to help. [editline]22nd December 2010[/editline]
Maybe we should ban Chinese or at least there money.
because then our economy would be ruined :D
How can you back up a statement in which language is easier or harder?
That's a good point. Arguing about which language is easiest is stupid, because how easy a language is to learn is an opinion influenced by a massive range of causes. You can argue about which language is "best," but stop with this "easiest" nonsense. Also with that "the internet standardizes languages" comment, I think it's more than just the internet. So much of the modern world was built by English-speaking nations. Just think about it. "The sun never sets on the British Empire." Literally, the UK owned a gigantic portion of the world -- India, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, countless islands, most of the spine of Africa, and of course the British Isles. Then, beyond that, the UK maintained a monopoly over trade in China. Later on, the USA rose as a world power. They gained much land within North America and several islands. The USA is also responsible for forcing Japan to modernize (literally, the USA parked a massive fleet of ironclads off the coast of Japan and told them to open up their ports). Oh, and back on topic, China really hasn't surprised me by doing this.
who really fucking cares, english is a shit tier language anyway also china is currently trying to standardize their OWN language because of regional differences, and involving a terribad language like english isn't going to help.
It's going to be as possible as former Yugoslavia trying to implement a "Yugoslavian" language and getting rid of the others.
It's going to be as possible as former Yugoslavia trying to implement a "Yugoslavian" language and getting rid of the others.
China needs a standardized language, english is only fucking it up.
How can you back up a statement in which language is easier or harder?
Scientific data would be the best, but logical reasons will do in the absence of studies. There are significant differences between languages. Knowing multiple languages, you probably have noticed them. Since those depend on the languages and not on the speaker, I should be able to see them as well. Just point out the properties that are absent or not as pronounced in other languages and that make English easy compared to them. [editline]23rd December 2010[/editline] Weighing the differences is of course subjective, but I just want to know why anyone would think English easy
China needs a standardized language, english is only fucking it up.
Nah, just leave it be. People in the south and in Hong Kong wouldn't take too kindly to being forced by some old guys up in the north to speak Mandarin.
I used to think that the Swedish language should be kept "pure", but then I realized that it'd be impossible since it's made from french, german, latin and english and that everyday swedish has way too many loan words from english.
What the hell I thought UK and China was cool?
It doesn't have verbs
what
What the hell I thought UK and China was cool?
It isn't about that.
There goes English proper nouns. This is not going to end well.
There goes English proper nouns. This is not going to end well.
they CAN convert our words into their own writing system. They're just trying to get their own country's language in check before they let it evolve. In fact, theyre currently rewriting their own writing system/language right now so as to more efficiently run the country
Whats really funny is that in America we don't speak normal English at all. We either mix it with shit tons of other languages or we just speak retarded English.
