confirmation bias for every watergate you have a hundred "jews did 9/11 and shot jfk with chemtrails"
so because some conspiracy theories are untrue, all conspiracies don't exist
I'm actually really interested in seeing if this has any positive or negative effects on society at-large in Washington, sort of like a big experiment to see how wrong (or right) people who espouse how Marijuana is a social malaise are (or pot proponents, for that matter, the butthurt from either side will be glorious to see once the figures start coming in a year or two from now.)
Just wondering, how many smokers are in here? or least reading this? rate it as informative or something.
im sorry i thought we were living in a world were yellow journalism, cointelpro, watergate, mkultra, and operation mockingbird actually existed
conspiracy theories require a great deal of specific and individual evidence for the context, you cant prove one by justifying the proof of another.
Just wondering, how many smokers are in here? or least reading this? rate it as informative or something.
what are you doing
no they aren't as in, by mathematical necessity, they're unlikely by default
Isn't that a bit too much of a generalization? "Hey all these other conspiracies are batshit insane and wrong, this one must be too by association!"
so because some conspiracy theories are untrue, all conspiracies don't exist
are you really this stupid? I'm saying that conspiracies are unlikely.
Just wondering, how many smokers are in here? or least reading this? rate it as informative or something.
What, so you can call that list of people losers? Have a box.
Just wondering, how many smokers are in here? or least reading this? rate it as informative or something.
We get it, you don't want to smoke. Fine. So don't smoke and let people do what they want with their bodies.
Just wondering, how many smokers are in here? or least reading this? rate it as informative or something.
A lot more than your biased little mind can imagine.
are you really this stupid? I'm saying that conspiracies are unlikely.
yea that doesn't mean that a lot of them aren't true. you're basically shoving anyone who believes that yellow journalism played a part in the criminalization of marijuana in with 9/11 conspiracy theorists by association
yea that doesn't mean that a lot of them aren't true. you're basically shoving anyone who believes that yellow journalism played a part in the criminalization of marijuana in with 9/11 conspiracy theorists by association
a claim without any supporting evidence is unlikely
so because some conspiracy theories are untrue, all conspiracies don't exist
I don't think he's saying that. He's simply pointing out that you saying, "Often times they [Conspiracy Theories] are true" is kind of silly because of the amount of unconfirmed theories out there. Basically, just because a handful are true doesn't mean you should invest into all of them without concrete proof. The problem with conspiracy theories is that often times they just draw points on half-truths and you can interpret them in a multitude of ways; whereas criminal cases such as Watergate can be confirmed true because of the physical evidence.
I don't really see anything to lose from legalizing marijuana. People are going to smoke up no matter what, weed is easy to get and this way the government is getting some money out of it. Plus it's going to save money in terms of administration so police officers can go after real criminals.
I see Washington is putting itself forward on the path to destroying America.
It didn't have to end like this. ronpaul.jpg
What, so you can call that list of people losers? Have a box.
what made you point that out? Just because i said that sencence? It doesnt mean that i will call you as losers, i just wanted to know, is it really hard to tell? :\
and you say "people like to believe in conspiracies" as if no conspiracy has ever been true. you've done nothing to argue whether yellow journalism played any part in marijuana prohibition and instead tried to discredit it by saying that it's a conspiracy theory
what made you point that out? Just because i said that sencence? It doesnt mean that i will call you as losers, i just wanted to know, is it really hard to tell? :\

honestly, smoking is for losers.. i dont care who smokes marijuana or who doesnt, it just makes me sick of watching people smoke(not only weed) but tobacco too. Its just soo gross and stinky to be near the people who smoke :D. Just wanted to point it out.

smoking is for losers..

what made you point that out? Just because i said that sencence? It doesnt mean that i will call you as losers, i just wanted to know, is it really hard to tell? :\
"smoking is for losers" uh thats exactly what you are doing
so because some conspiracy theories are untrue, all conspiracies don't exist
The things you listed aren't conspiracy theories, they're actual conspiracies The term "conspiracy theory" has changed to "bug-nutty batshit crazy shit" in the last couple of years
I don't really see anything to lose from legalizing marijuana. People are going to smoke up no matter what, weed is easy to get and this way the government is getting some money out of it. Plus it's going to save money in terms of administration so police officers can go after real criminals.
Well now that it's legalized on a state level, we'll be able to see if we lose anything by legalization.
Isn't that a bit too much of a generalization? "Hey all these other conspiracies are batshit insane and wrong, this one must be too by association!"
no it isn't a generalization. conspiracy theories have very low prior probabilities because they generally require a) a cabal of either evil or at least sociopathic people, b) they are all able to keep the secret, c) they are all able to coordinate properly without infighting, d) the secret manages to get out anyway but is not noticed by the general public, only by a group of freethinkers that don't think like the rest of the "sheep" these are all gigantic penalties against the hypothesis because they are all violations of occam's razor. of course, very occasionally, one actually does slip through the cracks and you have your MKULTRA or whatever. but in most cases it's because people have over-active imaginations and like to ascribe agency to events which are really caused by either chance or sheer incompetence, plus you get the whole "galileo complex" where you're a lone hero railing against the corrupt system http://www.overcomingbias.com/2010/02/coordination-is-hard.html http://lesswrong.com/lw/cz7/conspiracy_theories_as_agency_fictions/ http://lesswrong.com/lw/jk/burdensome_details/
Why are you guys so susceptible just because I said it? (User was banned for this post ("Why reply" - MaxOfS2D))
Well now that it's legalized on a state level, we'll be able to see if we lose anything by legalization.
Thus begins the Great Dorito Shortage of 2012.
yea that doesn't mean that a lot of them aren't true. you're basically shoving anyone who believes that yellow journalism played a part in the criminalization of marijuana in with 9/11 conspiracy theorists by association
I'm not doing that by association. I'm saying that before I evaluate the evidence for any conspiracy theory, the prior probability I assign to it is going to be pretty fucking small because of the aforementioned reasons. If the evidence is actually enough to outweigh that, then fine, I'll change my mind. I don't know much about yellow journalism with regard to prohibition, so if you could link me to some quality discussions of the topic then that would be nice.
a claim without any supporting evidence is unlikely
you would need to assume that hearst had no say in the content of yellow journalism and no interest in his investments in the timber industry to assume, by default, that the opposition of cannabis by yellow journalism wasn't because of a profit motive by hearst. it's occam's razor, whatever requires the least amount of assumptions is more likely to be correct.
Im hoping to go to college in Washington in '14, I hope other states see logic and follow Washington and Colorado's example.
This is amazing and a huge step forward and all, but that "ONLY AN OUNCE LOL" thing really urks me. What difference does it make if you have a pound or an ounce or a joint? An ounce is no more dangerous than any other amount.
Can't sell that effectively if you only have an ounce at a time. Keep in mind they haven't made trade legal yet, only possession and use, and when they do, it's going to be heavily regulated, so possession of over an ounce will probably still be illegal without license.
Why are you guys so susceptible just because I said it?
Why are you even curious about who smokes on FP to begin with?

[editline]6th December 2012[/editline]
Can't sell that effectively if you only have an ounce at a time. A typical street dealer doesn't carry more than a couple of grams anyway.
I dont know how I feel about it. On one hand yeah, weed isn't that bad for people. But on the other hand theres nothing I find more annoying than a pothead.
