Nobody needs extra help.
here is the crux of the issue Following lankist's train of logic, because he was able to succeed all on his own, that means everyone else in the entire world, regardless of their starting conditions, physical and mental health, and any other variable factors, can succeed as well.
If you'd prefer to make personal attacks you can send me a PM I can post in Fats Threads later mocking you.
Fats Threads? Wut :rimshot:
No, I didn't.
Yeah, you did. If you got help maybe you wouldn't be so angry all the time, maybe you'd still have empathy, maybe you'd actually be just one fucking iota more human. You had to fight your way to where you are, and because of that now that you're somewhere you just keep fucking fighting, all the time.

Would you like to pick up where you left off, proclaiming that there are individuals who are below you?
Thanks for that, Freud.
Don't be such a pussy.
Don't be such a pussy.
You're 19, I apologize if I don't trust your psychological assessment. [editline]12:31AM[/editline] Given you don't even know how to fully assess your own dick yet.

Lankist, if success if based entirely on work, why aren't you the richest person in the world? According to your logic, there should be nothing stopping you from being the richest person in the world except a little bit of elbow grease. Hell, if success based entirely on how hard you work, why shouldn't we have a fascist commie totalitarian government? Obviously, anyone who is not able to make it under the government just wasn't working hard enough, since, to reiterate, how well you do is based entirely on how hard you work and how smart you are. The only reason you could think that a fascist government is bad is if, gasp, it's possible that people can be kept from being successful by forces that are out of their control. But you don't seem to believe that is possible.
Because people are perfectly capable of championing themselves. Your sympathy is misplaced and unneeded. Stop worrying about everyone else and mind your own affairs. [editline]12:25AM[/editline] No, I didn't.
You seem to be basing your claims around your belief that anyone can rise out of poverty if they just work hard. I really don't think that's the case. Some people can't do much about it because of situational circumstances that keep them in poverty.

He doesn't care if people can work their way out of whatever situation they're in. He'll just say you're insulting them.
Yes. Would you like to pick up where you left off, proclaiming that there are individuals who are below you?
again you try to turn me into a randian villain. "I don't actually care about people, no one does, emotions like empathy are just made up excuses for me to feel superiority over people. The entire field of humanist and humanitarian thought, throughout all of human history, in all of it's incarnations; Kant, Camus, Thoreau, Voltaire, every last tiny bit of it is just a way to feel superior, and is not motivated by some innate facet of human nature to feel bad when those around you are in pain." is that what you wanted to hear?
My father just told me that he's filing for bankruptcy, and that he'll have to move into a low-rent apartment for several years and take up a third job because the government wouldn't bail us out of a situation that many people would say they should have. We started dirt poor, worked ourselves into a wealthy, comfortable lifestyle, and then were thrown right back into the gutter. We both still oppose laws of this nature. We don't want money at the expensive of anybody else. Becoming poor did not magically drain us of our ability to earn the lifestyle we want. When dad's built up his wallet again, he sure as shit shouldn't have to pay for those who were too lazy or incompetent to do so for themselves.
You're dodging.
Yes and people should trust what medical advice Facepunch Docters have to say as well. Your claim to prowess in the field of psychology is hilarious. [editline]12:38AM[/editline]
again you try to turn me into a randian villain. I didn't even know who she was until about a year ago when people kept claiming I was a "Randite" Are you going to provide a legitimate response or just parade around like you're a God among Men.
Yes and people should trust what medical advice Facepunch Docters have to say as well. Your claim to prowess in the field of psychology is hilarious.
I never claimed any such thing. I'm simply telling you what you're telling us.
I never claimed any such thing. I'm simply telling you what you're telling us.
I don't recall accusing you of being inhuman on the basis that I perceive you as angry through my computer monitor. [editline]12:40AM[/editline] FYI you can get prosecuted for giving out unlicensed psychological advice to an unstable individual likely to act on it.
FYI I've never read a page of Ayn Rand and don't particularly intend to. I didn't even know who she was until about a year ago when people kept claiming I was a "Randite"
Well you're certainly doing a damn good impression of one. She used that exact same "compassion is just an excuse to feel like you're needed and a hero" argument all the time.
Are you going to provide a legitimate response or just parade around like you're a God among Men.
:ironicat:

She used that exact same "compassion is just an excuse to feel like you're needed and a hero" argument all the time. :ironicat:
I've never once claimed compassion is nonexistent. I'm saying YOU in particular are incompassionate. [editline]12:41AM[/editline] In my eyes, compassion is treating other human beings as equals.
I don't recall accusing you of being inhuman on the basis that I perceive you as angry through my computer monitor. [editline]12:40AM[/editline] FYI you can get prosecuted for giving out unlicensed psychological advice to an unstable individual likely to act on it.
You're inhuman because you don't believe anyone else is human. If you'd stop being such a hard ass and calm the fuck down and maybe find someone you could trust I'm sure you'd be just swell.
In my eyes, compassion is treating other human beings as equals.
Yes and I consider not looking down on them when the world gives them the short end of the stick a good sign of compassion. [editline]10:44PM[/editline]
FYI you can get prosecuted for giving out unlicensed psychological advice to an unstable individual likely to act on it.
I seem to recall a certain someone telling me I suffered from a "severe detachment from reality" after reading my posts on a forum about a halflife 2 mod.
You're inhuman because you don't believe anyone else is human.
Yes I do.
If you'd stop being such a hard ass and calm the fuck down and maybe find someone you could trust I'm sure you'd be just swell.
Let's assume I'm as unstable and borderline suicidal as you presume. You do realize that if you intentionally drive me to act on those impulses you can be brought up on indirect homicide charges, right?
I've never once claimed compassion is nonexistent. I'm saying YOU in particular are incompassionate. [editline]12:41AM[/editline] In my eyes, compassion is treating other human beings as equals.
But you don't. You don't see other people as equals, which is obvious seeing as how that's never what you talk about. All you do is use that idea as another way to belittle others.
Yes I do.
No you don't, because if you did, you would understand that humans are fallible, mistake prone, emotional beings who cannot be expected to be a perfect ubermensch like yourself 24/7
Yes and I consider not looking down on them when the world gives them the short end of the stick a good sign of compassion.
Since when does "equal" equate to "look down upon?" I expect the same sort of effort out of others that I do out of myself. That isn't looking down at all, that's looking across.
I seem to recall a certain someone telling me I suffered from a "severe detachment from reality" after reading my posts on a forum about a halflife 2 mod.
Yes, but I didn't give you psychological advice. That would not be my place as a layman. [editline]12:46AM[/editline]
No you don't, because if you did, you would understand that humans are fallible, mistake prone, emotional beings who cannot be expected to be a perfect ubermensch like yourself 24/7
I'm not a perfect individual. You seem to have a great many misconceptions about my philosophical definition of humanity. I consider myself a particularly unremarkable individual, hence I expect the same sort of capabilities from everyone else.
