Apple finally unveils completely redesigned iOS 7 - RIP skeuomorphism

Thank fuck but I think they could seriously work on those icons
[editline]10th June 2013[/editline]
I actually love the whole design though, it reminds me of Windows Phone mashed with Android Holo, the multi-tasking menu is exactly like Windows Phone though but I think Microsoft and Apple have some tight agreements to make sure they never go to court because of how Bill Gates and Steve Jobs were the best of friends
i could jailbreak and get the same look no thanks
Same here. I'm really looking forward to the update!
This forum is really biased against Apple. I'm sure you can find things that are a bit like another device. I'm sure your android can do the same thing if you install a specific ROM and then install a specific theme. But I'm also sure that if it wasn't for the iPhone we would all still be using these.

What a surprise to see you glorifying Apple, Garry.
I don't care if you or anyone prefers Apple, in fact I applaud market diversity.
But I'd appreciate if people could be a little bit more realistic about what Apple is.
They build great products, but they're not the sole innovators in the market.
In fact their business is mostly based on BUYING technology and then combining it.
There were several prototypes with a single touchscreen announced before the iPhone was launched.
I don't care WHAT anyone prefers but please prefer for valid reasons. Even if you say "Well I just don't WANT to like Android because everyone I think is cool has an Apple" that's a valid reason to me. But don't go making up arguments either blowing Apple's dick or stomping Android into the ground, which just isn't realistic and necessairy.

there's nothing wrong with liking apple lol
I like the new redesign, not as much as Jelly Bean but it's still a step forward from the old nightmare ugly look.

We all know that's not true, there were other phones in development that had similar featuresets to the iphone before the iphone came out, whether or not they sped up the smartphone market is surely up for debate and likely true, but it's nonsense bonkers to think that apple is the only reason we have advanced phones.

Yeah you're right. I accidentally posted before I finished.
Please re-read. Also the dumbrating from MegaMan was from before I retyped.
the iphone caused major design changes (not that what they came up with was completely original) since it was so popular. other companies look at apple at times and say 'hey, they're doing well with x product, let's start adapting that type of design'

Is one of your conditions sociopathy? Jobs treated his friends pretty awfully. He was really lucky Wozniak was so nice to him.

Even Microsoft had a few, but they were targeted stereotypical business people, so guess how they fared.

I wouldn't mind if everybody were still using normal cell phones.

TBH Woz seems like kind of a push-over

^^ YYOOOUUUU SONOFABITCH!! ^^
Most of my apps on my iTouch are now going to look really out of place now

nah, i'm talking about design perspective and perfectionism. i'm not mean like that, he was definitely a fucking dick
[editline]10th June 2013[/editline]
wozniak was way too good for him. really wish wozniak ended up running the company since he deserved it more
Starting to look more like android now.
This. Exactly this. All over the shop floor.

Again, you're making Apple sound like more of an innovator then they were.
Small touchscreens were already being used, the only logical next step was to make a phone with just one touchscreen and a big one at it.
You're making it sounds like Apple came up with the one big screen concept and then everyone said "oh lets make that too!"
wozniak was way too good for him. really wish wozniak ended up running the company since he deserved it more
Ehh, Woz doesn't really seem to have a business sense, but he definitely should've ditched Jobs early on and started something computer related with someone else who does (not Billy G)
It's so inconsistent, I don't like it at all.
I'd take the old 2004 look over this.
[editline]10th June 2013[/editline]
The gradients remind me of some kind of Vista mixed with Windows 8 abortion

uh, no i'm not lol
i said (not that what they came up with was completely original)
nothing they really do is original, they steal shit all the time
they just popularize it since they're, well, popular
fucking hideous
It's as if Windows Phone and Android had a special little child.
Now abort it.
I really like it. It's a little too bright for me, as I've been trying to stick to a darker black/grey/white design, but it's not bad at all.
I'll stick with Glasklart until I upgrade to the iPhone 5, though. It's sleek enough for me. The new design is just too white for the black iPhone - would look great with a white one, though.
[t]http://modmyi.com/images/nickhesson/glasklarthd.jpg[/t]
The new settings screen is totally useless to me - I just use NCSettings on my Notifications bar. I use Auxo as my task switcher, which also gives me better music controls and toggles in the switcher menu. My lockscreen has the weather up there with the time, and can be swiped to view the forecast, plus I can start up 6 different apps directly from the lockscreen with Atom.
It's a nice design, but my jailbroken phone still has a more cohesive one. It's still way too colorful for me. The weird transparency on the settings bar makes it look all rainbow-splotchy when it goes over the icons, which just looks terrible. Skeumorphism gone is fantastic, and a unified non-glossy icon design is a long-overdue addition, but it's just so fucking fisher-pricey still. I was really hoping they'd keep moving to the OSX-style black-and-white that they put onto the Music app and the App Store - sleek, dual-tone, simplistic, easy on the eyes. Too rainbowy. Too bright. Too thin. Don't like.
Holy fuck do not want. Looks like they couldn't decide on a color scheme so they just said screw it, use ALL the colors.
Wow that looks really awful. I'm going to delay updating for as long as possible.
Let's hope that it's jailbroken quickly. I'd happily change if I could thicken the text to old Helvetica and get rid of that god-awful settings bar translucency. The features make it a worthwhile upgrade, but christ it's so bright and ugly. I mostly use my phone at night and I always have the brightness turned down to minimum, but a plain white screen like the Music app's selection menus are still so fucking bright even with f.lux jailbroken on. Very unhappy with it. Should've brought iOS closer to OSX, not a total redesign and the opposite.
[editline]10th June 2013[/editline]
Also Photos and Game Center are fucking atrocious, who designed those icons? I know amateur graphics designers who could make better icons. The photos icon looks like a not-so-subtle Flickr plug. Game Center's just a bunch of random round blobs that says nothing about the app.
Goddamn it, apple. You should know that consistency is important. Letting someone know what an app is for by looking at the icon is incredibly important. Music? Music note. Messages? Speech bubble. Phone? Phone. Contacts? address book. App store has a unified design across apple products, and the circle signified that it's a store where shit can be purchased - as both iTunes and App Store have the circle, which demonstrates some sort of consistency. Calendar's obvious, Reminders is a checklist, Mail's an envelope.
The only ones where they weren't super obvious was Photos (a sunflower? ok). Game Center was obvious even though the icon was shit. Chess piece on a checkerboard, rocket ship, etc. Game stuff. Now it's blobs. Photos is a wheel of random colors. Those are things you use for a 90's company logo, not to represent a specific generic program. Awful design choice on those two icons.
Personally, I think it looks like shit. Especially this:

What in the fuck is that? Yuck.
.
Wow Android copies Apple so much they went ahead in time and copied this before Apple even announced it!
Honestly, while the weird haze over the control panel is the ugliest thing in the world, I'm really liking the pastel colours.
Skeumorphism got old but I actually liked it.
Not sure about the new UI. Some elements look great, others are meh
Apple should've just taken a hint from some jailbreak apps that fixed the god-awful designs of the last iOS versions. This redesign has just as many problems as the old skeumorphic one does. The icons still aren't actually flat, they're differently shaded, and it's just a clusterfuck of pastel colors and poor design decisions. The more I look at it the more I dislike it.
