However obviously outdated and flawed the plant may have been, they still weren't able to stop this accident. It happened. And it's happened before. And it will happen again.
Did you even read that before you posted it.
There were a lot of protests here in tokyo, only old men.
I dont think a country with frequent earthquakes should invest in nuclear power. We all know what can go wrong.
congradulations, you exclude south, and north america, russia, china , austrialia, the whole of europe and then east africa as well as india from all having NPPs because they have what are considered frequent earthquakes
While I agree with you that nuclear power should continued to be used, that's a flawed and naive argument.

Name a nuclear disaster that wasn't caused by preventable human incompetence.
This is Outrageous!

Every modern(ish) reactor is built to withstand the largest earthquake in known history occurring directly under it.
Things like this leave me in awe of the insane technological advancement in today's age, holy shit.
Someone find the post from the thread where the guy absolutely destroyed the anti-NPP argument and caused him to leave in shame and ridicule, I think we're going to need it

Look up, he's in this thread. It's his title.
kind of embarrassing though how he got that title for himself and quotes the line "haha oh boy here we go again" like he's just so proud of saying that
That's what I love about Estonia. We're literally the safest place to be in case of natural disasters. Nothing ever happens here. Then again... that means the landscape is about as interesting as a bag of dead dicks. Granted, we have beautiful places, but goddamn, you haven't lived until you've seen Thailand...
EH, why go to Thailand when In argentina you got all the landscapes found in the world?
(Jk, we only lack asian landscapes so yes, what you say its true)

Fukushima is my favorite example to support nuclear power because it was a shitty outdated design, got hit with an earthquake AND tsunami, and the Japanese government didn't have any contingency plans and for like a couple days were running around like headless chickens not knowing what was going on, and they STILL managed to contain the incident to what is a reasonable degree as far as nuclear incidents go
ya Fukushima just shows the level of safety that western nuclear powerplant designs have, the reactor scrammed as it was intended, the core was contained and only a few stupid decisions like storing the auxiliary power supply underground in a tsunami zone killed it, the only other problem at Fukushima was the spent fuel pool, which is a problem made by environmentalists who have forced nuclear waste to be stored on site for all nuclear reactors.
glad to see Fukushima didn't make Japan go full Germany on the issue.

While it was old, a higher seawall and proper placement of the switching stations that give the generators power.
I love when environmentalists or whoever, keep saying they want other stuff instead of nuclear power that's just as efficient and gives out just as much power.
And then I ask "Like what?". Still haven't gotten an answer.
If only we had a working fusion generator, then all this would be trivial.
fusion is pretty much the end-all-be-all of power generation, right? Can't melt down, the radioactive waste is really short lived and not very damaging, etc.

Seems like a massive money hole. Safety procedures and stuff that would make a nuke plant completely safe are expensive for such a geographically bad country, being on a tectonic plate constantly being shat on by volcanoes and other disastrous events.

currently japan is importing fossil fuels worth billions and is losing absolute shitloads of money due to the nuclear decommissioning
nuclear power is way cheaper than importing the amount of fossil fuels they need

Almost all power generation methods are profitable. Why would it be privatized if it wasn't?
