Not the steamid
Now he feels more stupid :downs:
Oh god I need to pay attention, I just figured it out :downs:
Yay no more pirates. However, there is one flaw. People who pirated gmod could ask their friend who has their account verified to upload the addon to a filesharing website and they can get the addon there.
The pirates can also use other less popular gmod addon sites. This isn't a 100% solution, but it will stop about 98% of the pirates that use garrysmod.org.
GMod 9 was 7 years ago.
Isn't it only 6? GMod 9 was in the ending of 2004 wasn't it? Duhh arguing the creation date with the creator, it's a failproof argument. It's not garry's problem if they reupload it somewhere else.
I don't want to have to add some shit to my profile to verify I own Garry's Mod. We only have to do this once though, I assume?
Don't be lazy. It takes literally 2 minutes to do, and then you're done.
brb activating account... But really is this nescessary ?
This is a good change imo, my answer is a big YES.
I support this, but I foresee a problem: What if your account gets banned? Can we register the game to multiple garrysmod.org accounts or do we have to buy the game all over again? You see, a while back I was banned. No reason given, still have no idea why. I was fine with it, since I just made a new account and continued as usual. If that happened today, and I had to go buy the game again, I would be pissed. Possibly pissed enough to sue. So while I support this change in theory, it will need at least more transparency in the banning process.
This is an example of good anti-piracy measures. I'm sure pirates will eventually get the big add-ons but this cuts off a lot of content for them. Good job.

Wow, that was easy. I'm glad about this, I despise pirates who steal from independent game developers.
Wow, people who actually paid now get fucked in their assets by thissteam community drm.
hey. Cry about it.
I like the change. The only people crying are pirates and idiots. And to those who are saying yeah, what if people share accounts, well I daresay some sort of system can be implemented where if too many IP ranges log in to a single account, it can be automatically banned (or set to be under review). Just food for thought, but yeah. It's a nice and easy system. Was done in under 30 seconds.
It's not 100% proof though the svn link list on the wiki is still available, all you need is a svn client
Using the SVN version doesn't magically buy you the game.

This is cool and all but can't someone just use someones account who already has the code posted in?
This is cool and all but can't someone just use someones account who already has the code posted in?
How many times has this issure been brought up already?
Well that's just dumb, you can use a friend who has GMod.
So people are going to start using third-party sites now, right?
Only the pirates.
How come I have to verify every time? Can't it save that I verified my account?
yeah that's an issue, I went to the garrysmod.org, and I didn't get a pop up or anything saying "do you own gmod?" or something ... how do I verify?
Awesome
I can't understand why some idiots would pirate Gmod. It's clearly 10€ worth.
It only took me about 30 seconds to do. It's not hard, and it'll stifle the flow of pirates considerably.
Yar Har Fiddle de FUCK WE'RE GOING DOWN A WATERFALL
Who the hell pirates a £5 game like GMod. It's the best fiver I've ever spent in my entire life, and has given me literally months of fun (My hours played total is something like 3.4 months)
Excellent. Time to create a garrysmod.org account and make a proper registration.
Only people that are butthurt about this, are the ones that either pirated Gmod, or still use Gmod9
