I'm actually so angry about this the idea of western troops on the ground doesn't bother me.
IF it's any consolation the Kurds,NDF, and SAA have made gains up in NE Syria.

Won't matter until the "Islamic State" has a consistent retreat on all fronts.
All I was saying was that it took the US three weeks to capture all of Iraq in 2003, so if they really decided to throw everything at IS there wouldn't be any need for a "huge war" with conscription and everything like that guy was saying
TBH I'd be more under the idea of the Iraqi's allowing the Iranians, not Iranian militia or militias with Iranian commanders. But actual elements of the Iranian army assisting the ISF.
Now regardless of that if the US were to actually deploy several divisions in Iraq I'm pretty damn sure ISIS advances would either be completely halted or turned around if they knew ACTUAL US service members, armor, and logistics are in the area and not just planes they can use dust storm to hide from. Hell the last time they engaged US forces at an airbase their attack failed utterly and even one incident where ISIS was forced back 10km from where they initially began their assault. It is safe to say that if US engaged a ground ISIS would be utterly crushed and forced back into asymmetric warfare again.
The Iraq war was conventional, ISIS is not going to play by the rules, it's going to be a war fought as an asymmetric insurgency
ISIS is wanting to play some areas by being a conventional war, clearly raising their flags over areas they control, putting their symbol on every thing they possible can. When they're backed into a corner or are knowing going to be defeated IE - Areas of the Kobani Canton,Tikrit,Shingal, etc they lay massive IED traps everywhere to deny troop movements can cause civilian and military casualties.
You'd be surprised when you hear about the Baji Oil refinery falling into ISIS hands constantly but the actual result of the battle is the ISF kicking them out time and time again. It goes to show while ISIS is a damn good attacking force but their ability to hold ground against advancing forces is poor or non-existent to the extent they need to lay IED's everywhere just to slow down advancing Bluefor elements.

What would be your strategy?
Just attacking someone cause you feel like it is a sure way to lose.
this makes me a bit worried, to be honest. if things keep going this way - Daesh capturing more and more of the middle eastern area - how long until they are able to establish themselves as a real country with quite a bit of influence and power? how long until my country decides to formally declare war on that country? right now i'm 28, if things did escalate to a huge war between the US and Daesh, to the point of reinstating conscription, i'm not worried about getting drafted, but it is a concern for me. i don't think the odds of all this happening are very big at all, but it's still something i think about whenever i hear that Daesh has captured yet another city.
Mate these are a bunch of backwards goat-herders in the middle of buttfuck nowhere. Even if they did topple the Iraqi government, no one would recognize them as a legitimate power. And you wouldn't be conscripted. The U.S. has a volunteer army capable of taking out practically any conventional enemy.

Also raise up the legions, Hadriane Palmyra has been besieged by the enemy.
For the Emperor, For Rome!
Knowing incredible stuff like this from around the time of and even before the Romans is going to get destroyed for no good reason by a bunch of pathetic, disgusting thugs makes my blood boil
Meanwhile these warriors of Islam don't realize that this city was captured by the last of the four rightly guided Caliphs and did not have its ancient monuments ransacked or destroyed.

like i said, it's not much of a worry for me. it's just a thought that i have every time i see daesh capture another city or do something really horrible. mostly a "what if" thought honestly. don't see why it's so dumb to other people, everyone speculates occasionally.

Really, the only worry you should have is "What if they reach Jerusalem?" Which is:
1. Really unlikely, Iran and the U.S. Will have stopped ISIL before then, or it will have collapsed in on itself and devolved into small bands of infighting factions.
2. Even if they could defeat Iran and any other country in the Middle East, I'm less afraid of what ISIL would do and more afraid of how Israel would react if they even looked in their direction. When someone pushes Israel, they don't just shove back, they go apeshit and start hitting hard.

A loss one one front does not ensure a loss on all fronts. ISIL can make a retreat from certain fronts to regroup and lick their wounds before heading into the fray again.
and as usually UN and whole world does nothing ...
now tell me what UNESCO status etc. is for ?
if no international intervention then it purely shows all the organization we built to protect 'lives and rights'
are in fact completely useless bureaucracy ....
in ERA full of drones it seems nobody cares about convoys of fanatics driving in open plains and non complicated terrain and on major roads
don't you find it suspicious certain coalition scoring target hits all the time in Pakistan and Afghanistan but fails to do so in Syria ?

they don't want to aid Assad by striking at his enemies. Stupid, yes but it's the current US foreign policy for Syria.

They do airstrikes in Syria pretty much every day, details of each one is posted on the DOD website: http://www.defense.gov/home/features/2014/0814_iraq/Airstrikes6.html
