When I worked in a supermarket bakery last year, we threw out 20+ lbs of buns and bread every day. They had been made in the morning and we don't sell day-old shit, so it went right into the trash compactor. Best part about this is, our store had been asked if they could give anything to the local shelter and THEY SAID NO.

I work in a produce department and we normally throw away thousands of dollars worth of food every few days. Some of it could easily be salvaged but it all ends up in our garbage compactor.
