Atheists are a smaller group than Religion as a whole and if atheists truely believe in Universalism then they should suck it up and stop acting selfish.
Im just rambling and I dont really know how to explain what I am feeling to a forum full of atheiststic 15 year olds rebeling against their parents, but I wish people would just shut up about religion all together atheists and religious people alike.
Some FPers may indeed be 15 year old atheists rebelling against their parents. If that is the reason why they support this, than that is retarded. If, however, people support this ruling because it enforces the constitutional demand that church and state remain separate, then you are supporting it for the right reasons. As you can see in the article, even many believers support this ruling.
Uh, because a government incorporating values from an unfounded and biased source when the document establishing the government explicitly states that they shouldn't is a violation of basic rights.
The government recognizes the cultural aspect of religion by allowing everyone to practice as they please. However, when the government begins to include religion in law they're promoting it, which is a big slap in the face for non-religious people.
Because they want to respect both groups they remain separate.
This man gets it. By not supporting or defaming any belief, the government is in fact supporting ALL beliefs.
Except you make some of the most horrific generalizations I've ever seen, and you seem to think that we think that you're all uneducated red necks.
If you had paid attention, you would have noticed he said he is agnostic. Granted, agnosticism is a pretty diverse platform for belief that certainly doesn't preclude you from being a Christian or even an atheist, but it won't make you very popular with either group. To give you an example, I am more of an atheistic agnostic myself, in that I believe there is no god, but that even if there was, there would be no way to prove it. I could also throw Christianity's arguments for the existence of a god right in their faces through other agnostic ways of thought, but that doesn't belong in this thread.
Despite speaking as a Canadian, I think this is a good and important step: religion has NO place in politics.
