No, he was pulled away by suspected members of a Secret Police donning blue clothes. Nobody knows what happened to him. China was not able to produce any record of his life or existence after people found out what he did. Though he's probably dead I like to imagine he's still alive and kicking somewhere. Dude's a legend.
I agree with Lankist, they probably killed him or locked him in a dungeon somewhere far far away. The chinese government wouldn't tolerate an open dissuader. I hope he's alive though, maybe by some miracle they let him go if he promised never to say anything again.
Yes it is. Although I've heard tons of people say it's just Dancing With Wolves, my sister says it's Pocahontas, and the effects don't look as good to me as District 9. The only reason I'm considering going is because of James Cameron, and Stephen Lang.
District 9 is one of the best movies to come along in a long time. I am one of the 5 people who haven't seen it. :/
The only reason he's such an icon is because the tank didn't run him over.
No, because he stood in front of a tank and certain death, and instead of running he climbed aboard and YELLED DOWN THE BARREL OF THE CANNON at the crew inside. He would have been an even greater martyr and icon had they killed him publicly. [editline]02:18PM[/editline] Let me reiterate. This guy, walking home with groceries and bags, saw tanks rolling down the street toward protesters. And he stopped them single-handedly, even after they tried to drive around him. And then he CLIMBED ON TOP YELLED DOWN THE BARREL OF THE CANNON and then TALKED WITH THE TANK'S COMMANDER before climbing off and getting BACK IN FRONT OF THE TANK.
I wonder what the tank commander thought, I wonder if he'll ever come forward and offer his thoughts on the matter. The tank man probably already is a martyr, he's almost certainly dead. Realistically.
Didn't you see Watchmen? Blue People hate asians. Also, I refuse to see Avatar, because it's nothing new, and it caused Hurt Locker to get snubbed. Maybe in a while.
Hmm. I thought it was because avatar was better...
At the time, I'm pretty positive he was thinking "Get out of the way, goddammit."
Not necessarily. I doubt the tank crews were very happy about massacring thousands of their own countrymen under the order of an oppressive and faceless regime.
Hmm. I thought it was because avatar was better...
Yeah, Dancing with Wolves was a great film.
Not necessarily. I doubt the tank crews were very happy about massacring thousands of their own countrymen under the order of an oppressive and faceless regime.
Well, more like he wants him to get out of the way so he WON'T have to kill him. [editline]01:27PM[/editline]
Yeah, Dancing with Wolves was a great film.
I like how that's all people revert to when criticizing Avatar.
This is weird cause a lot of people in china live in the sort of environment Jake described as the entire earth. Also I'll lol when I hear a news story about some chinese guy trying to ride a tiger to defeat the government cause he saw that one Na'vi girl doing it in the movie.
Well, more like he wants him to get out of the way so he WON'T have to kill him. [editline]01:27PM[/editline] I like how that's all people revert to when criticizing Avatar.
I'd just like to know what his perspective was, actually being their in real life must have been a very odd experience.
Well, more like he wants him to get out of the way so he WON'T have to kill him.
That's what made it so fascinating, though. Because he didn't kill him. In as small a scale as it was, Tank Man inspired a short but crucial defiance of orders. Amidst the tyranny and oppression and murder that took place that day, that tiny act of defiance is a small piece of hope. It is a literal Pandora's Box. [editline]02:47PM[/editline] Hey look at that another reference!
Take that China. :fsmug:

[editline]01:27PM[/editline] I like how that's all people revert to when criticizing Avatar.
because it's true. it's a very direct copy of Dances With Wolves, or really just that type of western in general. it is visually amazing, but don't try and act like the plot has any bit of originality in it. [editline]04:19PM[/editline]
Hmm. I thought it was because avatar was better...
hell no. Hurt Locker was an amazing film with an original storyline. all avatar has is a huge budget and good CG. the only value avatar has is visual. it is mildly entertaining at best.
Too bad china blocks FP.
The glorious peoples republic of China is up to shenanigans once again!
The Chinese moviegoers must be blue about this decision.
I never saw it and don't intend to unless it comes on the TV in like four years when I'm incredibly bored.
I never saw it and don't intend to unless it comes on the TV in like four years when I'm incredibly bored.
This.
In other news James Cameron is masturbating to people's obsession with this movie
This time, It comes from China. :china: Because giant 2D Blue people are the greatest threat known to the glorious Peoples Republic of China as of right now.
Fix'd
For those of you that don't know, Tank Man did move out of the way, but only by climbing aboard the tank and then holding a civil discussion with the crew inside.
It went something like this, "Get da fok outta here modderfokker! Fokken bitch!" I mean seriously, he fucking hopped up and started banging on the lid and yelled at them. Probably called him an asshole. I'd give that man a high five for the balls he showed.

How does one yell into the cannon while you're standing on the tank? Last I checked barrel > tank body
How does one yell into the cannon while you're standing on the tank? Last I checked barrel > tank body
The barrels of each tank were angled upward, making it possible to climb atop and lean in front.
