Oh how I wish I could be the subject to this.
Then again if this ever becomes mainstream, artists, musicians, actors, comedians, etc will all gain an extreme amount of competition.
You never know, It could just start up a new level of art. If everyone starts with advanced knowledge of this shit imagine how good things could get if they wanted to keep learning and improve on their already amazing skill.
Sounds a great way for governments to brainwash their citizens.
Problem is, what if the government uploads propaganda or such into these machines?
Or, they could just waltz in, plug in their hard drive, delete everything, and replace that information with a lot of lies and incorrect facts.
If there'll be a central authority who will control these machines, they will control the facts they give us. They will be able to control the way we think, the way we process the information around us. They will be able to give us the false sense of knowing everything we wanted, when in fact, we will only know what they wanted us to know.
Who knows when will someone abuse his power, and uploads the information that 2 plus 2 equals 5?
What if everyone is taught that 2 plus 2 equals five? Does it become a fact, or not?
Personally, I'll never use these machines. Too much space for manipulation, and there's selfishness in each one of us.
Do you think this could be used to teach people with things like asperger syndrome or autism to act more normally in society by just downloading normal social behaviors into their heads?

It would have to be regulated by a large, anonymous group of intelligent people who don't have anything to gain by tricking the masses. They wouldn't be allowed to know who the other members of the group are either so that they can't work together to corrupt the system without one of them calling the rest of them out on it and they wouldn't be able to use it themselves. Ofcourse that would be incredibly difficult to organise.

And it should have as little to do with the government as possible.
It can literally change your mind, without your consent even?
That sounds a tad bit terrifying
Wow, what the fuck. This would've been so useful ~5 years ago.
Goodbye schools!
I've been playing piano for the last 9 years. I've spent a lot of time and energy to get as good as I am and now they're saying they're going to be able to make that sort of thing happen in an instant. It's a little unfair.
They're not the same thing though, you actually know how to do it, they mentally know how to do it while you have muscle memory and other benefits
In the Matrix the point was that because they mentally downloaded it and could therefore do it in their mind, they couldn't do their great martial arts skills outside of the Matrix unless they took the time to learn it the normal way, in which the downloaded knowledge would greatly aid in the learning process
And to be honest, that's how the world works. People used to take many years learning to paint photorealistic paintings then the camera was invented and it basically killed it off, though you'll notice just because the camera can do better doesn't mean that any nonskilled individual can make it better. To continue this connection, the camera never completely killed off painting
We just need to make sure this isn't abused
Please, Have this in time for when im 16 and can get my pilot licence!

Wait, if this'll make 90% of the schooling process obsolete, won't we have a flood of teachers who just lost their jobs because they aren't neuroscientists?
What disturbs me is that whole countries would use this to train universal soldiers and professional killers. Things could go down.
give me sherlock holmes-esque abilities please

Which is why we can't ever let this technology into the wrong hands. We need a single, world-wide indifferent party to dispense these, and we need that party to remain indifferent, calm, and controlled.
But what if someone tries to steal these from that party? Well they'll need a PMC to protect it, and that just makes the task of remaining uncorrupted even harder - you'd basically be the most powerful man in the world. So I don't know what we'll do with these, but whatever we do, we need to keep them safe.

Training soldiers with this (as long as they're still volunteer soldiers) could be a great use for this, though it still doesn't replace the training needed both physically and mentally

Homles just thought in a certain way, he didn't know any secret knowledge that you can learn

How can this be great? Countries with this kind of advantage will just humiliate those, who dont have it. It will look like Metal Gear Solid, just with less nanotech yet machines would do a lot of training for you.
yeah but this thing can do it for me so feck off

I've been doing that with the violin and I'm glad this is happening, so that others don't have to share my blood and tears.

Read. The. Article.
It's just for physical and cognitive activities it can teach you, even then you still need tests to see if you've correctly acquired the information.
$20 bucks it's just a guy flashing pictures at you.

I only go to school for the social profits.
Well schools are obsolete these days anyway because of the technology we have.

PURITY FIRST
Hope governments won't use this to impose retard agendas regarding their poor fucking excuse for drug policy.
All republicans could look smart...
Then they would no longer be republicans because their brain capacity would increase

This could definitely help people learning a language though with certain muscle issues, such as Asians using the letter l or v.

This also has the potential of raping the job market for teachers. Why pay a fleshy thing for every week she's working when you can make a larger up front investment, but no wages, and eliminate the "My little biwwy's teacher is X and he can't learn Y because Z is too distracting" instances.

Agreed. Reaching higher and higher with your abilities as a Human, and not a biological computer, feels good enough for me. I'd much rather take comfort in knowing whatever I've learned is solidified in me by pure experience and skill - genuine.

That's too bad, but jobs are always lost when technology advances.
The possibility for unwanted manipulation is more than a little frightening. If this ever becomes commercially possible, I hope that unwanted manipulation becomes a crime against humanity, or something. I doubt it will, though.
