There's been talk over how the UK riotershave been using BBM as a means to organize the troublemaking that's plagued London and UK cities the last three nights. In an act of retaliation, RIM's Inside BlackBerry blog's been hacked.Calling themselves "TeaMp0isoN," the hackers claim they did it because they opposed RIM helping the UK policeforce to identify rioters using their BBM messaging service, writing in a statement to RIM that: "You Will _NOT_ assist the UK Police because if u do innocent members of the public who were at the wrong place at the wrong time and owned a blackberry will get charged for no reason at all, the Police are looking to arrest as many people as possible to save themselves from embarrassment…. if you do assist the police by giving them chat logs, gps locations, customer information & access to peoples BlackBerryMessengers you will regret it, we have access to your database which includes your employees information; e.g – Addresses, Names, Phone Numbers etc. – now if u assist the police, we _WILL_ make this information public and pass it onto rioters…. do you really want a bunch of angry youths on your employees doorsteps? Think about it…. and don't think that the police will protect your employees, the police can't protect themselves let alone protect others….. if you make the wrong choice your database will be made public, save yourself the embarrassment and make the right choice. don't be a puppet.. p.s – we do not condone in innocent people being attacked in these riots nor do we condone in small businesses being looted, but we are all for the rioters that are engaging in attacks on the police and government…. and before anyone says "the blackberry employees are innocent" no they are not! They are the ones that would be assisting the police." While other social networking sites such as Twitter and Facebook have been used to either help organize riots or merely gloat over their looted goodies, RIM has received much of the blame. This could be attributed to the fact that BBM messages are free and private to send—or simply because 37 per cent of 16 - 24 year olds in the UK own a BlackBerry, according to Ofcom. Ahhh, idiots. Prevent a legal act by threatening an illegal one. Great way to help your cause dipshits.
Sweet, extortion. That's sort of a crime way worse than stealing the database in the first place.
God these people are stupid anarchist dipshits.
Wow what, "Don't bring anyone to justice!!". It'll be fairly clear who would be to blame if they sent a BBM like "I GOT A FREE TOASTER!!!" instead of "holy shit my cars on fire come help"
Moreover, wouldn't most of RIM's employees they know about be Canadian anyways? The company's based in Waterloo, it's an ocean away from the riots, and police here wouldn't sit on their ass if riots started here to try and burn the RIM campus down, especially since it's right next to the University of Waterloo, one of Canada's most renowned engineering schools.
Every time I watch a video of the "rioters" in the UK my blood begins to boil. It's a good therapy to get out all the mad from your system. CAUSE YOU WILL RELEASE A LOT OF IT. [editline]9th August 2011[/editline] fucking punk scum [editline]9th August 2011[/editline]
Ahhh, idiots. Prevent a legal act by threatening an illegal one. did these people just insinuate that by simply working for blackberry that all those people deserve to be killed by rioters?
"TeaMp0isoN" Now that's as "12 year old" as you can get. I don't see the point, they're as bad as the rioters themselves by threatening to put innocent people at danger.
Who or what the fuck is a RIM?
Who or what the fuck is a RIM?
You live under a rock or something? Oh wait, IOS user.
Who or what the fuck is a RIM?
Research In Motion, the creators of BlackBerry.
if u do innocent members of the public who were at the wrong place at the wrong time and owned a blackberry will get charged for no reason at all
I am pretty sure that they will, oh I don't know, read the content of the messages.
we _WILL_ make this information public and pass it onto rioters…. do you really want a bunch of angry youths on your employees doorsteps?
I am pretty sure the rioters would not bother flying to Canada to threaten a RIM employee who may or may not have been involved in the sharing of the information which may or may not have been used in charging people. Only a few people involved in the riots are actually the "leaders" the rest are just following it. Example: Vancouver riots.
and don't think that the police will protect your employees, the police can't protect themselves let alone protect others…
If someone starts threatening, or planning to do people harm it becomes quite the different issue. Actually causing harm is a whole other story
if you make the wrong choice your database will be made public, save yourself the embarrassment and make the right choice.
How is that an embarrassment on their part? It would be more of an embarrassment if they did not help the police and get more blame, perhaps even legal charges, put on them.
don't be a puppet.
I read this as "don't do the right thing"
and before anyone says "the blackberry employees are innocent" no they are not! They are the ones that would be assisting the police."
What about the janitors? :downs: I feel this is written in the voice of the kid who would say "I'm telling...." whenever someone did something they did not like.
TeaMp0isoN are alright but I disagree with what they're doing here, provided the messages can be read it'd be pretty easy to tell who is a rioter and who is just an innocent.
Someone's going to lose their RIM jobs...
Their phones are shit anyways. I have a Blackberry Tour. The OS is slow as fuck. It's like they want to lose business. Oh wait. Their OS is in Java. That explains it.
To be honest, RIM shouldn't be just willingly handing over private information about their customers to the police, if that's what is happening. If the police get a warrant yeah, but even then they should be fighting it.
Their phones are shit anyways. I have a Blackberry Tour. The OS is slow as fuck. It's like they want to lose business. Oh wait. Their OS is in Java. That explains it.
The entire GUI of Android is written in Java and it works fine, Java isn't the problem.

Will they give out the details of those who send me cannabis adverts through BBM? [editline]9th August 2011[/editline]
Their phones are shit anyways. Much faster than the Nokia smartphone I had previously, it's never failed me. Apart from when I cracked the screen.
Sweet, extortion. That's sort of a crime way worse than stealing the database in the first place.
Yep. Since they warned them in writing ahead of time that they would hack them. Don't know what punishment they're looking at, but there's two outcomes: $250 dollars or less worth of property damaged or lost = misdemeanor; up to 6 months in jail More than $250 dollars worth of property damaged or lost = felony; up to 15 years in prison DON'T WORRY BOYS! YOUR ASSHOLES WILL STRETCH!
