Thats not my opinion, that was a well established fact and a huge thorn in the British's side during the hottest points of the whole bloody affair. The active units of the IRA got nearly all their arms from Lebanon, Libya and the US. At one point American citizens were a primary source of funding for the Irish. A lot of Americans romanticized the IRA and they still do romanticize the Irish in general.
