The game has very minimal sprites, an utter pittance of the revenue from a single day could be used to hire any amateur artist to replace them completely. This isn't because of hiding from lawsuits guys, the dude really doesn't like all the attention. If he was in this for some quick cash grab n run (besides the fact that the random success of it makes it completely impossible for him to either have intended or planned) he wouldn't have used generic Mario sprites in the first place. I don't get all the cynicism regarding this dude. He made some generic game in a few days and it happened to go big randomly. He doesn't like the attention and as a result turned down the possibility of making shitloads more money off this thing and remaining safe legally by simply replacing the sprites (the legal aspect isn't totally that simple but it's still not complicated or risky enough to warrant ditching the game for that reason alone. There is no reason to hate this guy so far at all.

Maybe he just got approached with the option to either A. Get sued or B. Take it down, give x% of profit to Nintendo or whatever party and sign a document saying you won't mention it to anyone saying you simply don't want it any more. I mean he seems like a down to earth guy, And I'd think most people in that situation would at least try to do something useful with the money. I mean he lives in a rather poor country, wouldn't he rather help the people around him then to stop accepting money whatsoever?
