Trump's poll numbers are collapsing, GOP may abandon him if he fucks up second debate

Hillary better be prepared. If she can have a strong win then there's no chance of some stupid "comeback" for the media to parade around.
seeing the alt-right being kicked square in the balls and the republicans humiliated would be a beautiful way to end the year
This is gonna be the most fulfilling thanksgiving ever
Just a planned.
Just out of curiosity, do you think the Times is lying, or the two senior Republicans?
I'd go with Times.
Republicans wouldn't necessarily have anything to gain by doing so. Times is getting a fairly good amount of clicks out of this.
I'm not even saying this out of any political bias, I'm simply saying it's just not something that'll realistically happen. It's like Clinton getting arrested-- talked about? Sure. Actually going to happen? Nope.
And the Alt-right will probably replace it...
Considering how the entire world has shifted to the right recently, it would probably only continue to grow with Hillary.
Because then they have a single person to blame everything on again. It's pretty much guaranteed to continue shifting no matter what unfortunately.
Lol do you seriously think anyone fucking takes the alt-right seriously? Give me a break.
The nice thing is that there are fewer and fewer undecided voters, making it increasingly difficult to move the needle. Trump will have a very difficult uphill battle at his current figures. He will have to have a stellar debate performance to close the gap, and that is just not very likely. If he tanks the second debate as hard as the first, it will take nothing short of a miracle for him to recover.
I'm holding out hope that the GOP will completely reinvent itself after this year. Most likely it would be as a libertarian party (if the actual Libertarian Party couldn't capitalize on this year, they clearly aren't ready to be a Big Two party), but maybe it'll decide to stick to conservative social values but completely flip on economics, and become a Jesus Socialist party.
how would that ever work though, socially conservative but economically liberal?
"yes you may have a universal basic min wage but no drugs, sex, abortions or butt stuff and it comes with the rider that you submit to an exam every 3 weeks to get it"
wait... thats already the gop

Probably going to be the other way around. The hardcore GOP will be brushed off to the side in favor of semi-moderates who have flat out neutral or "don't care" stances on LGBT rights, migrants and drugs, but will remain staunchly pro-market.
These moderates don't have to be vocal supporters of "left wing" policies, or supporters at all, but instead just don't let those issues come up in policy

The Bible Belt will keep the GOP pumped full of social conservatives until its dying end, I suspect though. What the GOP needs is members more about the markets than the social stuff, but those GOP usually come from Democratic states and are hard to keep hold of, like the northeast.
If trump loses this debate too it's likely well see hillary jump into a double digit lead

Also I'm American, not a Canadian commie with free healthcare.

Seems like the more Trump shits the bed the more embedded they become in conspiracy theories, I think it's more likely they'll just become obscured as another element of far-right lunacy.

Lunacy implies that the moon did this. It's more over an element of far right insanity than lunacy.
Political party poll numbers are less stable then the british currency.
They should have ditched him ages ago but if it blows up the GOP and gives the dems a free election whatever.
It's mind boggling that so many big name Republicans are willing to let a guy whose defining characteristic is that he's a huge asshole who can't control himself be their candidate. He's still doing trashy celeb-tier tweets and they still haven't gone "gee ya know maybe this guy shouldn't be fucking president of the united states."

To be fair, they did everything they could to stop him. But it's hard to feel bad for them, it's ultimately their fault for doing the southern strategy for years, Trump's the end result.
I don't hope Trump loses, I hope he is utterly crushed. I hope he looses by such a staggering degree that no other Asshole with a silver tongue thinks he can play at being a top politician in the future because "hey, it kinda worked for trump!" I hope he does something so stupid, so unforgivable that his political "career" crashes and burns and he is hated by all as the fear-mongering, hateful, spiteful, xenophobic idiot that he is
But I'll settle for him to loose the election I guess
I find it very worrying that Trump is failing not for being a racist nationalist, but for being an incompetent racist nationalist. Seems likely that 2020 could go to someone just as bigoted but with slightly more self control.
suuuuuuure.
god, I somewhat hope that the GOP ditches Trump just for how entertaining it'd make the election. Still, they have far less to gain than they have to lose by ditching their candidate, it won't happen.
the problem is, he still won the primaries. he is just utterly unable to successfully reshape his image into a sane moderate alternative. he still did a lot of damage by proving that it is possible to win the party demographic and change your views to suit the general public. someone much more intelligent than trump may some day successfully pull off trump's own trick.
Hey, America, d'you hear that? I think that's the fat lady warming up her chords. We're going to hear the first strains of Walkürenritt any day now.
I am going to enjoy watching Trump on stage tomorrow. And I can hardly wait until Hillary makes him completely lose his shit.
Better get the popcorn out for this one. Shits gonna be good.
it just happened.

It's a shame, if true.
It'd have been great if he lost despite the GOP fully backing him. This just gives him an excuse now.

"I, Donald Trump, the super bigly successful billionaire, lost because the GOP didn't give me enough money."
I mean I'm sure people will buy it, but I'll still find it hilarious.

Nah, I'd rather see him defeated and with all his allies having turned on him. An utterly crushing defeat.

It would be a most crushing defeat for his most loyal cohort regardless of how much the core republican body ditches him. At its heart, however, it would always end up being the biggest defeat of Trump the Person, for nothing but his own self is leading him into demise and abandonment.

He can yammer about the game being rigged all he wants, but I'm pretty sure that regardless of the public face that he puts on, he knows, deep down in his brain's heart, that he is the world's most successful worthless fuckup.

Welp. Wish granted.

Without Trump the American alt-right is basically stuck. They may continue to get attention but it won't get them another shot at representation in the government without considerable compromise. But every conspiracy theory that the alt-right creates here will eventually find its way to Europe, where the alt-right is a somewhat more resilient.
