"Super Congress" - Debt Ceiling Negotiators Aim To Create New Legislative Body of Government

And in other news, rioting continues on the streets of detroit...
Deus ex IS coming true, holy shit.
I never asked for this.
I've always wondered when the day would be that the measure that would kill democracy would be proposed. Turns out this was the day.
There really doesn't have to be any explanations as to why an accountability-less, un-elected, council of rich privileged individuals SHOULDN'T be given power to pass bills without the people's or senate's consent.
old men running the world, a new age
i feel that we should just rise up and kill off all of the old people and let young adults run society, you know?
HOLY SHIT GLABER MADE SENSE.
THE END IS NIGH!
No, there's no way he made sense, clearly this Super Congress is better than we though.
Did someone say "Emergency Powers?"

And we shall we crowned its kings.
No, better than kings... Old men!
what in the nine rings of hell full of fucks is this shit?
The Super Congress might as well just shit all over the Bill of Rights while they're at it, because creating this thing is like using the Constitution as toilet paper after a nice huge dump.
Durhur there was a crisis, accept our new stupid proposal.
If somehow this passes and the public just bends over and takes it, it might be time to find a new place to live. Europe sounds nice...
People need to realize that in a good government, it takes a very long time to make a big important decisions. Everyone should be heard and all aspects of a situation should be explored. Compromises should be made and progress will follow. Yes, there are times when immediate action needs to be taken. In that case, both parties should agree to a compromise or meet in the middle. From there, they can work out a new and better system.

I'd rather New Zealand, myself...
Give this a year, maybe not even that, and prepare for some crazy shit.
Like literally, shit will hit the fan.
State to state, city by city; people will be getting pissed off at what something called the "Super Congress" will be doing.
Not until they ban Dancing With The Stars, methinks...
FUCK YOU! D: I was all set and ready to announce that Super Congress is Palpatine, the Supreme Court is the Jedi Order and Obama is like, I don't know, Anakin or something.
You done stole my idea. :(
I'd rather New Zealand, myself...
I'd rather cave tunnels....
But, lolwatch "REPUBLICANS BUY OUT SUPER CONGRESS"
I'm glad other people take issue with this.
As I recall, the entire purpose of making Congress the most powerful branch of government was to disperse that power as much as possible. This idea pretty much does the opposite of that by giving half the legislative process to a very small group.
This also very bad because it could establish a precedent for further (worse) tampering with the structure of our government.
Because we need ANOTHER level of government with tons of power to waste shitloads of time debating bullshit. It's the obvious solution when a debt ceiling deal is just barely made quick enough to avoid default.
The fact that some politicians think we need a "Super Congress" in the first place just proves that Congress doesn't have the balls to get their hands dirty in the economy, agree to work together, or all around make steps towards actual bipartisan agreement.
I swear to God if this goes into effect that I will spend the rest of my life fighting this thing :|.
This shit makes me believe more in the philosophy that if the government doesn't adhere to the will of the people, the people have the right to abolish government and reinstate a new one.
Well I was wiping my ass and I noticed that there's something similar to that written in the Declaration of Independence...
how come they only have the power to cut spending,
wouldn't raising revenue be, gee i dont know, a good thing?
am I mistaken?
Seems like a band-aid solution, instead of fixing the problem, which is bickering old farts in congress.
Haha, I really hope this fucking stupid idea would never go through.
The Super Congress would basically just be a puppet of Corporations, just like current Congress except with unnecessary amounts of abuse of power and sacrificing our rights for Corporation interests.
I feel like the people who suggested this were out drinking heavily.
"DUDE. DUDE
I
DUDE
I HAVE THE BEST IDEA
DUDE
LETS MAKE A CONGRESS
BUT
OK DUDE
WE'LL CALL IT "SUPER CONGRESS"
"
Is it just me or is Super Congress a really dumb fucking name

As far as I know that's not actually what it's called.

You can only tax the people so much. The answer to running out of money should not be to demand more of the proletariat. Just like if parents have spending issues, they don't take their kids' allowances back to continue with the bad spending.

No one wants to tax the proletariat more, only the bourgeoisie.
No one wants to tax the proletariat more, only the bourgeoisie.
The uppermost classes already pay tremendous amounts of taxes, while a large portion of the proletarians pay no federal taxes at all. Even a tiny little tax on that group would generate a lot of revenue, but nobody wants to tax the little man.
I have to agree with Ridge. Increased revenue is a start, but spending really needs to be reigned in before the debt/deficit can really be affected.
