Internet is serious business
Why so serious?
Yes.
Do tell me why I am wrong and how you know me better than I know me.
I can't really tell you who you are, if you think you're calm and satisfied then I can't really disagree. All I can tell you is what you tell me.

You know, it'd be easier to trust you if you didn't pussy out of everything.
And given opportunity is something I did not have, in my mind it is a complete non issue.
Obviously you had some sort of opportunity if you landed a good job.
What you infer is your problem. Why is it when I say "I'm not special" your only response is "you're self absorbed?"
Actually that is my bad, I read you wrong. I thought you said "remarkable" when you said "unremarkable". I still consider you self-absorbed, however, but since I misread that maybe we should just leave that be.
Opportunity has nothing to do with it. If you have an opportunity handed to you, great for you. If you don't, stop bitching and moaning and forge your own opportunity.
Some people CAN'T forge their own opportunity because that's not the way the world works. Not everyone can start their own business or rise to the top all on their own, some people have nothing to grab onto to lift them out of the shitter.
Because they are less lazy than I am and have had more time to establish themselves.
Hm, more time to establish themselves... what could that... be a result of...
It couldn't have anything to do with the specific chain of events that became their life, could it?
You know, it'd be easier to trust you if you didn't pussy out of everything.
I can't help it, your riveting analyses of my true inner self is sometimes frighteningly accurate.
Obviously you had some sort of opportunity if you landed a good job.
No. That's insulting. I got my job because I worked for it, not because of karmic fate bullshit.

I don't accept the word "can't" in terms of human work ethic. The moment you say "I can't" is a concession to defeat. People who say they can't are useless, dead weight who don't deserve help. If you're going to help anyone, help people who haven't given up, not the useless fucks who will just sit around and take handouts.

Being three times my age?
It couldn't have anything to do with the specific chain of events that became their life, could it?
Possibly the part of the chain where it starts decades before my chain did.
No, but you see, I'm not talking about fate, I'm talking about circumstance. Somehow you ended up where you are and how you are only because of the way you were brought up, and because those specific things were available to you if you worked hard enough for them. Not everything is available to everyone, not even if they work for it. Society can fuck people over, and that's the way life is.

I'm not talking about people who just give up, I'm just saying sometimes they aren't even allowed the opening to present their skills or motivation to work hard.

No, we were talking about people the same age as you with better jobs, remember?

Thanks for the input, credible psychological expert who knows all the details of my personal life.

What the fuck are you talking about. Nobody fucking disallows people to work. Be a waiter or something and pay your way through community college.

Better work ethic.
Thanks for the input, credible psychological expert who knows all the details of my personal life.
I'm not claiming to know who you are, I'm simply saying that opportunity plays a role in your life.
What, okay, I'm not saying it's impossible for someone to do that, I'm saying that there's a difference between having to pay your way through community college and being born in a rich family where your parents pay to get you into the best college possible earlier in life.
Better work ethic.
Or better turn of events.
I'm not claiming to know who you are, I'm simply saying that opportunity plays a role in your life.
You don't know what opportunities I did and did not have. How the fuck do you know?

Who cares? It doesn't matter if you're born into a rich family or born into a poor one, the capability to work for yourself and educate yourself is still there, and there's no excuse not to utilize it.
Or better turn of events.
Maybe thinking that makes you feel better when there's someone who is more successful than you, but that doesn't exactly help your situation now does it? Personally, people I don't like who are more successful than me are just more motivation to keep going up the ladder.
I hope when I'm 27 I have better things to do than sit on an internet forum arguing with teenagers :ohdear:

I like that argument.
As though your age somehow negates you being a nerd as well.
what argument
I haven't said anything this whole thread till just now
I think socialized health-care for everyone is a bad idea look at Canada and why they come south of the boarder for surgery's and medical care that is needed to save there lives. Having to wait for a surgery for 8 months while you have a brain tumor sounds exciting.
FYI there are only waiting lists for non-life-threatening things
if you're about to die from a brain tumor here you're going to get the attention you need immediately

Argument as in assertion.
but argument and assertion aren't even similar
except they both start with 'a'
but argument and assertion aren't even similar
Yes they are.
no they aren't
yes they are

Okay, you know what, let's backtrack a little. Let's remember for a moment that what we're arguing about is social healthcare. You're currently arguing that anyone can eventually build themselves a fortune from working hard. They can work themselves out of poverty, this is what you're saying? So, okay. Fine. But what happens if they get sick before they're sitting on a pile of money?
No they aren't

They go into debt or die. Shit happens. Their health isn't my problem.
[editline]01:58AM[/editline]
No they aren't
I will shank you
please don't D:
oh what a typically lankist post
you'll spend weeks on end arguing your point but when your own verbal diarrhea overrides the point you were trying to make,
"their problem not mine"
All right, shit happens. That's all I needed to hear out of you, really. That's all I've been trying to prove this entire time.
All I want to know is: what qualifies as rich and does this mean politician's themselves will be taxed as well?
All right, shit happens. That's all I needed to hear out of you, really. That's all I've been trying to prove this entire time.
No, don't puss out and act all superior. Explain your point for the class.
All I want to know is: what qualifies as rich and does this mean politician's themselves will be taxed as well?
Rich = "More money than me."
The politicians will not be heavily taxed because they will be conveniently below the "rich" line.
Taxation is based on yearly income rather than net worth. If your household makes 200 grand a year it doesn't matter if you already have fifty billion in the bank.
Well, for the most part anyway.
No, don't puss out and act all superior. Explain your point for the class.
People live under different circumstances, and not everyone has the money to be treated for life-threatening disease. Some people can, some people cannot.
I'd love to sit here and debate with you Lankist, but I'm going to go kill zombies alongside my pal Kalibos now.

And?
[editline]02:05AM[/editline]
That's more of a universal statement of fact.
[editline]02:05AM[/editline]
If you didn't realize that already I don't know what to say to you.
As you probably know, assuming you live in the UK, the British health care system no longer provides treatments for stage 4 cancers as it has a 10-15% of surviving.
what the shit
A. the chance of survival relies on organs affected, not all stage four cancers have a low chance of survival, nor even danger.
B. that's a crock of shit, prove it
Is Lankist seriously still going?
