House Democrats look at taxing the rich for health care
Exactly. It isn't definite. Morality is based in unsteady and unstable foundations.
Rights and law on the other hand are rooted in rational and logical necessity, the most stable foundation possible.
I don't think so. Laws and Morals serve the same purpose, to regulate stuff. And they have the same roots.
Morality is manmade, not directly, more in a social convention, but nevertheless, morals are manmade.
So are Laws. They corelate. Obviously, social morality mirrors the more or less current status of what society thinks is wrong and right. It is wrong to kill people, it is wrong to take money from other people etc.
That's great. I don't. There seems to be an inconsistency here. Could it be that's the entire fucking reason morality has no place in legislation?

If you want everything decided for you, move to China.
In China I have no hand in the decisions. Here it's democracy, most of the time anyway.
And Lankist, everything is subjective. Even logic(to a point). There's always an inconsistency.
democrats are going to ruin this country
Too bad the Republicans did it first
No, actually, slavery was abolished for international rights violations, not morality. See, that's how morality takes root. Credit is given for shit it isn't responsible for.
Necessity is not fluid. Rights are a construct to ensure individualism, personal choice and liberty. They are only made when that choice is threatened.
Pop quiz: Who here actually owns legal manuscripts?
Your illness made you a very angry little man. I hope your treatment goes well.

You don't got shit about the libertarians though, try and insult me.... I DARE YOU.
I don't think so. Laws and Morals serve the same purpose,.
No they don't. That's just fucking stupid. Morality is a construct in which one can justify their own questionable actions. Law is a construct in which individuals can be protected while still being free of a tax-funded leash.
You don't got shit about the libertarians though, try and insult me.... I DARE YOU.
we didn't and can't do shit anyway
we didn't and can't do shit anyway
Exactly.
And Lankist, everything is subjective. Even logic(to a point). There's always an inconsistency.
No, see, that's also bullshit. You're rationalizing.
And democracy isn't the fucking cornerstone of this government. The Constitution and its emphasis on individual choice and responsibility is.
The rich do not, based solely on the fact that they are rich, have an obligation to help the poor.
The Earth is a finite resource. It should not simply belong to those who have the capacity to take it.
Your illness made you a very angry little man. I hope your treatment goes well.
Great substitute for legitimate argument. Personal attacks.
How's that whole morality thing working for you with the whole, you know, insulting a victim of domestic abuse thing?
No they don't. That's just fucking stupid. Morality is a construct in which one can justify their own questionable actions. Law is a construct in which individuals can be protected while still being free of a tax-funded leash.
Law is used to justify ones actions to. "Justify" <-> Justice

And your bullshit connections warrant a candid, baffled and amused reaction. "Candid" <-> Candy
Your argument is being sold to minors.

You're being a condescending prick trying to use my personal life, which has absolutely no relation to this argument, to justify dodging the issue and belittling my world view.
Again, how's the whole morality thing working for you
I just read through this entire thread and if you want health care, you can get a job with those benefits. I don't want some "universal healthcare plan" provided by the government because it would be shitty. Look at Canada, yeah it's totally great up there, especially when their citizens have to sneak down to the United States to get some decent hospital care.
If you ask me, it seems as though you're using it as a way to feel better about yourself, rather than legitimately helping the world.

uh yeah that doesn't really happen often at all
the people who come to the U.S. are rich people who want more luxurious care over the basic offered in canada
btw i live in canada and have had nothing but good experiences with the health care system

I know people first hand that had to go down to Oregon. Don't say I'm wrong.
well I think poor people not dying of preventable diseases is a little more important than a rich person's second vacation home
And what an appeal to emotion your statement is. Don't get the idea that people have some sort of obligation to each other, just because of what you feel.
I know people first hand that had to go down to Oregon. Don't say I'm wrong.
i don't give a shit about your opinion or your sites because i've used the healthcare system first-hand repeatedly
i can give you a ton of examples of americans going to other countries for surgeries because of prohibitively expensive surgeries or insurance loopholes. guess why? every system has flaws, the difference is i'm not completely ignorant about the system i'm judging.

And I and a vast majority of people don't give a fuck.
It seems we have reached an impasse. So, it's either violate a vast majority of people's ability to choose or save your anecdotes.
What's wrong with taxing the rich? The wealth they hold was ultimately created by the poorer sections of the population anyway.
The rich live in a society where they are provided for by other people, like anyone else. Why shouldn't they cover their medical costs?
Okay there Jim Taggart.

And I don't give a shit about some douchebag named "Chippay" on Facepunch trying to prove me wrong.
