It's horrendous optimization yet other people running the game on the GTX 670, including myself can run it just fine. Did anyone here ever say top of the line hardware can run everything with problems? Nope. That's funny, I have yet to run into a game I cannot play because I research what does and doesn't work with each other. The last time I had a rig that couldn't run certain games was 6-7 years ago. And it was an AMD/Nvidia configuration. The problem is something on YOUR end, and I bet it's your CPU conflicting with your GPU.
''Did anyone here ever say top of the line hardware can run everything with problems? Nope.'' uuh, the guy I originally responded to said that, yes. I'm glad you have the time to play literally every game that comes out so you would know that there's absolutely nothing you can't run. [editline]19th February 2013[/editline]
Why are you putting words in his mouth? Nobody here said GTA IV doesn't have optimization issues.
he's bitching at me for ''blaming'' rockstar. well, yeah, I'm blaming them for something they did wrong. that's how it works.
And to think this will just be a piece a junk metal in 10 years time.
Why are you putting words in his mouth? Nobody here said GTA IV doesn't have optimization issues.
Only heard that it does have optimization issues so far. Which, of course, it does.
And to think this will just be a piece a junk metal in 5-7 years time.
Oh it will, refer to my videos.
I've seriously encountered a guy who thinks GTA IV doesn't have optimization problems. I'm tempted to make a reddit account and show you to the world.
You've got an unusual hardware setup, so it's not surprising you'll run into things that aren't optimised for a minority of users.
Hey burhmis I still want to know more about your gta 4 copy, did you buy physically/digitally or did you pirate it? Oh and I would advise you to update it to the newest version 1.0.7.0 or whatever.
You've got an unusual hardware setup, so it's not surprising you'll run into things that aren't optimised for a minority of users.
when I had my 5770 and phenom 9850 I had almost exactly the same performance.
'he's bitching at me for ''blaming'' rockstar. well, yeah, I'm blaming them for something they did wrong. that's how it works.
You're blaming Rockstar for performance issues on a CPU that came out 3 years after the release of GTA IV? Perhaps you should take responsibility for the fact that you're mixing AMD/Nvidia and that causes problems sometimes.
when I had my 5770 and phenom 9850 I had almost exactly the same performance.
Well, all I can say then is update your drivers and the game.
You're blaming Rockstar for performance issues on a CPU that came out 3 years after the release of GTA IV? [editline]19th February 2013[/editline]
Well, all I can say then is update your drivers and the game.
doesn't make a difference. I probably have a total of 20 hours spent just trying to play the game on both rigs, trying different drivers, overclocking, tricking the game into scaling the reflections properly, using a custom D3D9.dll. any known fix for the game's performance, I tried it.
I've seriously encountered a guy who thinks GTA IV doesn't have optimization problems. I'm bitching at you blaming: a) The 670: 'that's good for you. a 670 can't' b) Rockstar: 'the problem is horrendous optimization' c) AMD: 'it COULD be the CPU' when none of them are at fault here. In the meantime you managed to smear shit on both Intel and AMD.
He's blaming rockstar on rockstars poor PC optimization. Please reread.
GTA IV's poor optimization hasn't been a problem for the majority of configurations years. Yes, the game had a large amount issues upon it's release on for a extent of time after that, nobody is going to argue that, especially the people using ATI/AMD. But The majoity of those issues have been fixed. That doesn't mean you blame Rockstar having issues on tech that didn't exist when Rockstar was still support the game with updates.
You're blaming Rockstar for performance issues on a CPU that came out 3 years after the release of GTA IV?
Rockstar did a shit port job across the board.
And I agree, but they turned it around at the end.
And in less than 5 years these will be considered outdated junk.
Idk the ultra 8800 gtx is still a pretty sweet card
And I agree, but they turned it around at the end.
they fixed it for SOME people. I don't think there's anything they could have done to fix everything, no matter how dedicated they were. they'd have to completely rewrite the entire codebase for the game to get it working on everyone's PCs. on the other hand, max payne 3 is probably the most masterfully optimized game I've ever played, so clearly they've learned from their mistakes.
Idk the ultra 8800 gtx is still a pretty sweet card
It gets wrecked by budget cards now though. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/521?vs=541 Just close the gap a bit an imagine it's an 8800 Ultra. That's a 550 Ti. [editline]19th February 2013[/editline]
And I agree, but they turned it around at the end.
Well no, not really. Some machines run it amazingly, some run it terribly. They helped, but it's still a crapshoot sometimes to play it on a machine right the game may not like the architecture of the GPU or CPU or both and run badly.
It gets wrecked by budget cards now though. http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/521?vs=541 Just close the gap a bit an imagine it's an 8800 Ultra. What they don't tell you is that when you purchase one, you get put on the potential serial arsonist list.
And I said that GTA IV is well optimized... Where exactly? I have the time and so far there hasn't been a single game that has strained my rig. ''In the meantime you managed to smear shit on both Intel and AMD.'' despite the fact that I said ABSOLUTELY NOTHING even vaguely negative about AMD. if that's ''smearing shit'' then I'd love to hear your reaction to what I think of you. Yo, I'm delta. I'm a pretty fancy guy. I somehow manage to have time to go up and down facepunch rating every comment I don't like dumb and also play every game ever created at the same time. I'm pretty good, 5 stars out of 5.
Idk the ultra 8800 gtx is still a pretty sweet card
I'm still using one, no point in upgrading other than because I might need a new space heater / move to the Antarctic.
Nope, if you're a framerate whore like me. You need to max the game and still be playing at 120fps stable. Anything less is unacceptable. Still, I'm not dropping nearly 1000€ on this. my gtx 590 is still hurting my wallet from last year.
Do you even have a 120hz monitor? Otherwise 120 fps sounds like screen tearing hell.
It may do "Fine" but it's not a pretty sweet card when you take into consideration all the noise and heat it produces. Ultra's look ugly in my opinion anyways, so when you can get almost a passively cooled 550 or something that beats it, that's not a pretty sweet thing I think. [editline]19th February 2013[/editline]
Do you even have a 120hz monitor? I think the higher the framerate the less obvious the tearing.

Yes - I never said it wasn't unoptimized and what you're wrong about is that you're blaming EVERYTHING and EVERYONE because you can't run GTA IV. QED, my quote.
I would honestly rather buy a dell than put an intel CPU in my rig. and I still have nightmares from when I used to have an ATI card. I am NEVER going back. when Nvidia starts making CPUs my life will be complete.
Ahem. I can see that you might not be under the realization that "ATI" cards are made by AMD. ATI doesn't exist anymore and hasn't for the past 3 or so years.
And I agree, but they turned it around at the end.
yo (yo delta)..... yo. (User was banned for this post ("Threadshitting" - Craptasket))
Again, what he meant was that the card is practically ancient by hardware standards and it still performs well. He was rebutting the guy who said that after 5 years all hardware is redundant. Yes, of course there are better and cheaper cards, but if you happen to be owning a 8800 right now, it's not all bad.
