Yeah and the Czech Republic used to be called Czechoslovakia but nobody refers to it as that anymore
You can argue with him about the points hes made not the naming of a country.
God damn it Ukraine, when you gonna fall off of Moscow's tit?
The majority of Ukrainians don't want any of this customs union bullshit, it's just that our government is being a bunch of cocksuckers again Plus Russia is putting some economical pressure on us. They've banned the import of most of our products, and no one except for Russia buys our stuff. So every second we're stuck between Russia and EU we are losing money.
Russia owned The Ukraine. They have a secret police, wiretap peoples phones, are rated as a broken/flawed democracy on the democracy index, their president is a criminal and ex-kgb agent, they have shitty LGBT policies, there is poor freedom of speech, their post-soviet academia is a joke (Femenko anyone?), and oligarchs run the show.
America has secret police, flawed politics (democracy is flawed), wiretap phones, oligarchs lobby to make ridiculous laws. Can't say much about the ex kgb agent thing. What jobs would you allow him to get or should that brand stay with him forever? Freedom of speech isn't great anywhere but I assure you its better now than in the ussr. I agree russia's LGBT policy is appalling but it was worse in the ussr.
You don't get it. The old regime never left. The old regime /is/ the new regime. The only difference is that they aged and the older ones retired. Russia still has the same sorts of people in power that they did forty years ago.
I disagree the regime has changed. While some of their steps (LGBT) are rediculous and archaic the majority of what they are doing is a step away from where they were 40 years ago. Russia wants the rival the EU. No country/country's leader wants their country to become insignificant. Russia wants to keep its place on the world stage and that means either joining the EU (a risk considering its current state) or making a similar structure. Todo this they need friends
