You are right. They completely do. They have every right to take a few lines of an interview out of context and suspend him.

But the rest of the family has the freedom to not film another episode and their sponsors like Under Armour and Skyjacker have every right to stick with the family and leave. As do millions of viewers have the right to not support A&E or their sponsors.

Nobody is saying they have to stay with A&E, holy shit why is this such a stick up your ass?

The guy has genuinely toxic opinions (I don't give two shits if he doesn't act on them, claiming that the mere idea of being gay is wrong is toxic), claiming black people were happier under Jim Crow laws is also massively fucking toxic. Sure he's allowed to hold these opinions, but that doesn't mean we have to tolerate them. The company are totally within their right to cut ties with someone holding such opinions. Much in the same way Fox would probably fire someone who openly approved abortion.
