Why? Why just kids under 6? What happens? They could have at least gave us the gist of it in the article.
I can't wait until this 3D Trend is over.
We won't go to 2d, don't expect that.
I don't really think anyone under 6 could pick up and play a 3DS anyways.
They said "under six", not "handless", :v:
Stop whining about the 3D, you can just turn off the 3D on the 3DS anyways with a slider.
To protect them buy them a 2d image of a 3ds
Oh no, their key demographic
You may say that jokingly, but I see tons of kids around age 5-7 playing away on gameboy advances, and DS. Giving a child one is a pretty good way to keep they occupied or quite during a car trip.
I smell future lawsuits.
I can't wait until this 3D Trend is over.
I can't wait until this Console Trend is over I want to go back to arcades dammit!
i'm still buying it for mgs3 and ocarina [editline]1st January 2011[/editline] and maybe nintendogs and cats, maybe the new resident evil
I hate this new 3D trend :/
Honestly I think the 3DS is a step in the right direction, ditching those fucking glasses is the first thing that needed to be done. Now all we need is some proper use of the effect (provided by Nintendo at first) and developers will slowly begin to use it as a feature rather than a gimmick.
As long as the warning is there and it states it in the TOS/EULA, they cannot be sued.
That brings up a good question. I wonder what is going to be stated in the TOS/EULA. Other than this subject of the 3D being harmful, I wonder what else they are going to cram into that (pirating/homebrew/bricking/modding/etc).
If I ever got a 3DS I'd probably leave the 3D setting slider on a pretty low setting, to be able to enjoy the extra immersion without throwing up all over my hands.
looks liike 99% of facepunch can't use the 3ds.
I don't see why this would be limited to just children, it sounds like it should affect everyone. They didn't specify why it's only children.
I can't wait until this Console Trend is over I want to go back to arcades dammit!
Took me a while to see the sarcasm. But anyway, how do these harm kids eyes if they basically just fake real life?
Fucking stupid 3d shit. What's next? Canned cheese?
They already have canned cheese.
I saw an advertisement for 3D shampoo and later an advertisment for HD trucks. Are people really that dumb?
I blame the goofy looking glasses.
3D gaming is probably one of the least-gimmicky applications of 3d. Think about platforming games where you can't judge jumps as easily unless there's a shadow. 3DTVs, however, are a bit excessive. You have to sit directly opposite the TV, so if you want to play a game with more than 1 person you're fucked.
But 3D FPS's are even more excessive then that.
You have no idea how 3D works. That's exactly what it does, it directs a different image into each eye, tricking our brain into seeing depth where there is none.
That's not how the 3DS works though. The 3DS detects where your eyes are in relation to the screen(s) and feeds them both the same image, but the image changes depending on where your head is, giving the illusion of three dimensions.

The 3DS actually operates with tiny magic crystals and a wizard who casts a spell on you so you hallucinate seeing objects pooping out of the screen. Man you guys are dumb :downs:
3d at the moment is pretty much the equivalent of black and white tv. I guess it will improve in the future.

Target audience? 6? Most 6 year olds dont have $300 lying around, and most parents wouldnt give a 6 year old a considerably expensive piece of tech.
[editline]2nd January 2011[/editline] The 3DS is no more harmful than the other methods of 3D that are currently popular. These are all achieved through the same basic idea of getting each eye to see a separate image, it's just that the 3DS does it without glasses since it's practical on a handheld. [editline]2nd January 2011[/editline]
Parents should turn off this function if the handheld is going to be used by a child under six years of age, said Nintendo. It said the advice it had received from experts also applied to other 3D content that younger children might be exposed to. In issuing the warning, Nintendo joins Sony and Toshiba in alerting people to the ill effects that can attend watching 3D movies or playing 3D games. Sony has already said that parents should get medical advice before letting children watch 3D content on the PlayStation. Toshiba has said parents should keep an eye on children watching its TVs that can display 3D images without needing glasses. The companies have also warned that watching too much 3D content can cause adults discomfort.
The title is a bit misleading. This is about 3D in general. The effects are the same no matter the device.
It provides an image to each of your eyes, it is no different from normal sight. Bullshit.
Have you ever tried watching a 3D movie for an extended period? That shit gives you headaches.
3d is dumb
Yeah fuck that 3rd dimension we totally rely on for our vision! :argh: GOD DAMMIT, DEPTH YOU MAKE ME SO ANGRY I COULD JUST, I COULD JUST, ARRRGGHHHH!!!! [editline]1st January 2011[/editline]
Have you ever tried watching a 3D movie for an extended period?
No , you are wrong as well. everyone knows the 3DS uses captured swamp gas and weather baloons to direct 3d images directly into your soul. jeez
Shit son you may be onto something this sounds so incredibly ridiculous it must be true. I recommend you leave the country immediately as your Government may be coming for you since you uncovered this secret.
@Article: Yes and blunt force applied via a sledge hammer may be harmful to an exposed brain.
