Congratulations Washington, taxing the rich to pay for the poor?

Yeah you are right, lets tax the poor who have no money and pay for health care.

We already do that with lotteries, alcohol and cigarette taxes.
I'm sorry, why is it the rich's job to take care of the poor?
"Uh, don't you know that everybody has to care about everybody else"
No...?

Without the poor, there would be no rich.

minus the fact that the overwhelming majority of the upper class gets there by screwing over the poor
REGARDLESS of this fact people have to suck it the fuck up and realize that everyone is going to have to pay out the ass in taxes otherwise we will never pay off the national debt (that includes the poor)
What I also find hilarious is that people seem to think that the people running around with two houses, four cars, a boat, and a beach house are the middle class
they're not
Without the poor, there would be no rich.
So? A cog doesn't deserve recognition just for being part of the machine.
So? A cog doesn't deserve recognition just for being part of the machine.
Um, the poor are more then a cog. They're the legs of a chair that rich people sit on.
Although, I would like to tack onto my statement that the government was made to ensure the well being of all it's people, so it's not necessarily a punishment of the rich, but tapping into the countries wealth to ensure the well being of it's not so wealthy people.
However, just like security/freedom, equality/competition is a balance.
I just think taxing the rich more than everyone else is a little out of balance.
Um, the poor are more then a cog. They're the legs of a chair that rich people sit on.
They are still just parts of the system, they don't "deserve" anything. Same goes for the rich; my point is that no one really deserves anything, beyond what the government is obligated to do, which of course is up to opinion.
Government, if it ever was established in the US to do that, has evidently lost that role and more or less plays as the practical puppet of business interests.
I have little pity for the rich persons who must pay out of their pocket, which, by the way, is only full because of the labor of the poor, for a working person's healthcare so that working person won't get wrongly treated by a greedy health insurance company or money-prioritized private hospital.
I fully support a creation of a program that allows these people to attend a hospital or obtain insurance that is funded by the society everyone lives in, and relies on, a program that is focused on servicing the people who fund them, not focused on obtaining profit.
Without the poor, there would be no rich.
And?
That's just societal homeostasis. To equalize everyone is to bring that balance to its knees and with it a global economy.
If you want to help the poor, tax them less. Don't tax the rich more while all the while still taxing the shit out of the poor on a moral basis.
Um, I have yet to mention anything about equality Lankist. Why are libertarians so focused on painting people as evil socialists?
If I recall, we're discussing national health care, not bringing about an egalitarianism system. Take your drabble elsewhere.
And we're paying for national health care in part by raising the Sin Taxes.
That's just taking money from the poor and giving it to everyone.
What the hell are you talking about?
well I think poor people not dying of preventable diseases is a little more important than a rich person's second vacation home
This.

I haven't painted you as anything.
ITT: Regressive thinking
Poor people of the world unite!
What the hell are you talking about?
The fact that we raised taxes on Cigarettes and Alcohol and are diverting funds from shit like lottery profits into the medical program.
[editline]03:37PM[/editline]
Which class do you think that revenue will come from?
I haven't painted you as anything.
When was the last time we talked politics? If I remember, that was a while ago and you seemed quite apathetic to the whole thing.

There is no one class that's paying for anything. In a national health care system, everyone who pays taxes pays for the continued service of easily accessible and reliable health care. The key word this is national

Well you said libertarians like to paint people as evil socialists.
I haven't painted you as evil at all dear.

You're ignoring the point.
We raised taxes on the poor, depressed and desperate.
Maybe if we didn't tax five bucks on a 1.50 pack of cigarettes people would have more money to go to the doctor.
Maybe if we knocked it off with the MEGAMILLIONS TAKE YOUR CHANCE shit people would have more money to invest elsewhere.
Maybe if states that are full of shit stopped making the only way to get liquor through State-run facilities designed for profit, people wouldn't be sent to the poorhouse because of a legal addiction.

Okay, maybe I should have said libertarians active in politics and pushing their agenda. I doubt many minimalists would really like anything that means the government taking responsibility. I think I can count on them calling it socialist, since socialism = big gubmint

Am I the government now? I was making a case for national healthcare, and part of that was arguing against these moralistic arguments about the rich, not what one government is doing to attain it.
lankist wants his cigs
I can afford to pay 6 bucks a pack.
Problem is, the vast majority of smokers can't, but do regardless. I know if I had to pick between a carton and going to get antibiotics for what I think is just a bad cough, I'd pick a carton.

Socialism doesn't have to be big government. In fact, Libertarian Socialism is an actual ideology.

Well considering modern government has become the most fuckupidest iteration of government thus far, I don't exactly trust my friendly neighborhood politicians to know what's best for my health.
[editline]03:45PM[/editline]
When they aren't fucking people in South America that is.
[editline]03:45PM[/editline]
Literally, not figuratively.
They can't even handle their simple role in "Let the civilians handle everything" form of economy, how the balls would these people be able to micro-manage everything that is necessity?

when is government not terrible?
like i know it's a necessary part of modern life, but when has it not totally sucked

Well Hitler knew how to make an economic superpower.
That's about the last form of nationalist government I can think of that had a scrap of competence.
Sure they were massive human rights violators but they knew how to run shit. i.e. shoot people who don't like you.
