If you mean when each game was created, that's one thing; Final Fantasy II and III (2 and 3) here in the U.S., were IV and VI (4 and 6) in Japan. If you think all of the games are actually connected, then they're not. Dunno why they use a sequel-like numbering system, but each of the games are all self-contained aside from things like Final Fantasy 4's sequel, 7's extra games and movies of both prequels and sequels, 10-2's semi-sequel, and 13-2's sequel. Dissidia, the handheld fighter, did do a little bit of retconning and combining, but it's pointless to try and think of the entire main series as direct sequels or such. :v:
It should be looked at as completely different games with three similar themes: A hero, a villain, and a wise character called Cid.
FF7 was added to the steam registry some time ago ago, so this is possible. [editline]21st June 2012[/editline] http://cdr.thebronasium.com/app/search/Search.name:Final%20Fantasy
Whereabouts on that article does it state it's coming to steam? I've read over it, and it doesn't state "steam" or "valve" anywhere. I'm not 100% sure, but doesn't valve require a game to use steamworks before it can have cloud saves? And I don't see "steamworks" as one of those features.

But still, there is the matter of the Steam FF7 Registry entry from last year.
Or FFX for a healthy mix of the two.
Or FF1 for medieval mayhem.
It should be looked at as completely different games with three similar themes: A hero, a villain, and a wise character called Cid.
Well, early on they did a lot of plot and design rehashing. Final Fantasy 3 had a huge emphasis on crystals, warriors of light and dark, and so forth, and a couple of games have recycled these things. Final Fantasy 5 takes the exact same plot elements and runs with them, even using the same job changing system and improving upon it. And 5's antagonist, Exdeath, looked like Golbez from 4. And was an evil, demonic, interdimensional tree. there's a reason why people don't take 5 seriously when it comes to plot, and it isn't just because of "MORPHIN' TIME" gilgamesh.
always thought FF looked really stupid and terrible but reserved actual gameplay judgement can someone explain FF to me? exactly? I'm looking to try something fresh but, even though I'm likely not getting FF now, just wondering if it's something worth getting in the future.
Basically, Old FF games were good, new ones are bad. Get the older games.
Basically, Old FF games were good, new ones are bad. Get the older games.
I hope they aged well. I know games like KOTOR and farcry are pure classics but their age makes it a little harder to play.
I hope they aged well. I know games like KOTOR and farcry are pure classics but their age makes it a little harder to play.
I can't speak for VII or earlier but IX and X have aged exceptionally well.
I can't speak for VII or earlier but IX and X have aged exceptionally well.
Maybe it's my nostalgia speaking but I feel that VII aged very well too. You just have to get over the fact that outside combat sequences and cutscenes, the characters are ugly as shit.

Just get the already existing PC version, give it a few mods and you're set
I still have the original boxed version and it works pretty damn well on the whole, after a simple patch. If they tarted up the graphics, added in some achievements and online crap and fixed the magic defense bug I'd buy it instantly!

I hope this comes out to boost the hype of Final Fantasy VII Reamke or New FFVII(game/movie) and also this Theme is PURE Badass Edit: what are people disagreeng with the Song or the fact I would like a New FF7 game or the fact I would like a Rmake.?

Please be real.
Oh god, I can't even imagine the dreadful terror I will see when Valve decides to make promotional TF2 items for it
Scout gets a buster sword. Heavy gets a machine gun arm.
Maybe it's my nostalgia speaking but I feel that VII aged very well too.
Basically, Old FF games were good, new ones are bad. Get the older games.
X is great. Crisis Core is pretty decent too, apart from it not being a standout game. And oddly enough, I really enjoyed XIII. Sure, the dialogue is terrible, but the plot is interesting enough, the characters are fun (If 2D as hell). The real thing that made XIII for me was the combat, if you like FF for the combat, XIII probably has the best system of the games imo. It's very fast with tonnes of depth. Crystal Chronicals, XII and X-2... very much marmite.
Scout gets a buster sword. Heavy gets a machine gun arm. Ugly as shit? No sir! Maybe it's just me, but unless I've played an old game before when it first came out, I have a harder time getting over the graphical differences. It's not that I'm a graphics whore, but it's definitely a big difference.
Call me pessimistic, but that sounds suspiciously like a microtransaction...
To be honest, I wouldn't mind It's a single player game. If other players want to spoil their experience by paying their way out, then so be it. I shouldn't be affected.
isn't it rare as fuck?
it could cost like $100 on Ebay so yes
Just get the already existing PC version, give it a few mods and you're set
I've looked into that, and most of the BOOTLEG installer-supported mods are pretty jarring, especially the model replacements. I'd just roll with the PSF-music (original console music format instead of the ugly MIDI-music) and enjoy the dated, but at least consistent, graphics.
isn't it rare as fuck?
Really? I've got a copy upstairs. Borrowed it from my Uncle years ago but he didn't want it back.
FFVII was a shitty port, though. The controls were shit, and they cut the background resolution in half. At 640x480, the game looked like shit in comparison to the original. I hope they actually did it right this time.

The music was also in MIDI format, and sounded very tinny and shit compared to the PS1's.
FF VII was one of the good ones, looking forward to this!
This is pretty cool news, but I'm still waiting for an update to V and VI. Or, while we're at it, a localization for Secret of Mana 2. TF2 items should include a universal Cloud hairpiece, and a small Cait Sith doll that hangs off of the player (or as a hat).

PSX runs at 320x240 so that's the resolution of the background images, however the PC version runs at 640x480 by default so the backgrounds will look lower res than the characters.
