You're missing the point entirely, he was basically implying that everyone has STI's. You can't just "get" a disease, someone has to have it first.
how do you think people got it in the first place?
that's not how resistance works
It can and does actually, if a bacterium becomes resistant to something it can spread this resistance to formerly vulnerable bacteria through conjugation and plasmids which you could call ''communication''
I believe scientists are working on drugs that reduce the bacterias ability to "communicate", thus making them much less prone to become resistant to antibiotics and medications.
At about 5 mins is what I think you are talking about. It doesn't stop them becoming resistant, it stops them deploying their anti immune system toxins.
this article is horribly written. just throwing that out there.
...where does the needle go? :suicide:
it'd actually be quite efective at reducing the risk of infection if the doctors told us it had to be injected directly into your dick
Maybe we will have to start caring about where we stuff our pecker.
As long as there's alcohol, you're asking the impossible.
I use to be a STUD like U once, untill I took an STD to the bladder.
Now if only the US stopped handing out antibiotics (in general) like candy.
this happens in a lot of poorer countries too; whole system needs education
Do you? Because last I recalled it's pretty damn impossible to get an STI without having sex.
Well, contact with any of the major bodily fluids can also spread infection. Sex is just the most common vector. Take Ryan White. He got AIDS via a blood bag. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ryan_White
Someone spits in your eye or other occrifice and you're good.
Why don't we just do what we do with AIDS patents (stop giving antibiotics for a while so that the drug resistant strains no longer have an evolutionary advantage and slowly recede into evolutionary noise) except on a larger scale. While this isn't optimal in the least, it would benefit people in the future greatly. Or we could do cycles of different antibiotics (give a certain antibiotic exclusively for gonorrhea and when the majority of the infections become resistant, move on to the next antibiotic). I can't figure out why this wouldn't work, but then again I'm not even close to being an expert.
Now if only the US stopped handing out antibiotics (in general) like candy.
They don't. I couldn't get shit for my pain because too many people claim to have pain just to get drugs, and they REALLY hate prescribing penicillin for fear that it would stop being effective, so give out lousy shit like Amoxicillin
Do you know how STI's work?
A 2.5L Boxer turbo engine?
this article is horribly written. just throwing that out there.
I like how he mentions sex robots as a possible solution
They don't. I couldn't get shit for my pain because too many people claim to have pain just to get drugs, and they REALLY hate prescribing penicillin for fear that it would stop being effective, so give out lousy shit like Amoxicillin
penicillin stopped working years and years ago, pretty much everything is resistant to penicillin already. And since when are antibiotics for pain?
penicillin stopped working years and years ago, pretty much everything is resistant to penicillin already. And since when are antibiotics for pain?
Oh so that's why the americans take it for everything.
that's not how resistance works
Resistance can be transferred horizontally he's right, calling it "Communication" is wrong however. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizontal_gene_transfer
'Birth rates plummet as people everywhere become scared to get jiggy with it'
More like 'Gonorrhea is now more common than cold!'
this happens in a lot of poorer countries too; whole system needs education
Believe me, the system knows EXACTLY what it's doing.
As a ''man'' who is about to enter in to the world of sex, i find this scary.
Pfft, who needs fertile women. Test tubes! [editline]13th August 2012[/editline]
As a ''man'' who is about to enter in to the world of sex, i find this scary.
Those quote marks are awfully suspicious.
You're missing the point entirely, he was basically implying that everyone has STI's. You can't just "get" a disease, someone has to have it first.
Uh, the point was birthrates, not people having STI's. People being scared to have sex because of STI's isn't him saying people won't have STI's... I'm confused.
Resistance can be transferred horizontally he's right, calling it "Communication" is wrong however. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horizontal_gene_transfer
Horizontal gene transfer? Is that what the kids are calling it these days?
They don't. My doctor's office doesn't even give out antibiotics unless it is life threatening not to. I don't even think antibiotics are given for strep anymore, unless it's a small child.
I got antibiotics for a cyst on my forehead Eventually I had it cut out.
