Did you read the post or just reply blindly? Did I say water just "goes away"? No? Then don't put words into my mouth. It's a big waste of water and there are better alternatives to raise awareness for a cause. Don't know why this seems go over so many peoples heads.
Fort, you know you cant waste water, right?

A single insignificant bucket of water. We're not draining oceans here for fucks sake.
Man you guys are stupid, California is in the worst drought in its history, rivers and the such are drying up incrediblely. Now I wouldn't have a problem if it was a singe bucket a water, but tons of people are doing it. I agree that it would have be better to do a creampie since its not like we're in a drought of creampies, are we? Water is essential for life. Its easy for you guys to understand since you don't live in a drought but water holes are down on an average of 90% in Cali.
I don't see how not pouring a bucket of water on my head will help with the drought (seeing as I live on the other side of the country), so I think we should start a counterchallenge of sending a full bucket of water to California.
I still don't understand how this has anything to do with ALS considering it's a motor disease, surely a better challenge would be to have someone smack your arms to numb them then you try and do something.
Makes sense that Obama would decline, he's enough of a "human" already and him doing the challenge might make him look like he's trying too hard to be one of the people.
I feel kinda bad for the guy. People'll say tryhard if he does it, but people'll say asshole if he doesn't do it. I think he found a good middle-ground.
The challenge wastes water that can be used elsewhere. Plus it gives people the choice to either do it, or donate money. While most people, especially celebrities, will do both, there are better options for raising awareness in similar ways. Instead of water, use something else. Honestly I'd rather see most celebrities get a shaving cream pie to the face than a bucket of cold water poured on them. I'd also like to see the people participating actually talk more about ALS.
It's not like you can carry truckloads of water across the US when there's a drought somewhere.
What a waste of water, isn't there a huge fucking drought going on in California? The water could've been used there. The whole Ice Bucket Challenge is stupid.
A lot of people live in the Northeast where we have tons of water. I take a lengthy shower everyday, see people washing their cars a lot, and overall see tons of water related usage up here. What do you expect us to do, change our entire lives suddenly and send all the water across the country? All the money wasted on gas from doing that would probably cost more money than just buying people over there bottled water.
ALS is not something to fuck around with.
USA isn't a 3rd world country, so stop whining about wasting water

Weather patterns (and human effects like greenhouse gasses altering heat retention) do.

ALS is also called Lou Gehrig's disease, which is the name I heard way more of growing up.
This is worse than nec(k?)nominate
This entire thing is fucking stupid. There are a million better, less wasteful ways to raise awareness for a cause. The silver lining is that a good deal of the people doing it here in CA are getting $500 fines for wasting water. There's even a story floating around about some USC sorority getting hit with a $25,000 fine.
Jeez, you guys sound like a bunch of stuck up grumpy old guys. Its raised a shit ton of money for ALS and I bet you waste just as much a day taking a shower as these guys do. "The good thing is people are getting hit with high fines" Good lord go get laid or something [editline]18th August 2014[/editline] http://www.nytimes.com/2014/08/18/business/ice-bucket-challenge-has-raised-millions-for-als-association.html?_r=0

Guys, lets all get a bucket of water, get in our cars, and drive to the other side of the entire fucking country for the purpose of resource conservation! the whole you is stupid
it's someone pouring a relatively small bucket of water over themselves for a charity event it's going to worsen any kind of drought
Excuse me if this sounds stupid but wouldn't a lot of people pouring water around cause it evaporate and eventually come back as rain? Sure you might need a LOT of people to be doing this but you make it sound like they already are.
