Why should we not have the right to do whatever we want with an item that we legally own?
Does that include hacking into the OS and ruining things for everybody? Does it? Because I really do not see why you people support them. Yes you own the console but it wasn't made by you and the creators would still like to maintain their product the way they intended to.
The same thing happens with cell phones. For instance, I own a Samsung Moment through Sprint. Now, you can root Android phones to make them have different themes, fonts, programs etc. Google says Android is open sourced, and they love the rooting community, but Samsung goes "If you root your phone, you void the warranty and such.". Why? I'm not physically changing anything about the phone. I bought it, and you (Samsung) created it. So why can I not make it my own? Am I not within my own right to do so? This whole thing with the PS3 is legitimate in my eyes. People payed for the product, therefore, they should be allowed to do what they want with it.
What a fat nerd.
Please get the fuck out.
*crosses fingers* ps4!!! ps4!!! ps4!!!

It is my property and I can choose to do with my property what I wish.

And without the creators you wouldn't have a console to begin with. So show some god damned appreciation. It's like you don't even know how fucking hard it is to develop software, let alone a whole console.

Not everyone who wants an open console prefers to use it to hack in games or ban players.
I wonder what would happen if Sony said fuck it and re-added OtherOS. I know the chances are slim to none but its still a fun "what if."
[editline]9th March 2011[/editline] I swear he was listening to this when he wrote that statement.
I wonder what would happen if Sony said fuck it and re-added OtherOS. I know the chances are slim to none but its still a fun "what if."
Nothing would change. The hackers will still hack because of what they think is "right", while Sony will do what they think is "right". In this case, no side is right. They both made mistakes and honestly, it will boil down to who has the cash to keep fighting.

Why can't I do the same for technology?
That's like saying I bought a key so now I have the right to go and scratch all the parked cars because I can do whatever I want with my LEGAL PROPERTY.
Exactly the point. What you do with your property is your own business.
Grammar =/= programming. Also, his grammar is fine, but his spelling is not.
Isn't that exactly what programming is?
If iI spend £10,000 on a car I can modify it as i wish. Why can't I do the same for technology?
Because modifying a car to make it run differently is totally the same as making a console able to run unauthorized software.
a product is a product and consumer's rights are listed in the agreements you check off saying you read and agree to when you turn the product on for the first time. you know, an end user license agreement? that thing that pretty much all things electronics have, software and hardware?
I didn't agree to not use exploits to improve the usability of the console [editline]9th March 2011[/editline]
Because modifying a car to make it run differently is totally the same as making a console able to run unauthorized software.
it is
There should be a movie about this man
That's like saying I bought a key so now I have the right to go and scratch all the parked cars because I can do whatever I want with my LEGAL PROPERTY.
How is that even an analogy? In my situation I'm modifying something I own in my own home, in your situation you're vandalizing other people's property. The PS3 isn't Sony's property anymore the minute I buy it so I can do whatever I want with it.
And without the creators you wouldn't have a console to begin with. Just stop posting you are making a massive fool of yourself.
Just stop posting you are making a massive fool of yourself.
Says the guy who's been perma'd twice on account of being a horrible poster.

As in gaining access to peoples profiles and modifying them. And I said that you are not appreciating your console. Saying that the hackers who are basically ruining the console have every right to do so and the ones who made the console are assholes. Saying that I should stop posting isn't exactly a good argument. Then again, I do not feel like discussing it further with you since you are clearly only going to respond with insults.
I am talking about the people who use these exploits to ruin other peoples experience.
And I said that you are not appreciating your console. Saying that the hackers who are basically ruining the console have every right to do so and the ones who made the console are assholes.
The console isn't ruined. As a matter of fact my PS3 system is on official firmware right now and running fine, hackers haven't done anything to it. I can play games and everything! Boy howdy!
Saying that I should stop posting isn't exactly a good argument. Then again, I do not feel like discussing it further with you since you are clearly only going to respond with insults.
You don't feel like discussing it further because you don't have a leg to stand on, you mean.
Says the person who paid money for someone's title
Chip-in broseph. Don't blindly assume shit. Honestly, telling people to 'stop posting' doesn't make you win an argument, quite the opposite.
When did anyone gain access to other people's profiles? That never happened.
I distinctly remember a group of PS3 hackers saying they had a tool with which they could ban or unban any console they wanted.
You don't feel like discussing it further because you don't have a leg to stand on, you mean.
And you're saying he's making a fool of himself? Ad Hominem also doesn't make you win an argument, you know.
Ugh, this isn't news. It's a CPU reset line for dumping LV2 off of 3.15. This is basically what geohot did years ago you n00bs.
Chip-in broseph. Don't blindly assume shit.
I didn't assume anything. It's right there in your event log. You bought a title.
Honestly, telling people to 'stop posting' doesn't make you win an argument, quite the opposite.
Stop posting
I distinctly remember a group of PS3 hackers saying they had a tool with which they could ban or unban any console they wanted.
And it never happened.
And you're saying he's making a fool of himself?
Well he's taking the stance against consumer protection laws and siding with a corporation instead, so yeah he's quite foolish.
When did anyone gain access to other people's profiles? That never happened. The console isn't ruined. They are reaching the ability to gain access. Or so it seems by the reports so far. Do you just sit here bashing everyone who disagrees with you? It is just as simple as me not liking how some people are trying to ruin the console by claiming that it is their civil right to do so. I don't care about what you do with your console as an individual but if people attempt to ruin other peoples experience, including mine, then yes. I do care. [editline]9th March 2011[/editline]
I didn't assume anything. It's right there in your event log. You bought a title. Stop posting And it never happened. Well he's taking the stance against consumer protection laws and siding with a corporation instead, so yeah he's quite foolish.
Maybe because without the corporation I wouldn't have a console to begin with. OtherOS shouldn't have been removed in the first place which is a shame for those who enjoyed using it. But respond like this isn't going to help.
I have my opinions but clearly you will just sit there and bash them.
Yes that's what arguing is
They are reaching the ability to gain access. Or so it seems by the reports so far.
So your entire argument is based on an event that didn't happen yet and likely won't now that Sony knows every trick the hackers have. That's intelligent.
Do you just sit here bashing everyone who disagrees with you?
If you don't want your opinions to be challenged perhaps you should stop putting them on a discussion forum?
It is just as simple as me not liking how some people are trying to ruin the console by claiming that it is their civil right to do so. I do care.
They're not "trying to ruin the console", you're just attacking straw men. Hackers want to open up the system they bought so they can dick around on it however they please. This was already deemed legal in regards to smartphones so why should a game console be any different? Nobody is ruining your experience you drama queen. Only one ruining someone's experience is Sony, who illegally removed an advertised feature.

Thus showing how competent you really are. I can't really respond without sinking down to your level and besides, then the wheel would just turn around again with you calling me an idiot and blah blah. I will stand by my opinion and you can stick to yours.
Yes that's what arguing is
There's a difference between calling someone a fool and presenting valid counter-arguments.
Only one ruining someone's experience is Sony, who illegally removed an advertised feature.
Because being able to run Linux on your PS3 was so damn essential to the thing. Their software, they can remove said feature. Besides, they're not advertising it anymore, are they?
Because being able to run Linux on your PS3 was so damn essential to the thing. Their software, they can remove said feature. Besides, they're not advertising it anymore, are they?
Did you see what the Air Force did with it? Also it doesn't matter if its essential or not its the principle of not being pushed around by a big company. Look at what Nintendo is doing with the 3DS they are going to disable the thing if you pirate and or use homebrew. Do you think its far they can disable something you paid for? Do you think you should just let the big company's own everything and you own nothing?
