"I'm right" "Why" "Common sense" Truly an intellectual of the ages.
"I'm fine with it so everybody else should be too." You don't come off as such an intellect either.
Oh my god, how precious
stupid questions get stupid answers bud.
"I'm fine with it so everybody else should be too." You don't come off as such an intellect either.
I haven't pretentiously claimed to be superior to someone else in this thread. I didn't even fucking claim to be universally correct. I ultimately said let the school do this, as all ideas must start somewhere, and see how it turns out.
Man, if my school had gender neutral bathrooms I wouldn't have felt embarrassed walking into the wrong one after a really dull class that one time. So I support this protest, I guess.

If anything its somebody walking in and saying "why do you still want that? it's just a social construct!" is what sounds pretentious as fuck and 'socially superior'. lmfao
Haha oh man, you sound like a drunk at a bar trying to sound smart with quips you learned from your dad
These aren't your mom's comebacks. Yah, were getting to this level of replies.
Haha oh man, you sound like a drunk at a bar trying to sound smart with quips you learned from your dad
I'd have something legitimate to say to you if you actually participated in the thread instead of sitting on the side lines as a fucked up peanut gallery only to give your two cents when its time to throw around personal insults. :speechless:
Peanut gallery. What even is that and who even says that
you're only solidifying my accusation. Go look it up. Read the actual thread, and you will see my points. we need a bad reading rating back. Hell, a no reading rating.
I believe it would be beneficial to move toward gradually breaking down the gender roles and such that warrant the mutual "courtesy" of men and women having separate bathrooms, rather than keeping it as it is forever. We all poop.

The right has never been guaranteed to not have people not in the same bathroom with you based on gender. Also do I have to iterate again that it's not just an open room with holes in the ground that everyone visibly shits in? Stalls. If you're going to talk about sexual attraction, we don't have an epidemic of gays, lesbians, etc. doing it in their current bathrooms. Also it is a social construct unless you provide a concrete reason for it existing. All you've provided are assertions backed by tradition. That's literally a social construct lol.

http://civilrights.findlaw.com/civil-rights-overview/civil-rights-vs-civil-liberties.html To be honest, all you're saying is "since I'm fine with it, this social construct is bullshit and there is no reason for it." So I think I'm done here because we've gone in a circle 3 times.

So I think I'm done here because we've gone in a circle 3 times.
I explained how America has it. It hasn't been formally defined as "this is your right of privacy and this is what that right entails," it exists as a consequence of what else exists and is thus somewhat flakey. Do I have to play the racial desegregation card again. It's a much more extreme example but your logic is effectively the same. You claimed X should be separate because of tradition. That's what they did. Huh. edit:
Like i said. Men want their privacy from women. Men don't want to walk out of their stall and see a bunch of women gossiping and putting on makeup, women don't want to hear men taking brutal shits and pissing on the floor. This is a societal norm for a reason. Somebody didn't just think it up arbitrarily an suddenly convince every other citizen of the west it was the way to go. It was a universally decided fact.
that was your closest thing to an argument
Just as intellectual as the "I'll assume X until someone proves me wrong" a couple posts up.
You assume that the rest of university won't like this. I assume that the rest of the university doesn't really care or supports and until there's some sort of response like a protest or petition to the dean I'm not going to assume differently. You just see the glass half empty, I see the glass half full. It's not like they're asking everyone to poop in the same bucket.
The disabled bathroom is already gender neutral. I was trying to work out how many bathrooms you would need for each combination. Male Female Mixed Male + Trans-Female Male + Trans-Male Female + Trans-Female Female + Trans-Male Non-Binary Only Non-Binary with Female-allowed Non-Binary with Male-allowed Non-Binary with either Male or Female allowed Non-Binary with Trans-Female Non-Binary with Trans-Male Non-Binary with Trans (Either) Only Trans only (mixed) I apologies profusely if I offended anyone by missing one out. Eventually there would be enough stalls available for private whole bathroom use anyway.
Or just have the bathrooms be non-gendered yo it's really not that complicated.
The disabled bathroom is already gender neutral. I was trying to work out how many bathrooms you would need for each combination so as to avoid a trigger situation. Only thing to do now is to order them correctly in the hall so as not to unfairly discriminate based on distance-to-walk.

To treat it any other way is fine, but you shouldn't use it as a basis of justification.

So I think I'm done here because we've gone in a circle 3 times.
Social constructs can be beneficial, but they must be looked at critically to see what purpose they serve. I posit that segregated bathrooms are inconvenient compared to gender neutral ones - you have to look for a men's or women's bathroom specifically to go into or piss yourself. I'm exaggerating slightly in that you'd probably find the right bathroom before your bladder explodes, but my point is that segregated bathrooms as a concept aren't as utilitarian and convenient as gender neutral bathrooms.
what if I had to shit while they were all occupying the stalls in protest?
I mean gender neutral bathrooms are already a thing. But more frequently, they're referred to as family bathrooms in more regulated establishments like grocery store chains or department stores. Even in places like malls and even in elementary/middle/high schools they often have a family bathroom available. Or a "staff" bathroom that school staff of any gender can use. I just see that this university is seeing the benefit of having more of these available.
what if I had to shit while they were all occupying the stalls in protest?
That's the whole point of the protest.
I personally think what would be a neat option for gender neutral bathrooms is using a design like this: [t]http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-krOMIuLCX9A/Uyersa_wJSI/AAAAAAAABrI/t65BTd5bqE4/s1600/bucees+bathrooms.jpg[/t] You can have the bathroom relegated to just one room instead of tons of individual ones, but offer these types of doors for privacy.
what if I had to shit while they were all occupying the stalls in protest?
Do it the south park way: find a urinal.
BDA, could you link that CBS poll if possible por favor? I'd like to read it at the source

Honestly, if the university wants to make one of these gigantic Buc ee's styled restrooms for everyone, I'm game. [t]http://farm4.static.flickr.com/3030/2491717560_04f5e4ca94.jpg[/t] Fuck yah, I hold a shit for 35 minutes longer than usual on a road trip to stop at a Buc-ees.

I'm Texan and I've never gone inside one of those gotta fix that I guess?
They're great. Still gender segregated but I don't see why it couldn't work as a gender neutral concept.
I'm Texan and I've never gone inside one of those gotta fix that I guess?
On a family trip back from Florida, my mom made us wait 1 extra hour so we could go to a Buc-ees. My girlfriend and I were just like, "Seriously, we just want to get a slur-pee and pee." Turns out it was worth it, but it's like something straight out of National Lampoon Griswald family shit with that beaver obsession.
The university I graduated from was in the process of moving to gender neutral toilets in my final year. Starting with the ones attached to the on campus nightclub/ event hall. They opted for something a bit like that, just knocked down the dividing wall between the male and female bogs, replaced all the urinals with stalls and moved the sinks to the entrance hall. It's now an entirely open plan toilet, you can look straight at the stalls from outside as there's no door (and on club nights the bouncers hang around outside just in case). No complaints of sexual assault thus far, even though they are serving a literal horde of drunk as fuck students constantly. Huh, it's almost as if the threat of sexual assault is massively overblown??!? If someone wanted to attack someone, the door having "female" on it isn't going to stop them "darn that's the womens loo, plan foiled!".
The idea is not to build a third, gender neutral bathroom, but to make the existing gendered bathrooms neutral. IE- all stalls and no urinals, or urinals behind a partition.
Removing urinals would be pretty stupid. There's a reason there are queues at the front of women's bathrooms and never at the front of men's.
