Video Didn't Kill the Radio Star, but the Debit Card Is Killing the Check

I think the real main reason a lot of smaller places don't accept checks anymore is because it's a lot easier to pay with a fraudulent check than it is to pay with a fraudulent debit card.
I still use checks to pay rent and pay bills that can't be paid online.
How am I supposed to set up direct deposit with my employer without a voided check?
There's a form you can get from your bank to verify your account info for your employer. The name of it varies from bank to bank.
I don't think I've even torn one check out of my checkbook since I signed on with my credit union 4 years ago...
Never really thought about taking them out, aside to link my Paypal account to my bank account.
In the future, all cisscum will have to debit their privilege.
Good, few things are worse than being stuck in line at the grocery store behind an 80-year-old woman struggling to write a $2.95 check for a tube of toothpaste.
One of which is being stuck behind that then the person with over 50 expired credit cards, all of which he tries to use, and then after 15 minutes pulls out a 20.
Still really annoying though.
Good. Another thing that should be next to go is physical money. I don't get why everyone still loves physical money
I see people struggling to find the exact change in their wallets, or carrying round pockets full of coins
A ton of places will give you discounts for cash for various legal and illegal reasons. The latter especially being true in dodging sales tax.
I write checks for rent and if I owe someone a lot of money which happens a lot because I make stupid bets and I'm dumb and stupid
Last time I saw a Cheque was about five years ago I believe.
I only used a check a few times, to pay rent (it was a low-income apartment complex that didn't have the capability to directly withdraw from a checking account). I honestly can't remember any other time I used one besides that.
Also I used them to transfer money to someone once, but they had a Chase account, so I wrote the check, he took a picture using the app to deposit it, and then I tore it up, so I don't know if that really counts..
i give my mom a check every month to pay my phone bill and several other bills (they're cheaper on a family plan, long story...) and i've been nagging her to get a free square card reader but she would rather drive to the bank each month than pay a 2.75% fee on a $140 payment
come on mom it's just $3.85 to not go to the bank
this is a square reader btw:

I like how use really dropped off after 2000.

Does it cost her more than 3.85 to drive there and back?
I've never used a cheque even once in my life.
Closest I've come is I purchased a bank cheque to cover my bond (not the same as a cheque you write, it's a cheque written by the bank themselves, you pay them to write it for you, it's kinda weird)
cheques are still good to move large sums of money around, banks usually panic if you use your debit card to buy something for $500 and lock your account.
If a business still uses a fax machine, they'll probably still use checks.
That seems about as secure as keeping your life savings in a wet cardboard box. Debit cards and chips especially are insecure as fuck and every person I know in my immediate family has had their account and funds illegally accessed at least once in the past few years. Especially when you're in scummy parts of the city - you just don't pay with your debit card.
Checks can only be cashed by whoever is written on the check and only after payment is authorized on both ends. When it comes to moving large amounts of money I think I'll stick to checks until they make something more secure than a piece of cheese.
Except any retail establishment worth a damn isn't going to accept your check as a check anyways. They are going to take it, run it through their machine, convert it into a bank transfer and OH GOD THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT YOUR DEBIT CARD WAS DOING.
Cheques are being phased out in the UK anyway. Have been for the best part of 10 years. It cost banks money to process them (which is why when I received a £20 charge for being 85p over my limit I used one:v:), so they've all been taking a few days to process whereas a card is almost immediate.
It's just an old system that doesn't integrate with the digital system. Most that use general services regularly do Internet banking anyway.

How are you having such horrible luck with Interac?
Are you using the shady-ass ATM outside the flea market?
Because most stores make you bend over backwards, almost punishing you, if you try and pay with a check.
I use my debit card for everything no matter how small the amount. I rarely carry any kind of cash on me and even if I have some I almost never use it. Only time I've used cheques consistently was to pay rent and when getting a job.
My bank wont even give me voided checks to set up direct deposit for my job. :v:
I seriously have like 2-3 cheque books worth of cheques which will probably last me for the rest of my life unless something abnormal happens.
I don't know how you guys have never seen a check before. I'm paid in them and I know a shit ton of people around here that write checks for school functions (class fees, field trip money, etc) where at least in my area wouldn't be possible without either cash or a check
Nobody just uses them in a fucking grocery store you silly geese (except the fucking retards who try that shit now which is rarely ever)

I go to and enter my account and routing number. Simple?
The only cool thing about them is that it takes about 3 days for it to hit my account, so I can make purchases before payday with one.

Pay checks are a little different, or at least I don't consider them the same as personal checks.

I did that 3 weeks ago, and I'm still having to go in on my day off to pickup and cash my check.

Doesn't square take like 5% of that though?
honestly, fuck checks. being a cashier and having to scan those bastards in when people want to pay with them is hell because the scanner never gets it right and you always have to put it in manually and it slows everything up

I've had to wait 15 minutes in line at the register because some little old lady paid with a check, and the machine kept shitting out. The manager ended up having to fix it.

You've heard of internet banking, right? Just transfer the money to his account.

Woah shit, how many of you are using checks to pay others close to you?
fuck people who pay debit for regular shit
and fuck people even more for paying credit
i prefer to hand in 2 dollars, get my drink and change, and go
not this "slide, wait 2 hours for the machine to be a broken piece of shit, sign, repeat step two, ok now you're done thanks for wasting everyones time you fuckhole" shit
What fucking backwater hellhole do you live in where the card machines take forever?
In Seattle the transaction is instant. In the nearby city of Everett, it doesn't take longer than maybe a second, unless there's actually a technical fault at the bank or something (which is rare). Now I don't know about Seattle, but a bunch of card machines in Everett are on a goddamn phone line, and they're still fast as shit.
