what's the issue on my end? the issue is that I get 12-20 FPS on the lowest settings.
One of your various other parts is probably bottlenecking you or dying, or your windows install is fucked
go through basic troubleshooting before blaming a part please
I have a 670 and I can't run GTA IV.
Bullshit, i could run it on a 5200GTX.
what's the issue on my end? the issue is that I get 12-20 FPS on the lowest settings.
What's your CPU/RAM?
Either your pc is having a huge bottleneck, or your windows installation is full of viruses and other shit.
670 and 680 are the top cards atm.
yeah, I know that. that's why I bought it. but some games, GTA IV being one of them, are just not playable on PC and never will be. there's no bottleneck. I have 8GB of RAM and an FX-8150 8 core. if I have viruses then they must be pretty half ass viruses to have the extremely specific effect of making GTA IV run poorly.
I have 8GB of RAM and an FX-8150 8 core. .
Well hardware doesn't seem to be the issue.
that's good for you. a 670 can't.
must have some real shit CPU because I can run it great on a 2047MB GeForce GTX 560 (EVGA)
but to be fair, the game has some hardcore shit optimization

no, GTA IV is just extremely poorly coded and widely recognized as such. I never blamed the 670, I can completely max out Max Payne 3 with FXAA, 8x MSAA, 8x SMAA and 32x CSAA at the same time and still maintain 130 FPS, but GTA IV is just a jackass port.
that's good for you. a 670 can't.
Yeah, you're completely right:

Oh no, wait - you're not.

I mean, if you consider the FX-8150 a ''real shit CPU'' then I'd love to know what alien planet you buy your hardware from.

I'm jealous.

I dunno man, there's must be something wrong something that were missing from you, I heard there's a particular thing you need to do on the bios, something with changing ide to ahci which would also fix problems like that in particular.
But I doubt that's the problem.
Wouldn't be the first time AMD CPU mixed with Nvidia GPU caused problems, that's why I always keep my builds either AMD/ATI or Intel/Nvidia.

never in my life have I heard of changing BIOS settings to fix a single game. I really hope this isn't true.

What happened to "a 670 can't"?
Wouldn't be the first time AMD CPU mixed with Nvidia GPU caused problems, that's why I always keep my builds either AMD/ATI or Intel/Nvidia.
I would honestly rather buy a dell than put an intel CPU in my rig. and I still have nightmares from when I used to have an ATI card. I am NEVER going back. when Nvidia starts making CPUs my life will be complete.
What happened to "a 670 can't"?
I wasn't aware nvidia had a shit list and I was on it. I thought my 670 was the same as everyone else's 670. regardless though, the original point was that the guy said a 670 can run anything but game developers are too incompetent for that statement to be true.

With your incompetence, I can imagine a bunch of things that are wrong with your PC which might prevent you from maxing out GTA IV.
I mean, if you consider the FX-8150 a ''real shit CPU'' then I'd love to know what alien planet you buy your hardware from.
Are you sure your CPU isn't downclocked to like 200 MHz in the BIOS?

who would need such ridiculously high performance
Are you sure your CPU isn't downclocked to like 200 MHz in the BIOS?
I haven't checked but my performance on max payne 3 and the witcher 2 would be quite a mystery if that were the case.
I would honestly rather buy a dell than put an intel CPU in my rig. and I still have nightmares from when I used to have an ATI card. I am NEVER going back. when Nvidia starts making CPUs my life will be complete.
Nvidia will never make CPU's because Intel products work flawlessly with there products. Can't say the same for AMD anymore.
I wasn't aware nvidia had a shit list and I was on it. I thought my 670 was the same as everyone else's 670. regardless though, the original point was that the guy said a 670 can run anything but game developers are too incompetent for that statement to be true.
Why are you assuming the GPU is the problem.
Bullshit, i could run it on a 5200GTX.
However, if you knew anything about GTA for PC, you'd know that it's incredibly varied. My friend on a 8800GTX and a C2D could run it 1080p max at 60fps, while I'm on a C2Q, 4870 and barely run medium at 720p.

Are you trolling or are you just stupid? nvidia only makes gpu's what's the point of manufacturing cpu's when intel and amd have the winning hand.
Edited:
I checked his steam account and he doesn't have any gta game.
The only guess i have is that he owns a physical copy,(doubt it) or he pirated it.
Are you trolling or are you just stupid? nvidia only makes gpu's what's the point of manufacturing cpu's when intel and amd have the winning hand.
Because with only two companies independent developers will be looking to get the winning hand? Nvidia is already doing their Project Shield deal so obviously they aren't just GPUs.

I'm not assuming. I KNOW what the problem is, and the problem is horrendous optimization. I guess it COULD be the CPU but that wouldn't prove my point any less because the point was that top of the line hardware doesn't max *everything* out without problems. no matter what your hardware is there will always be stuff you can't play.

the point would be that nvidia is better than everyone else and therefore would make superior products. I'd be extremely interested in what they could do with physx CPU integration, or integrated GPU/CPUs for laptops or compact desktops. also, you're wrong about them only making GPUs.

Are you that dense? There's a problem with your rig and the only argument you can make is "it's someone else's fault". Get a grip and stop slaving to brands.

It's horrendous optimization yet other people running the game on the GTX 670, including myself can run it just fine. Did anyone here ever say top of the line hardware can run everything with problems? Nope.
That's funny, I have yet to run into a game I cannot play because I research what does and doesn't work with each other. The last time I had a rig that couldn't run certain games was 6-7 years ago. And it was an AMD/Nvidia configuration.
The problem is something on YOUR end, and I bet it's your CPU conflicting with your GPU.

It's probably the fact you're using an AMD CPU and a Nvidia GPU, they just don't play nice for some games.

I've seriously encountered a guy who thinks GTA IV doesn't have optimization problems. I'm tempted to make a reddit account and show you to the world.
Because with only two companies independent developers will be looking to get the winning hand? Nvidia is already doing their Project Shield deal so obviously they aren't just GPUs.
Well I meant by a desktop standpoint, when it comes to mobile there's a ton of cpu manufacturers but nvidia seems to take the top place there.
I've seriously encountered a guy who thinks GTA IV doesn't have optimization problems. I'm tempted to make a reddit account and show you to the world.
Why are you putting words in his mouth? Nobody here said GTA IV doesn't have optimization issues.
