Much of Facepunch are american male teenagers who think firearms are awesome. You wouldn't go to North Korea to try and argue why Kim jong il actually isn't a cool guy. [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] Yes of course, but an amendment from 1791 isn't outdated :downs:
glad to see even progressives can be bigoted and use generalizations/stereotypes
glad to see even progressives can be bigoted and use generalizations/stereotypes
Yes of course. Saying that many young male american teenagers like guns is totally bigoted. Then not even blink at the irony of labelling as a 'progressive'.
Yes of course, but an amendment from 1791 isn't outdated :downs:
Comparing stats to a constitution is plain dumb.
Comparing stats to a constitution is plain dumb.
I'm not comparing the two, just what people deem as 'outdated'.
Implying Facepunch hive mind
Well sobotnik was told to not even bother arguing his position as the majority of facepunch is so firmly in the other camp that it's a waste of time so I'd say his generalization is pretty accurate
Fuck guns
Fuck guns
That would hurt.
Yes of course, but an amendment from 1791 isn't outdated :downs:
i haaaate this kind of argument the 2nd amendment is written on an old document. but simply because you don't agree with what it says doesn't mean "it's old" is a valid reason to toss it out the window, because if you aren't tossing out the rest of the bill of rights with it, then you have a double standard when it comes to how old things are.
but simply because you don't agree with what it says doesn't mean "it's old" is a valid reason to toss it out the window

That 40% figure comes from a telephone poll from 1994.

It's outdated. 1994 was almost 20 years ago, with the introduction the first Assault Weapons Ban.
It was me picking up on the double standards when it comes to how old things are. Not you. But expecting any level of sensible reading comprehension from knee-jerk guntards is often too much for facepunch, as it seems I need to give everything I post an extra simple explanation a few posts later.

And a study whose data and results are both 20 years old is kind of in a different league when it comes to age and validity than an amendment, nice try though.
because if you aren't tossing out the rest of the bill of rights with it
They quickly tossed prohibition from the constitution when they realised it was dumb.
P.S. this knee jerk guntard right here voted for Obama and supports mostly "Democratic" views!!
So? [editline]20th March 2013[/editline]
Do you want people to actually debate with you or are you just going to act like a jackass.
Are you actually going to add anything or are you just going to phantom rate an entire thread again?
They quickly tossed prohibition from the constitution when they realised it was dumb.
They've had 222 years to throw out a supposedly dumb amendment :)
They've had 222 years to throw out a supposedly dumb amendment :)
It'll probably take another 222 years considering how slow america is at keeping up with the world. But until then, enjoy being on the wrong side of history to keep future school kids entertained.
You're missing healthcare, religion and a terrible history of equality and human rights.
There you go. Now you're thinking on the right track. I'm disgusted that gun bans are first on the ticket when there's all of this other important shit that nobody seemingly cares about, and in the case of healthcare, Obamacare is just laughably awful.
A brilliant case of handwavium posed by gun-lobby mouthpieces everywhere.
What, and posts like these are excusable because you're anti-gun? Give me a break. [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] Your argument right now is literally "GET A LOAD OF THESE GUYS HAHAHAHA"
What, and posts like these are excusable because you're anti-gun? Give me a break. [editline]20th March 2013[/editline] Your argument right now is literally "GET A LOAD OF THESE GUYS HAHAHAHA"
I just don't recognise the "you can't talk about guns until we fix healthcare" as a legitimate argument.
I just don't recognise the "you can't talk about guns until we fix healthcare" as a legitimate argument.
The gun control debate is just a smoke screen, as it pretty much always is. These politicians aren't as stupid as they like to appear, they know the stats and they know gun control is a losing proposition. Real issues like the US economy are getting drowned out by "ASSAULT WEAPONS BAN!!!!1111!!1!" (which are responsible for less than 4% of gun related deaths every year). Even then, there are other aspects of this that are debatable, such as whether the federal government even has the authority to control firearms, considering that authority was never granted by the Constitution or Bill of Rights.
I just don't recognise the "you can't talk about guns until we fix healthcare" as a legitimate argument.
I didn't say it was off limits, I think it's a ridiculous thing to focus on in the grand scheme of things. I'd rather have our horrible education system fixed than have Congress sit around and throw sob stories around explaining why we should get rid of scary looking things, but I guess expecting Congress to fix legitimate issues is a lot to ask for
http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/hicrc/firearms-research/guns-and-death/ Not a problem at all :downs: But as I said earlier, there is no more point arguing for inter-racial relationships on stormfront than there is arguing for this in SH. So I guess we should leave it at that.
Again, I don't know anyone who thinks or has said firearm homicide is a non-issue. Maybe it's time to stop posting.
Again, I don't know anyone who thinks or has said firearm homicide is a non-issue. Maybe it's time to stop posting.
Then why has the pro-gun lobby on facepunch made such a politically toxic issue to discuss ? There is honestly very little that can draw such a hostile reaction from people in this forum than posting the things I have in this thread. Nothing beyond directly condoning paedophilia.
Well sobotnik was told to not even bother arguing his position as the majority of facepunch is so firmly in the other camp that it's a waste of time so I'd say his generalization is pretty accurate
The rest of FP isn't in another camp. They just don't post, or if they do, they do it in subforums away from all the hassle. Every time I've seen big threads about gun bans in the past, the ratings for the OP are split 50/50 with dumbs and winners. I'm one of the few people who's arsed enough to keep arguing, mainly due to my experience with the Anglo-Saxon Foundation.
The reason you've drawn a hostile reaction in the thread is because 80% of your posts are "lol get a load of these guntards."
Its not just me, its anyone.
Sobotnik man you gotta stop this; it's the same story with every single one of these threads. You're just not going to win.

Its not just me, its anyone.
Well yeah. A lot of people on both sides are complete assholes to anyone with a different opinion. Believe me, I agree with you that gun violence is an issue, but I don't think assault weapon bans and magazine caps are going to solve the issue.
