Terrible parenting story of the day: Mom left her 5 children alone while she went out with her boyfr

You should be ashamed of yourself, Pretiacruento. Labeling someone a "terrible parent" simply because you disagree with their parenting methods. She left her kids alone for a mere five hours, one of the kids were 9 years old and at that age you are generally prefectly able to take care of yourself. Besides, trusting your children is a sign of good parenthood.

I just don't think leaving kids that young completely alone is a good idea, that's all.

There's a difference between the grade of responsibility a 9-year-old kid can handle. Taking care of himself is one thing, but taking care of 2 toddlers, aged 1 and 2 years old, is too much IMHO.

I agree, but that's ok when you're 14 or 15--and after you show signs of being a responsible older brother and you earn the trust of your parents (more importantly). Doing that to a kid at the age of 9 is just wrong.

By then he will need to have learnt everything from locking his front door to cooking, cleaning, washing clothes, keep track of their economy etc. This is why you must give your kids more responsibility than just leaving him 5 hours IF they shown signs of being responsible when they're 15 years old. Honestly, leave them for a weekend even if they haven't shown signs of being responsible, because they'll need to have that experience regardless.
24 and 5 kids already? And one of them is 9?
You'd guess that having a kid at the age of 15 would stop you from having any more what with the problems teen pregnancy brings.
I am mystified by the idea that someone could have a child at the age of 15, possibly 14, and have another a year later. And not stop there.
Otherwise this isn't the worst thing in the world
While I don't think the mother is terrible for doing this, I'm willing to compromise and have a court order for her to wear a condom because she fucks like a rabbit.

After the second kid it appears she took a four year break.
Compared to the other stories of terrible parenting stories, this one hardly seems bad.

what's she gonna put it on, her finger?

First child at 15, most recent at 23. 5 Total.
And she's still dating men?!

My point exactly. That's why I'm 110% sure she's a shit mother, hence why I sound mad at her.
Like I said, luckily nothing happened this time, but I'm sure if something happened to any of those kids, FP will hop on the rage train (conducted by me) in a heartbeat.

Heh, thanks ;D
Honestly, leaving five kids at home when the oldest in only 9 for five hours late at night without notifying anybody isn't the smartest idea.
Sure nothing bad did happen, but seriously what if something actually happened?
You can't rely on a 9 year old to do something if something catastrophical actually happens, and with 5 kids under the age of 10, that's not impossible.
Who are you to label her? You wouldn't even dare to leave a 10-year old alone for a few hours. I'm sure your parenting methods will result in your children being tethered or dependant upon you if you refuse to give them the experience of being alone for a few hours, which they will need when they are adults.

All kids cannot decide when it's time to call 911 though.
All kids cannot decide when it's time to call 911 though.
But if nine-year olds generally know how and when to call 911 then you can't say leaving them alone is generally a bad idea.

They still talk to strangers even if they are told strictly not to.
A 9 year old has no fear, you can see this in how they learn to roller blade so quickly. They don't understand that they can get seriously hurt from things. They generally don't understand death or what could happen to them if an adult tried to hurt them.
You can't say that they generally know when to call emergency services. A lot of children simply wouldn't understand when things were gong wrong.

Not necessarily.
It would depend on where you live and what you've been though. I know that when I was 9 I didn't care about most of those things.

I know I constantly feared death after seeing tornados on TV when I was 8-9. When I was 9 I also got my home key so I could go home from school. After I got home from school I was always alone for some hours because my parents were working. This was good for me because I learned how to do things on my own without the help of my parents.

See, I had a house key when I was 12. I was always at my grandparents place after school until I was picked up by my mum. I didn't get a mobile phone until then either.
Every one is different.
They still talk to strangers even if they are told strictly not to.
When I was 7 or 8, I was always told not to talk to strangers, so when I was walking through town and some police officers asked me if I was lost and where my parents were, I refused to talk to them.
I walked 20 minutes to and from school every day from the time I was 8, had keys too.
If she raised her kids well there's nothing wrong
If she raised her kids well there's nothing wrong
Which she probably didn't, she had her first child when she was 15 and now decided to leave them home alone. 2 examples of why she probably isn't the most careful parent.
Not as terrible as usual, but still lacks common sense.

Sure, but not when they're fucking 8 and 9 years old and it's for five hours extremely late at night.
